  1. Hi Reen,

I am being banded the same day as you. My surgery is scheduled for 10am. I live in Oregon and my Dr is in Eugene. It's about 70 miles from where I live so we will most likely go up the night before so we don't have to travel so early in the morning. Good luck to you and let's keep in touch. Kathy

  2. OK guys, add me to the list for March 26th. Woohoo!! I am so excited. I am doing a 2 week liquid diet now since I have to lose 5 to 10 pounds before surgery. My pre-op is the 20th. I figure I'll have the weight off by then. The diet they gave me is Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar free) and one Protein Bar a day and one 300 calorie Lean Cuisine for dinner. I savor every bite of that real food. So far I am on day 6 and doing fine. I am enjoying reading about all the surgeries so far this month.

  3. Hi Sharon,

I live in Oregon and I am home as of last night. It was a long trip home due to road closures and having to take the coast to get home in the rain. It makes me nervous to ride in the rain in the motorhome. Anyway, I haven't been scheduled yet but I have my nutrition class left to complete and then I will be submitted for insurance approval. I start this week on that. I gained an additional 8 pounds so now I have to lose that and then from 5 to 10 pounds. GRRRR! Why did I do that to myself!! The road from Reno to Vegas is pretty snowed in, be careful.

  4. Thanks for your responses everyone. I am on the road and trying to get home by going around the snow. My trip down to Arizona has not only delayed my getting the band but I know I have gained even more weight so I'll have to lose that much more before my surgery. The doctor said 5 to 10 pounds and I thought that would be a snap. Now I dread getting on my scale when I get home and then having to start really dieting big time. Kathy

  5. Hi Everyone,

I am still in the process of being banded. Still have to go thru the nutrition program and then they will submit for approval to my ins co. My question is are those of you who are over 50 or 60 satisfied with your weight loss on the band. I have been reading the posts all over this forum and I worry that I will go through this surgery only to be dissappointed in my weight loss. Regular dieting and exercise only seems to maintain my weight rather than losing more weight. I am really excited about doing this but I worry that it will be in vain. I am healthy so far and have no co-morbidities and hope to turn things around before I develop a life threatening illness. I am just curious as to how much weight those of you in my age group have lost since banding. Thanks so much

  6. Hi Anne,

I haven't been banded yet but I know quite a bit about exercise. If you haven't been doing any exercise for a long period of time I would think you should start with walking. Start with a short distance and every week increase the length. You also should be doing some sort of strength training. You can go to the Real Age website at: RealAge Workout -- Find fitness with walking and simple exercises and it has videos of different workouts from strength training to other workouts. Good luck and keep up the good work.

  7. Hi everyone,

I just discovered this thread for 60ites and it's good to know there's a place to go to for my age group. I haven't been banded yet but I have my first appt with the Dr next week. This Forum has been so helpful in answering questions and even helping with things I never thought of. You are all such and inspiration and I will be checking back here frequently.

  8. Hi Jae,

I live in Roseburg. Yes, I went to a seminar last month in Roseburg. I thought the same thing and was quite surprised to see a room full of prospective lap band patients. My seminar was conducted by Dr Thomas Umbach from Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene. I've been reading these forums and trying to decide if this is right for me. I am pretty sure I am going to go for it. Good luck to you and hope you'll keep in touch.

  9. Hi Everyone,

I have been reading these posts for a few weeks and I am still at the undecided stage of whether I want the lapband or not. I have been to the seminar given by the doctor who does the surgery and he said that you must eliminate coffee entirely from your life. I haven't seen anyone talking about coffee so I thought I would ask if anyone else was told this or if anyone still drinks coffee after banding. I would really miss my morning coffee (I drink it black). I have found out my insurance company does cover the surgery and am leaning towards it but I am still a bit reluctant. Thanks for your input in advance.

  11. Hi Fatnomore, I have just started looking into Lapband. I was wondering if a self pay would make things go faster. I agree on being tired of dieting and losing only to regain the weight somewhere down the road. My last loss of 69 pounds on Atkins is just about all gained back. I am so tired of the process of losing only to regain the weight. My husband is backing me up but he does say he feels like this is a "cop out" and "the easy way". I try explaining that I have lost and gained weight so many times that I am sick of it. He has never gone on a diet so he doesn't know the frustrations I've been through. Now that I am gulp 60 years old, (wow that was hard to admit) I just want to be healthy and I know it's just a matter of time before the weight will cause me to be sick. I wish you and all the others the best and I will continue to check into this procedure.
