Hair falling out
Okay... So I'm 12 weeks post op. The nutritionist told me that I would have issues with my hair falling out. I was just wondering for some of you ahead, when does that stop? Thanks!

Why should you not drink when you eat
I think a lot of people who are losing weight without surgery could benefit from not drinking during meals!
-
What foods made you dump?
I had dumping syndrome once. I had oatmeal with lactaid milk. It was the strangest thing, I didn't add sugar or anything. I had the cold sweats, heart racing, and was in the bathroom for awhile. I asked my doctor about it and they said that the oatmeal shouldn't have caused that at all, but I knew I never wanted to experience it again. I do know that if I do eat something with too much sugar I get terrible gas pains

weight loss at a stand still
WHOA! Not true! Exercise is definitely crucial. The more muscle mass you have the more calories you burn at rest. Also, it will help with tightening loose skin. So, definitely start an exercise regime. However, you're going to lose weight. You can't eat under a thousand calories and not lose. I'm stalled out big time. I feel like I'm not getting anywhere, but I'm being patient. Something has to happen!

Post Op March 2014
Kristina...Thank you for saying a really nice thing. I'm not upset about what I have lost, I feel great. I just get frustrated with these stalls. I don't really feel like my dietician is helping, so I'm having to go outside to find someone else. It's difficult for me because with one of my medicines I have to eat 350 calories in order for it to be absorbed. So, I'm not sure how many I need to eat total. Am I eating too much? Not enough? I end up eating between 800-900. My dietician told me 650 max right now. Plus, I exercise pretty hard, burning anywhere from 500-700 calories. I know its not an exact science, but I wish it was!!! I'm not ungrateful for what i have lost, and would not change anything about having had my surgery done. I just wish I understood more.

Post Op March 2014
I'm not sure what you mean by that? I have lost a total of 78lbs, but since my surgery I have only lost 47. I thought I would have lost a lot more. I'm following the doctors orders. Not sure what else I can do.

Getting tired of personal questions regarding my weight loss.
"All my doctors say everything is great with me!" They can't argue with a doctor, because they don't have a medical degree. My friends and family are still all upset about how many calories I eat. They just can't wrap it around their heads that I have a much smaller stomach and I don't absorb as many calories. They don't understand because they haven't been through it themselves. I hope everyone will just let you be.

Post Op March 2014
Its hard not to judge yourself anywhere!! I weigh myself every Monday, I'm 11 weeks post op, and have only lost 47.6 pounds since surgery. I really thought I would be much father after almost 3 months. I feel frustrated. I'm starting to wonder if my medications for my bipolar have anything to do with slowing me down. I was never looking for a quick fix, I just want to make sure I'm doing all the right things. Plus, I don't feel like 750 calories is enough for me. Seems like I'm hungry, even following all the protocols for eating. I'm drinking only water, not eating out, eating slowly and solid foods, exercising, I mean what more do I need to do??? I'm right there with you sparkling beauty!

Need some ideas! Please!
I've been treating my bipolar for 7 years now. I've been on everything under the sun! That's why I had to have the bypass. I may have been 20lbs overweight, but until I started psychiatric drugs I gained soooo much weight. So, latuda is the only thing we have found that works. I talked to the dietician and she said to add a tablespoon of peanut butter! Won't be too filling and add 100 calories. I'll take it. Thanks for the help!

Need some ideas! Please!
How about a Protein drink with some extras mixed in? Peanut Butter, etc. It'll be healthy and give you protein and should be over 350. Well, I thought about that. However, my surgeon doesn't want me drinking any Protein drinks, because they are not solid food. And, my psychiatrist told me it should be solid food. A Protein Drink would be so much easier though!

Need some ideas! Please!
Hi all. I'll just start off by saying that I have bipolar disorder. I was doing awesome for months, but recently I had a hypomanic episode which fell into bad depression. I stayed in my bed all weekend and basically stared at the wall or slept. So I saw my psychiatrist and he told me it was malabsorption. He said he's seen this with a lot of his patients who have gastric bypass. The particular medicine that I'm on, latuda, requires 350 calories for it to be absorbed into the body. I decided to have a larger meal in the middle of the day. Now, I need to find something that is 350 calories and healthy. I can't put a bunch of healthy things together because it would be too much to eat. Anyone have any ideas of some meals that I could have that would be healthy and 350 calories? Thanks!

Getting so frustrated... starting to become depressed
I have bipolar disorder, and it's been under control for quite a few months now. However, I have been stalled out on my weightless for a couple of weeks and it's really starting to get to me. My dietician told me it was probably because of how hard I exercise, but for me, I should see results. When I go running everyday and workout really hard, my body should be cooperating. I just feel like I have done so much, and am seeing so little in return. Sorry if I am bringing anyone down. I just needed to vent this.

Just got home today!
Congrats on your surgery! It's such a major event in our lives, and something we should be proud of! As far as the gas, I'm with everyone else, WALK! It's the only way to get it moving, and out of your body! GOOD LUCK!!

Why am I hungry?
I don't know about you, but for me, that was head hunger. Right after I had surgery I thought I was hungry, because I was craving food. I would see commercials on tv, or watch my family eat, it was hard. In my opinion, which is just that, it's all psychological. You know deep down inside that if you eat anything you want you'll be sick as a dog!!! Just remember that I wish you good luck, and just try to get through that first week or so. I can remember asking myself why I did it. I promise it does get better. HUGS!

Question about calories
Hi all... I'm 9 weeks post op and last time I talked with my dietician she said I need to be eating anywhere from 450-650 calories. Well, when I work out (which is pretty hard), I burn roughly 700 calories. I know I should probably call her, but I'm just curious about what your dietician tells you.

I did it.
Good Luck on your journey. We're all here to help you along!

Miss my........
My doc no soda of any kind for two years! By then I don't think I will miss it anymore! I miss my Coke Zero a lot of times. My doctor told me no soda forever, that it will stretch out the pouch. However, I have found flavored waters like Vitamin Water zero and Sobe water is nicer than just plain. No calories!

Benadryl : Can I take it?
They gave me benadryl in the hospital because of my anxiety. However, definitely call your doctor. I have to call them today to ask if I can just take glucosamine! Its so funny how we could take anything before, and now we have to be so careful

How long after surgery did you excersize
I was exercising pretty hard before my surgery, so I went back to my spinning class after 2 weeks. But, I listened to my body and slowed down when I needed to, and only went 3 times a week.
-
Miss my........
Sometimes I really miss my Coke Zero. I know it's not good for you, surgery or no surgery. But, I just miss a cold, icy fountain Coke Zero. Now, unsweetened tea is my treat.
-
Starving!
I think it's pretty different for everyone. I wasn't hungry at all, but I was craving things. Just get through that liquid stage!
-
Excess GAS anyone?
Its pretty normal to have excess gas in the very beginning. It's actually a good thing. When I was in the hospital they told me that if I needed to pass gas or burp to just let it go. Be happy its happening!

Pouch pain is your own fault- interesting talk with my PA
I'm 2 months out, and I find that if I have pain in my stomach its because I know I did something wrong. Now, if you are following all of her advice and still have pain its time to let them know. Good luck to you

Now that you've had surgery...what's your biggest obstacle?
I had my surgery March 17, so I'm 2 months out. I would have to say my biggest obstacle is to try and not graze. If I see something on the counter I might have a taste, or more. I've been working on it, and have been doing better. What about you? What's been your biggest obstacle so far?
