nauseous all the time
Pelicanlady replied to new start2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just tried some mashed potato and I was able to eat about 2 tbls. It was the powdered potato that comes in the little cups. I made it as directed, then took 2 tbls out and put it in a small bowl. I added about 2 tsp of unflavored Protein powder and 2 tbls skim milk. It is more like a Soup, but tiny tummy likes it. I only ate about 1 tbls so far, but tummy says she is full. I hope I can keep this down. -
nauseous all the time
Pelicanlady replied to new start2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery the 8th and my nausea started around the 10th. The nausea meds my doctor gave me are sweet and only make it worse. I keep trying to drink some Protein drink or protein Water but it just makes me sick. Today I have been able to tolerate ice chips. My hubby went and got me some G2 Gatorade lemon lime flavor and that seems to be helping. I was so afraid I would get dehydrated and end up in the hospital. I think once I get the nausea under control I can maybe start drinking protein again. I'm sorry everyone is going through this, but it is nice to know I'm not alone. Feel better soon. -
Need food suggestions!

I have the same problem. I had my hubby get me some low sodium cream of tomato Soup. I put a 1/4 cup in a small bowl with 1 TBLS of powdered skim milk in it with just a small bit of Water. Heated it up and it is taking me for ever to eat it. It is a little sweet, but nothing like the shakes. I might also try cream of chicken soup. Prior to surgery I loved Protein shakes. I am eating the soup very slow, like maybe 1/16 of a tsp at time. Got to make my tiny tummy happy. -
Protein shake taking for ever to drink
Pelicanlady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my surgery on Tuesday and today was my first day to drink my Protein. I started on my shake 4 hours ago and I still have 5 oz. left to drink. It is so hard to get down. I usually love the shakes, but this is such a chore. I drink a little bit of that and a small drink of Water to help it go down. Good thing I am getting 27 grams of protein from this. -
I am trying to drink the fruit punch one now. It was gross straight, so I mixed it into Water. Now it is water down it isn't too bad. Plus I am getting another 8 oz of water.

steri-strip gunk
Pelicanlady replied to sleevenewbie621's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad my surgeon didn't use that. He used dissolvable glue over my stitches. -
I stayed over night and I am glad I did. It took them 3 hours to get my pain under control. Would I have slept better at? Yes, but I like the fact that I had medical staff here if I needed. Plus, I have ally been able to get about 8 oz of water in me. They have me on a saline drip, 3rd bottle since surgery. I would check with your insurance company and see if they can authorize over night. Good luck and keep me posted.

Stuck between a rock and a hard place
Pelicanlady replied to Dkdebose's topic in Insurance & Financing
Welcome and sorry about your insurance. There are a lot of people here that have gone to Mexico that might be able to help you. I am lucky enough that my insurance does cover my surgery. Good luck to you and don't give up. -
My Endoscopy Day x....x
Pelicanlady replied to Tisa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been having problems with low Iron levels so my pcp sent me to a grasto doctor and he wanted the colonoscopy and EGD. I had them done Friday. Both tests only took about 45 minutes. They found some irritation in my esophagus and now I am waiting to see if it is an infection. I hope it isn't an infection since my surgery is July 8th. I really don't want any delays. Jessiquoi - having both done is nothing to worry about. I was asleep for them and before I knew it I was done. The worst part is the prep work for the colonoscopy. I was sloshing by the time I was done with the 4 liters. Good luck. -
Thank you everyone for your support and kind words. I know he loves me and will be there for me. I am happy that I have all the support from this forum. Goddardgo - I am in Green Valley, about 30 minutes south of Tucson. I think that puts you at least 3 hours north of us. Little far to travel, but can support each other via computer. Ohh, you are getting close, 3 weeks from tomorrow. Good luck and keep me posted. Lisa

Looking for July Sleevers!
Pelicanlady replied to fearnot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Goddardgo, I'm am in Green Valley, AZ and my surgery date is July 8th. You will be amazed how fast the next few weeks will go. I'm an old lady of 58 and would be happy to be your sleeve buddy. We are in the process of moving. We just sold our house and will be living in a rental house while they build our new house until this fall. Then we are moving to Las Vegas. -
Any July 14th sleevers? What tips do you have for me? :)
Pelicanlady replied to Rarmenta84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mistbizkit - My surgeon has the same requirement, no pre-op diet. He just wants me to eat light the night before. My surgery is July 8 and I plan on eating very light for the week before. Great tip someone had about asking the surgeon to get as much C02 out before closing. I am all for a little pain from gas as possible. Good luck everyone. female-58 -
nervous about psych eval
Pelicanlady replied to crazyfroglady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry about Monday, you'll do fine. Just answer the questions truthfully. My psych was great. She asked about my diet history, reasons why I think this will work, family history, and support system. She wanted to make sure that I knew just what I was getting into. I told her about all the research I had done and that I was on a bariatric support forum. I talked to her for about 45 mins and that was it. I didn't have to take any test, like some people on here have mentioned. Congrats on quitting smoking. That is something that is very hard, but shows you are wanting to change your health. Good luck. -
Just had mine this morning. I also had a colonoscopy done at the same time. I was having having anemia problems and my gastro doctor ordered both. My surgeon requires the EGD so instead of having it done twice in less than 2 weeks, he will accept my gastro's report. The EGD is nothing to worry about. You don't feel anything while they are doing it. When I woke up I had a little cough that was gone in less than an hour. They asked my tons of questions about my past medical history before hand. It only took about 45 mins for both tests.

I am having a colonoscopy and endoscopy this Friday to see why I am anemic. My gastro guy is thinking it might be celiac disease. Since I am having the endoscopy already, my surgeon said I don't need to do another. I just have to have my gastro doctor fax results to him. Since I have to have Clear liquids for the colonoscopy I figure I might as well stay on liquids until my surgery date of July 8. I stocked up on Protein shakes and and plain greek yogurt to cover my 2 weeks. Yikes! I just realized my new healthy life will start in just 2 short weeks.

Hi Weezy59 I understand, I'm nervous also. I have so many emotions running through my head. Some days I am so excited, other days I am scared. This is something I have wanted to over 15 years, but kept telling myself I could do it on my own. I am so ready for this. I am closing in on 60, and I want to be at a healthy weight and stay there. Keep thinking of the good that will come out of this surgery.

Optifast 2 week Pre-Op diet
Pelicanlady replied to nmccarthy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor just wants me to eat a light supper the night before. I think I want to jump start my weight loss and do liquids for the week before surgery. My surgery is July 8th so 4th of July will be some yummy chocolate shakes. I love Atkins shakes, so that makes it easier for me. Good luck everyone. -
Mine was very easy. She asked me questions about if I eat when I'm stressed, bored, angry, tired, or any other reasons besides hunger. She wanted to know about what kind of support I have. She wanted to make sure that I knew just what I am getting myself into and that I didn't think that this was going to be an easy way out, but that I had to do a lot of work. Some people have had to do a written test, but not me. We talked for about 30-45 mins and that was it. Just answer honestly and you should do fine.

Just took my pre-op pictures...gross
Pelicanlady replied to mi75's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to have my step-daughter take full pictures of me next week. She had VSG Juan 2013 and know just what I will be going through. She is going to be such a big help. I carry my weight all over, which makes it hard to find pants that fit my legs. If I get a big enough size for my legs, they are huge on my belly. I have a picture of my husband and I back in 1998 when I was at my highest weight. We posed with Minnie and Mickey. We are going to Disney World again this year and I plan on getting a new picture with Minnie and Mickey. -
Decided Overeaters Anonymous is necessary
Pelicanlady replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went to OA for just about 3 years and it really helped me work on my issues. I left because of the way the meetings were being run. People would make comments while people were talking and issues I had with a few of the ladies. The program is wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone that needs to work on food issues. Once I have my surgery I plan on re-reading all of my OA literature again to re-enforce what I learned. -
Kamp86, we have the same surgery date. Good luck.
