Anyone out there have to get an echocardiogram before cardiologist would give you clearance?
Pelicanlady replied to lose4life2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 58 and mine did the same thing. I have exercise induced asthma and they asked if I get winded when I walk. I told them if I am walking up hill yes, but catch my breath fast. Still had to have it done. Everything was fine and I am now almost 4 week post op. Hoping everything will go good with you. -
Just found out that even though my husband supports me getting my sleeve he doesn't agree with it. Makes me wonder if he really will support me. Argh! Good thing I have friends and my step-daughters full support.

Thanks Friejenn, He is doing much better with it. We went out for Breakfast this morning and I ordered 1 scrambled egg. Well, when our order came my 1 scrambled egg turned in to a 2 egg omelet. Before I could say anything my hubby was telling the waitress that wasn't what I ordered. I couldn't handle 2 egg, let alone an omelet. Please take it back and get her 1 scrambled egg. She just had stomach surgery and has to be very careful of what she puts in it. It was so nice to see him sticking up for me.

Great post. We are going to Disneyworld when I am 5 months out from surgery. I hope to be getting close to my goal. Glad they have good Proteins available. I might have a bite of my hubby's ice cream, once or twice.

Pelicanlady replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
So sorry for you loss Lisa. Please don't be too hard on yourself. You have been through so much in the past 7 months. You will get back on track. Know that the love of your life is watching over you. Keeping you in my prayers. -
It's amazing that such a tiny tummy can make such loud noises.

nausea still 6 days post op
Pelicanlady replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was also nauseous for the first week. The doctor had me on pain pills and anti nausea pills and I kept getting worse. I couldn't drink Water or the Protein shakes. I stopped the pain pills and anti nausea pills and tried eating a little bit of mashed potatoes watered down with skim milk. Once I started getting food in me and the pills out of my system I felt better. Everyone reacts different to surgery and pills. -
Use a heating pad on your left shoulder if you get gas pains there. Welcome home.

Happy Birthday, BariatricPal!
Pelicanlady replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you Alex for starting this website. It is so good to have one place to go to get all the support and information that we need. I have been on this site just about every day since I joined April 24, 2014. I love seeing everyone's success and it is nice to know that if I have a problem I can either search the subject or start a new topic. At least one person has had the same problem. -
Diet questions for pre-op and post-op
Pelicanlady replied to John.L's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi John, That's a tough question because everyone's tastes are so different. I bought Swanson chicken Stock, and lots of premixed Protein drinks. Before surgery I loved Atkins shakes and had one every morning for Breakfast. After surgery they turned my stomach and were way too sweet. Everything disagreed with me. I had a week of nausea and the only thing that agreed with me was watered down mashed potatoes. Even they weren't in the liquid stage, I made them so thin I could drink them. Some people like the protein powders that you mix into your broth. There is also a high protein Water called Isopure zero carb you can buy at GNC. I didn't like it because it was really sweet. Don't buy too much before surgery because your taste will change after surgery. V8 settled very good in my tummy. Good luck and sorry I didn't have too many ideas. -
My doctor didn't require it. The day before surgery I could eat light with no food after 6 pm and nothing by mouth after midnight.

I agree with everyone, if you are concerned call your doctor. I had the gas pains in my left shoulder for over a week. I found that using a heating pad helped.

Just had my sleeve
Pelicanlady replied to lovingdavid's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome lovingdavid. Chrisrn, I was sleeved 7/8 and still have pain. I take tylenol at night to sleep. Can't sleep on my side or laying down. Still sleeping propped up with 4 pillows. Lovingdavid, keep up with your fluids so you don't get dehydrated. Been there, done that. We are moving to Las Vegas this fall. -
I am having my sleeve on July 8th. I am so happy and have so much to take care of between then.

Nausea after surgery
Pelicanlady replied to *Lexie*'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use to love room temperature water, now it taste terrible. I found ice water isn't too bad. -
I love pelicans and an old boyfriend use to call me that. Not much imagination, but easy for me to remember.
-
Yup, I had the same thing. My surgery was 7/8 and it still is harder for me to swallow. I take baby sips, less than a tsp, and that seems to help. I belch and do what I call a hiccup burp. It does get better. I don't belch every time I swallow and the pain in my belly is less. I still have a problem with getting comfortable at night, but that is also getting better. I just wish the belly pain would just go away. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Nausea after surgery
Pelicanlady replied to *Lexie*'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days out and I knew from past surgeries that I would be nauseous so they gave me stuff in my IV and put a patch behind my ear. I was fine in the hospital, but once I got home and was taking the nausea pills they sent home with me I was so nauseous I couldn't eat or drink. The pills they gave me were this sweet cherry flavor and since surgery everything sweet turns my tiny tummy. I finally stopped them and the pain pills. Most of the nausea is gone, but when my hubby is cooking his dinner the smell turns my tummy. I hope your nausea goes away very soon. -
So sorry you are feeling so bad. Know that you are not alone. I was sleeved on the 8th and am struggling to get 8 oz. of Water in a day, everything sweet makes me sick, my eyes are blurry, have been spending days and nights in the recliner, fighting nausea and dehydration. I also have reflux and for the most part can't sleep. I am forcing myself everyday now to drink at least an ounce of water when I get up. After my shower I have another ounce and go for a short walk. I am really trying to get my Protein, but all the high protein stuff make me sick. I know this is going to get better for both of us. It is really hard when you read about most of the people not having any problems and there you sit in pain. I cry each night wishing I could just get a good nights sleep. Keep on chugging along and before you know it we will both be happy again.

Did you call your doctor? Why can't you eat or drink? Are you nauseous? Have you had any problems prior to this? Please call you doctor. Feel better soon and keep me posted.

Who really followed the post-op diet?
Pelicanlady replied to dawnnae123's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I tried to follow the post-op diet, but was unable to eat or drink anything due to nausea. By day 3 I was getting dehydrated and very weak do to lack of Protein. All the Protein drinks made me nauseous. I had to find something that would agree with me. I made some instant mashed potatoes then took 1 TBLS spoon and mixed it with 1 TBLS skim milk. Was is a clear liquid? No. Was it the consistency of clear liquid? Yes. Was I able to keep it down? Yes. Had I not done that, I know I would have ended up in the hospital. I was also able to mix 1 TBLS cottage cheese with 1 TBLS skim milk and do the same thing. I am 1 week out today and I feel so much better. The nausea is gone. Still struggling with finding what tiny tummy will be happy with. Today my doctor started me on soft foods, so I have more to choose from. At lunch I had to try 3 different things before tiny was happy. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. At least I wasn't trying to eat junk like chips. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow. -
