I had to do three months of nutrition and some test. Once everything was completed, they submitted the paperwork and I want to say about two weeks. It was fast in my opinion.

My surgery was textbook. I would not have it any other way. Dr. Rosenthal is the best.

Did you end up having the VSG at Cleveland? How did it go? Who was your dr.? I'm pre on with Lo Menzo
I did get the sleeve with Dr. Rosenthal. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Good luck to you!

No I was just asked for $175 co-pay when I was admitted.
-
I have the Basic and my bill was $200 for the surgeon and $350 for the hospital. $550 in total.

So glad your surgery went well. Keep up the positive thinking and rest up!

I had surgery May 5th so I am 22 days out. Even though I am still not quite myself I am recovering at the speed my body is wanting to. My incisions are really starting to itch (but I dare not touch them) and my left side still has some burning pain but it has been explained. Anyone going to use mederma or Vitamin e bio-oil etc? My surgeon says there really is no scientific proof they work but once my scabs fall off I am welcome to put whatever I want on them. I still need to work on becoming more regular but graduating to the part of our new way of eating...it's not to big on Fiber initially but I'll get there. I am being super careful with my eating and drinking. I can't wait to graduate to soft foods but I will wait until day 30. All in all I have lost 24.2 pounds and I am in shock! I do not weigh myself everyday I weigh every 4 or more days. There sure is a lot to adapt to but all in all I think I am doing the best I possibly can. -----what are your updates?
Angelface - I am 20 days out. My incisions are also itchy. It's a sign they are healing. I am using 100% Shea Butter. It seems to help. I am on soft foods and so far so good. I have lost 25 pounds so far. My only concern is not getting enough Water throughout the day. Between the foods, trying to get 60-80 grams of Protein and the Vitamins it seems like a lot. It seems we are on target. Keep up the good work!

I had gastric band in 2009 had a terrible time also - had it removed in Jan and bypass on May 6th - my first weighing in is tomorriw :-)
Bridget - good luck tomorrow. Please keep in mind that even though you are not dumping, when you eat sugar (even Splenda) it increases your cravings for carbs and it makes you hungry. Try soft Proteins or sugar free Popsicles instead. Hope you are feeling better!

I have federal bcbs basic...they made me pay 20 percent of my meds during surgery and hospital stay...total with surgeon co pay and hospital co pay my out of pocket was over 3,000! I had my surgery February 5 2014. Should I be asking bcbs what was up with that? I had to pay this total before my surgery date! Grrrrrrr....but still totally worth it. Would like refund to go cloths shopping!
I would call the hospital and asked for an itemized bill first. Then get your explanation of benefits and compare. You should not have paid that much with the basic plan.

How about diet pills, I fell that I'm not losing fast enough and was thinking about taking diet pills
I wouldn't take diet pills. I had a friend who had the bypass six years ago didn't take her Vitamins, didn't follow doctors orders and today she weighs about 60-70 pounds. She can't work and has hernias from the diet pills and laxatives she took in order to lose more rapidly. Just talk to your doctor or nutritionist and get on a healthy plan. The sleeve is a tool and it takes time and dedication.

Prayers sent your way. Just take a deep breath and put it all in the hands of God. You will do great! Keep us posted! Mine is tomorrow the 8th. Many blessing!

Thanks! It's so nice to be able to chat with people going through the same thing .
Hi Annie68 - how is the pre-op diet going? How are you doing?
-
JoleneB - my last day is clear liquid as well and nothing after midnight. I am in Fort Lauderdale not too far. It's exciting that we are going through this journey at the same time. Let me make how it goes today!

Well starting day 4 of liquid diet and I feel sooo much better, I can do this. My energy level has been really low I hope it picks up. I finish my pre op tomorrow with EKG, CXR and blood work then surgery!!! I have 3 women that I work with that had the bypass all within the last year, they all look so beautiful and healthy. I've been looking at all the youtube video transformations, gotta say I'm a little worried about the Hair loss though! Some seem to have it worse than others. Anyway, off to buy some gas ex and order my Vitamins, I'm getting the "Celebrate" vitamins. We were given a few different choices and these seemed to taste the best and have to take less of these than the others. People have made negative comments like " you have to take these vitamins every day for the rest if your life!" Like that's such a big deal...... I take blood pressure meds every single day, and wear a CPAP every single night, I'd rather give those up and take my vitamins every single day!!! Have a great day everyone!!
Jolene how long are you on the pre-op? We have the same date and I have to do 14 days. I am also on day 4. Just having a hard time with the Protein Shakes and went today and got a few different ones. I already finished all my pre-op blood work and stuff. I also ordered the Celebrate Vitamins and feel exactly like you. If I can give up my other meds for daily vitamins, then I would much rather do that. Keep up the good work.

I've heard the first 3 days of the liquid diet are the hardest then pretty easy after that.
Today is my first day and I am having a hard time. Not hungry--just the side effects. Hope tomorrow is better for us!

I was given two doctors - one at Holy Cross and one at Cleveland Clinic. I went to CC and I spoke to Dr. Rosenthal and after several visits we both decided that the sleeve would be the best surgery for me. He answered all my questions and concerns. He is great but I also looked at his team; the nutrition team, the insurance coordinator - just the whole package - I can't complain.

Congratulations to you both. It's not an easy journey and you guys need a good support system. I had s great surgery buddy whom I met on this site and I still am in contact with. Even though I haven't met her, it's important to have someone who is going through some of the same issues as you. I wish you both all the best.
