  1. I survived my first dinner in a restaurant. Only ate the grilled chicken out of the taco. Did not eat the flour tortilla or the cilantro & cabbage that were also inside. I cut it up into the tiniest pieces ever. ( I think the waitress thought I was nuts).

The only thing that bothered me was that I never got to even take a sip of my Water ( damn half hour rule!)

The "old me" would have been bothered by the massive amounts of wings & beer that surrounded me. Or the plate of "loaded tater tots" that the couple next to us had. But instead, this Sleevie Wonder was bothered by not being able to drink water when she wanted to. Should we chalk it up to a first NSV???

  2. Just walking and sipping away. Trying to keep my mind off of the pain from my incision. I got pain medication but it is horrible tasting! Other than that and being sleepy I'm OK so far

I could not do the liquid pain medicine either. (Tylenol with codeine) It was so horrible tasting & burned going down. It just wasn't worth it to take it. I called my surgeon & he said to try taking Tylenol PM or extra strength Tylenol in pill form. He said that as long as it's not a horse pill, it will be fine...and it was. Took very little Water with it & it went down fine. Only took it at night for the first couple says home to help me sleep better. Hope you have a speedy recovery!!!

  3. Taking everything at once can be irritating to your stomach. The irritation and acid can feel like hunger. You should also split them up because of absorption issues. Omeprazole can interfere with absorption of Vitamins. (B 12 in particular). Omeprazole actually works best on an empty stomach. And like it was said before, Calcium and Iron (In your multi) shouldn't be taken together.

Is it ok to take the vitamins 2 hours apart from each other?

  4. What are all my fellow 7/22 sleeves eating these days?

My Dr. let me start purée a week early. I am able to do 1/4 cup of eggbeaters with some cheese mixed in.

I ate 2tbsp of Smuckers reduced fat natural peanut butter...very good.

I made turkey chili (cooked the ground turkey breast & then zapped it to dust in a blender)...sits well & turned out great. Perfect consistency & make me feel like I'm eating "normal". 1/4-1/2 cup of that.

I also can do 1/4-1/2 cup of retried Beans mixed with cheese & the ground turkey "dust". I also mixed a little taco seasoning with Fage Greek yogurt to dip the beans in. (Hot sauce still isn't sitting well).

Hubby crab cakes. I was nervous about this, but he made with ground up almonds(dust) as the bread crumbs...very little just to hold them together. Once cooked, I was able to mash up real good with a fork & had no problems going down.

Today I will be making the Ricotta Bake from the World According to Eggface blog. If you haven't been on it, do yourself a huge favor & get on her blog now! Every post surgery recipe you can imagine!!! She is 8 years post op. So there is a ton of info!

I also has a large hernia/hole in diaphragm repair. Other than the awful gurgling sound that come from my esophagus up my throat...I feel fantastic. Down 30 lbs. (only 5 lbs away from "Onederland")

  5. I had surgery on 7-31 also and have my check up on Tuesday. I'm looking forward to him telling me I can add Beans, pureed veggies, and crackers. I'll have 2 weeks of that before I move to solid food. I am ready to eat and chew too, but hey we've done the liquids for this long right? Lol I just can't wait for the stage when I can have eggs because I've been craving an over medium with pepper and cholula :)

Be careful with the Cholula at first. Pre sleeve...I put that on everything. I'm sure I will again, but in the early stage it hasn't felt so great going down.

  6. It seem like a lot of people are starting to eat solid foods. I will be on the next stage of starting soft solids but I don't know if my stomach is ready. Also when I am at work I get gas pain in my stomach. I don't know what is the cause but it makes me not able to eat for the rest of the day until I go home,. Also when I drink I heard gurgling in my throat which is so embarrassing. I just don't know how to keep the air out.

I have constant gurgling too. And sometimes it's super loud & embarrassing. Is this normal? I thought maybe it was a result of the hiatal hernia repair. I certainly hope it goes away soon!

  7. @@evanslaura79 I got my staples out on Friday, too. Mine weren't so much itching as stabbing me, but I feel soooo much better now that they're out. I can finally sleep more comfortably--even on my stomach, which I have missed. I will admit that I'm very much over Protein Shakes, but the thought that it's just one more week keeps me going. I also need to start walking more. I'm coming up on the dreaded three-week stall that everyone talks about, although I think I'm already in a stall. The scale hasn't really moved for me in about a week, and I did a lot of walking downtown this weekend. I'm not discouraged, as I know this is all part of the progress. I just know I need to do more work. Hope everyone else is doing okay.

I have stalled too and I am only 2 weeks out. Still on liquids...but have not seen the scale drop since Thursday. A little disappointing. I expected the liquids phase to be the time I drop the most.

  8. I am a little over a week out now. Sleeve date was July 22nd. The first few days are the worst and it seems everyone has different issues. I felt like I was hit by a truck muscle pains everywhere but no nausea at all. Everyday I've gotten a little better and am up and around. I was just wondering what kind of Protein Shakes are you guys drinking. I have Unjury unflavored which I can taste in milk. Any yummy suggestion while still in the all liquid stage? Becca

Premier Protein chocolate shake. You can get at Walmart or sams club....and a few other places. Taste more like chocolate milk & not too "proteiny". The key for me is to pour it over a ton of ice & never smell it!

  9. I am 2 weeks post op & feel like I have stalled already. Granted, I know I should be on the scale everyday, but let's face it...most of us are. I have gotten in most of my liquid and about 50-53 g of Protein each day & anywhere for 400-600 calories on full liquids...but the scale hasn't budged in 4 days. It's really frustrating.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I will say...I have lost 27 lbs. (12 were from 2 week pre op diet), so I shouldn't complain too much. Just needed to vent.

  10. I was sleeved 7/14, which means that including preop I have been eating liquids and small portions of soft, low carb foods for over a month. I have to say, I'm missing eating. Obviously I was addicted to it, which led to my situation. But I'm having a hard time adjusting to how much I want to eat versus how much I should eat. Seeing just a few tablespoons fills me up physically but not mentally. Anyone feeling a little like this?

I am really missing actual food. Being on liquids still (2 weeks post op), I have a great desire to chew. I never thought I would be so excited for the puréed stage. I can't wait for eggs, retried Beans, and the ricotta bake from the Eggface blog.

The delicious smell of my kids microwave popcorn in the house is going to put me over the edge!!!

  11. Mushroom Soup. Cottage cheese. tuna with light mayo. Egg in microwave with sprinkled cheese. Soft soy Beans mashed with fork. I stayed away from refried beans made me feel icky and way to full. Egg Drop soup was a staple too.

Did you have regular Campbell's mushroom soup, or a low fat version? I love mushroom soup! My post op,appt is tomorrow & I am looking forward to the "full liquids" stage. I unfortunately do not like yogurt, cream of wheat & pudding...so it will be 2 weeks of soup for me!

  12. I am awaiting my Unjury unflavored now. I guess I will be adding it to everything! I have my alarm set to go off every 15 minutes. I am drinking something at that time, either Water or Protein Shake or Soup at meal times. Today I am going to start journaling all my intake and see where I land. At the end of the day I feel FULL and tired. Yet my new wake up time has become 530 am. I have never been an early riser. Weird.

I don't like many (most) of the Protein shakes/powders out there...but 2 of my main sources are Unjury chicken soup (nice break from all the sweet, without that awful "protein"taste...and Premier Protein chocolate shake over a lot of ice. It has 30g of protein in 11oz. That is liquid gold!!!

It's been hard for me to gauge when I'm full because of only being on liquids, but I do get a gurgling feeling when I drink. Is that what full feels like? Or an I drinking too fast?

  13. Am 1 week post op & I have had no problems with whatever anyone eats, cooks, grills, crunches, etc in front of me...EXCEPT popcorn. My kids make it every night & it smells so darn good.

I certainly will not try to indulge for a very, very long time, but from those with experience...will I be able to eat it again someday?

Or do the kernels tend to irritate the sleeve?
