  1. I can say from only my personal experience that I wouldn't choose the lapband. I was a huge success and advocate of it.. Banded June 2008 beginning weight 305 was down to 170 (goal weight) in 9 months. Kept the weight off for almost 6 years then bam it eroded. No fault of mine, I followed all the band rules.. No bread, no rice , no pasta, no soda.. My doctor said most lapbands are failing after 5 years. Some have been lucky and a lot have not with it failing. A lot of physicians are not even doing them anymore because of this.. So from my personal experience I suggest not getting the lapband. I was a self pay and wish I had gone the tried and true route the first time around.. I am 8 weeks out from my revision and down 34 lbs (had to gain 50 to be eligible for the rny). Do some research on the percentage of revisions being done from band to sleeve and sleeve to rny and band to rny. It's shocking! Just my personal 2 cents..
  2. Hi ladies!! I was revised from band to bypass on May 21, 2014. 8 weeks later I am down 34 pounds. I have found it much easier with the bypass than the band. The weight is coming off slower this time though. Most likely because when I was banded I was 305 and when I was revised I was 245 ( had to gain 50 to be eligible to have the rny) recovery was so much easier this time. I did a bowel prep day before surgery so I wouldn't have to worry about BM after which always were an issue for me. I also walked a lot after surgery.. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask away!!

    Question on pain

Rny was by far the easiest surgery I have ever had and I was revised from band to bypass at same time.. Easier than 2 c-sections, hysterectomy, tummy tuck, thigh lift, boob job, lapband and an exploratory surgery. Rny I went home within 22 hours of surgery, only took pain meds for first 24 hours and was back to feeling almost normal within 36 hours. I walked an hour after waking in recovery and kept walking I think that was the key.. Oh that and I did a bowel prep day before surgery.. I read all the horror stories of not being able to have a bowel movement and I figured why go through that.
  4. I would suggest you read all the revision threads on here.. From band to sleeve from sleeve to rny.. If I had to do it again with the numbers you have I would not hesitate to go with rny. I'm 8 weeks from revision from band to rny and even though I had a low bmi of 35 I am down 32 pounds since surgery day. No complications.. Look on the forums and it could help you make a choice.. I would not recommend lapband at all. I was successful with mine lost all my weight 120 lbs in 9 months and loved it for almost 6 years and then it eroded and I had to have it taken out .. No fun!

    Self pay question

Oh and I forgot to mention my $18,500 included free fills and visits for life.

    Self pay question

I paid $18,500 for lapband in 2008 and then just paid $28,800 for lapband removal and revision to rny bypass on May 21, 2014. In Connecticut.

    Drinking

I was cleared for alcohol 6 weeks after surgery. I only have had a couple glasses of skinny vine moscato (very low sugar and low carb and low calorie). I don't like how it makes my hot flashes from meno worse but do enjoy being able to sip some every now and then.

    Happy!

I was revised from band to bypass (band removed at same time as I was revised to rny) on May 21,2014 8 weeks ago and I can tell you 1. It's so much easier than the band 2. My recovery was easier than when I was banded 3. I never throw up 4. I can eat and not worry if there is a bathroom nearby if I have to throw up 5. I feel amazing! 6. I am self pay and would do the rny again in a heartbeat but wouldn't do the band again.
  9. Hi!!! I was revised from band to bypass on May 21, 2014. Omg I love my bypass! What a difference!!! I don't feel like I'm stuck all the time, I don't throw up, I don't have to find a barroom before I eat to make sure I can run there in time.. It's awesome! I was successful with my band lost all my weight 120 pounds in 9 months, kept it off for 5 years then bam one day I couldn't keep anything down even with an unfill. So revision was my option.. My band had eroded. I can tell you the revision surgery was easier for me than the band surgery. I knew I had to get up and walk ASAP after surgery because the gas pain killed me last time so I did!! I walked within 2 hours of surgery and kept walking. I was able to go home day after surgery and my recovery was amazing. Felt awesome! I even asked my doc if he really took out the band and did the rny I felt so good!! Feel free to pm me with any questions!!! And good luck!!

    Bypass or Lap band

Hi redwings! I was banded in 2008 and lost 120 in 9 months was at goal for 5 years and I was anemic with the band. I had to have iron infusions.. Anyways my band all of a sudden after 5 years failed me, I couldn't keep anything down. So on May 21 I had it taken out and revised to rny. Best thing I ever did! I wish I had gotten rny first!!! I didn't even consider the sleeve reason being I saw people were being revised from sleeve to rny on here! Hell no was I doing another wls surgery! This was my last one! I am self pay for both surgeries and can tell you I am much much happier with the bypass! I don't throw up, I don't have food stuck, I feel better than I did with the band too! I was a huge fan of the band but when I heard my doc say most bands are failing after 5 years and he doesn't want to put them in anymore I was upset I chose the "new" thing first instead of the tried and true. $18,500 wasted. Oh well.. So I would if I were you look at the boards of band to bypass revisions and sleeve to bypass revisions. Also I have quite a few friends who had the band and were not successful with it. I was lucky that I was successful, I did everything right, my band did not slip, it just eroded. Good luck and please don't hesitate to pm me with any questions..

    Sick Of Compliments And Comments

I can tell you from previous experience once you lose all the weight the comments won't bother you so much because people do forget you being bigger.. I was banded in 2008 and lost 120 at hit my goal weight in 9 months.. It took about a year but people started commenting on how my outfit looked nice or how hot I looked there was no more comparisons to the fat me. I had rny on May 21 (band failed) and had to gain 50 pounds to meet the criteria which I did in 3 months lol and now am down 31 of those pounds and I can tell ya I can hardly wait to get back to the point where it's comments on my outfits and how hot I am lol I hate the constant how much have you lost now???? Keep your chin up I promise it will come to a point where people forget the fat you and just know the new you.
  12. I was revised from band to rny and I too have a blood clotting disorder mthfr. I take blood thinners for two weeks after any surgery.. That's about it..
  13. It's normal! I was plateaued for 3 weeks!!! But then it started coming off again. Just breathe and if you search the word stall or plateau you will see a lot of others had the same thing happen..

    Are We Worth It?

I know I am worth it! I paid for my lapband, all my plastics (tummy tuck, breast lift with implants, thigh lift and lipo), revision from band to bypass.. And I can say I would do it all again except for the band. It was worth every single penny. I had it all done here in Connecticut so paid quite a bit (I was not comfortable going out of U.S.) but I am sooo happy with the choices I made. There is no greater satisfaction for me than when I am naked in front of my husband. We have been married for 23 years and he has seen me at 305 pounds and he has seen me thin. The confidence to strut around naked after plastics was worth every penny we spent. So yes I am worth it! So are all of you!
  16. Pinklove, I found the bypass recovery much easier than the band.. I felt great after but knew to walk walk walk as soon as I could. I was walking within hours of my surgery. Other than that it's pretty much the same as the band and I'm sure the sleeve. Just follow the diet perscribed by your doc. Good luck!!!

    Ground beef

I had ground beef and no problems I just out some reduced sugar ketchup on it.
  18. As of this morning I am down 29!!! Yipee! Only approximately 40 more to go. I would be super happy losing just 20 more but 40 is my "goal" weight.
  19. Congrats on your surgery!!!! Isn't it amazing the difference???? So so much easier than the band!!!
  20. Congratulations on getting started!!! I have lost 28.5 since my surgery on May 21. I was prepared I would lose slower since my bmi was 35 day of surgery.. I remember the closer I am to goal the slower it comes off.. I'm happy with the 28.5 praying it keeps going down lol Really still loving the bypass! So far the only issue I have had is with hard alcohol I tried some vodka and yeah my tummy revolted lol Can hardly wait to hear about your surgery date!

    The Last Straw

I'm 5 weeks out and haven't dumped but I keep my sugar intake low under 10 grams ..
  23. Feel like I'm losing my damn mind! Rny may 21 lost 20 pounds and then bam hit a stall. I haven't lost in 2 weeks! I actually go up and down the same 2 pounds. It's starting to mess with my head. I told all my friends I had this surgery, I did the same when I was banded and it helped keep me motivated to lose.. I need that push. It's embarrassing though when they ask how much did you lose this week lol I'm like arrrrghhh haha it's crazy how my mind thinks well this is it, you aren't going to lose anymore.. I am eating under 600 calories, 65 grams of protein, 64 + ounces of water, no sugar, low carb and low fat and I'm walking every day so I know I'm doing all the right things now my body just has to catch up. How are all of you doing??
