  1. I have this pain too, usually in the morning but not only then. I think I got it figured out that it happens if I eat too fast and maybe don't chew enough. I know it isn't that I am eating too much becuase it often happens on the first few bites. Once I had it throughout the entire meal and like a fool, I kept eating and can you guess what happened? Yep, that's right, I puked.

  2. Lots of experience is good. Mine was done at CentraState in Freehold and I was the second person he did (the first person was an hour before me!). That was ok, i wasn't worried about the surgery. I have come to see that other aspects require experience like the fills, the insurence area, even the diet. I have found that they give different information to different patients and they are not really organized. O well, live and learn.

  3. I had my fill done today. It was like a circus in the fluroscopy room. There were two x-ray techs, the radiologist, my surgeon, his associate, and the nurse coordinator for the bariatric program. They were quite impressed that my port was so near the surface. The doc put in one cc, watched me swallow the barium, and everyone started to mumble (apparently they saw no change). The surgeon said "well i don't want to put in another cc" and I said "please do, my insurence doesn't pay for this!". He hesitated but did give me another cc. Again they looked under floroscopy and all mumbled again. This time the surgeon said "well, you can't tell until she eats solids". So I figure that I will not have much restriction with these two ccs!

  4. I have been banded since 6/8/05, my first fill is scheduled in 5 days. I have had no problems at all since banding. I have slowly introduced "problem" food like bread, Peanut Butter, and corn on the cob all with success. Twice this week I had chinese food (different items each time) and both times I had horrible heartburn. I have had chinese food before this with no problem. I have been craving chinese food since being banded because I ate alot of wonton Soup while i was on liquids for 6 weeks (my dogs got the wontons). Now, all of a sudden, I have this heartburn.

So, my question is, what food gives you heartburn?

  5. My first fill is in a few days and it will be done with the surgeon and the radiologist down in the x-ray dept. Is this common practice? My doctor is very conservative and I was only the second person he did the lap band procedure on. My only reason for concern is that the insurence company won't cover it because I have to use a certain company for all radiological procedures!

  6. My doctor put me on soft foods last Thursday. Starting about that Sunday I have had intestinal cramps and have had to run to the bathroom. Since Friday that just past I have had full fledged diareha (how the heck do you spell that). I called the doctor on friday and he said that it was just a virus. My concern is that the pains started only a day or two after being put on soft foods. I asked the doctor if i should go back on liquids and he said no. Am I eating foods that are too spicy? I was on liquids for 6 weeks, could that have something to do with it? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

  7. My doctor's philosophy is similar to yours. I was on full liquids for the first 6 weeks and I only cheated a few times (around week 5). I have been cheating on the soft diet because the nutritionist said that soft is anything that totally breaks up in your mouth so that is what I am eating. My doctor does believe in getting a fill as soon as you stop losing weight so he is going to schedule me sometime next week which would put me at about 2 months out.

  8. Wow, you waste no time! I stayed overnight in the hospital and was out of work for 6 weeks! I'll admit that I didn't need 6 weeks but the doctor gave it, and it was summer. I also had little appetite the first week. I was banded on a Wednesday and didn't get really hungry until about the next Monday. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

  9. I'm glad I read this thread. I am finally on real foods (as opposed to full liquids) and not yet filled. I am having trouble finding high Protein foods for breakfast other than eggs. Unlike most of you, I am hungry in the morning and find that if I eat a fairly large breakfast than I am not so hungry later in the day. Anyone have more suggestions for high protein breakfast foods - I don't like hot cereals. Thanks
