    My father-in-law is oblivious.

My aunt sent me gourmet cookies after my surgery, because she wanted to so something nice. She was mortified when she realized what she had done. We get cookies every Christmas and they all go to work with my husband. A lot of people just don't realize what they are actually doing. It's the thought that counts?!

    New tasties!

It's really good! You can use it for baking too. I originally had to order it online, but our local Ralph's just started carrying it.
  3. Hi Chelly! I am currently in "maintenance mode", and I am 1 year and 9 months post op. Maintenance is definitely a challenge! I think going back to shakes for a short time, and kind of starting over, may be a good way to go. I have done a ton of recipe searching, and there a lot of good bariatric recipes out there. Poultry can be difficult for me to get down and I do not eat red meat (by choice), so I eat a lot of yogurt and cottage cheese. I also have almonds and the very occasional Protein bar. Could you speak to the Nutritionist? Sounds like you just need a little guidance getting back on track, and some help with food alternatives. I know it's hard, but none of us would be here if food was easy for us! You have come really far and gone through a huge life change...keep it up!!

    Anyone else 5'0" and 205?

I am 5'0 and was 202 when I had my bypass. I am 1 year and 8 months post, and I am in maintenance mode at 120lbs.
  8. Yay! You look fabulous!

    Protein

Cytosport makes a Protein Water although, I believe it does contain whey. I got mine from The Vitamin Shoppe, and they have always been really helpful. I'm so sorry you have had such a rough time, and hope things get better for you soon!

In need of someone to talk to

Hi! I think a lot of us have been where you are right now. Just the idea of weight loss surgery is overwhelming, let alone figuring everything else out. I had gastric bypass 1 1/2 years ago, and I am currently in maintenance mode. It is absolutely one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I would do it again. The beginning is the toughest...you just have to hang in there and try your best everyday! Does your doctor's office have a nutritionist on staff? This would be a really great time to get some food advice and extra encouragement. I have faith in you! Keep moving forward.

Looking for a Mentor.. having RNY Sep. 17th

Hi Brenda! I noticed that today is your surgery date...congrats! I am not in St. Louis ( I am in California) but I am 1 year and 7 seven months post op. I have reached my goal and I am currently in maintenance mode. I would be happy to answer any questions you have, or lend support. I hope today is the beginning of a great experience for you. My best piece of advice for this particular day, is to walk as much as you can, even it's minimal and slow as molasses! Best of luck! Laura
  12. Medicare does not cover them. I use mostly Twin Labs Vitamins, and they cost me roughly $100, about every 6-8 weeks. The shakes vary, depending on the ones you like. I drink Pure Protein, and they run between $2.20 - 2.99 per can, depending on where you get them. You can also do powders, but I like the convenience of the cans. I had Gastric Bypass, so I am sure if we would still take the same Vitamin combination. I now get my D-3 at Walmart pretty cheap. Hope this helps!
  13. After 17 months, I am still the same cup size, but smaller around.
  14. This is the kind of crap that really bothers me! I had RNY 17 months ago, and have never taken vitamins every 2 hours. I now take 1 multi, B12, D3, and iron in the morning, and 2 calcium and 1 multi in the evening, and my labs are great. Some people may need or less, depending on your labs. You will take vitamins for life, that's just part of the deal.

    Smartlipo

I am 16 months post-op and had a follow-up appointment with my surgeon today. I spoke to him about having loose skin removed, and he informed me of Smartlipo. Has anyone had this?
  18. Honestly, eating right 100% of the time is important! It's a total lifestyle change, and you will have to learn to plan ahead for travel etc. Get your whole family involved in eating healthier, and you will be amazed how great everyone, not just you, feels.

    Allergy Medicine

When did you have your surgery? I was told it was okay to take children's Benadryl, because it comes in chewable form.
  20. No one who was ever your true friend, would do what she has done. Real friends support each other, even if they don't agree with their choices. You will be changing, and she won't. She can hold onto her "fat acceptance" crap as a crutch, and you go and do what you need to do for yourself. Stop reading her blogs/posts! I'm sorry for the hurt she has caused you, but you have already outgrown her.
  21. Hi Mike! Congratulations on getting your date. I am 16 months post-op from Gastric Bypass, and so happy I made the decision to do the surgery. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Best of luck to you!
  22. I was in for 2 days, and I don't remember really reading much of anything, or using a tablet. If I wasn't walking or sleeping, I had visitors, and my husband kept me company. I brought my own toiletries, and I did take a shower there. Also, I am not a fan of hospital socks, so slippers for sure.

    Lets talk about shoes!

Yes! I was a 7 1/2 - 8 before surgery, and now I am a 6 1/2-7. I bought my first pair of platform pumps several months ago, and I am able to walk in them with no problems.
