Hi. I live near H'burg, and I will be (hopefully) getting my surgery from Dr. Avara in Ocean Springs soon. I have my PET class and Psych Review next week.
The PET class is super easy. I used Dr.Avara and the entire team is amazing!!! I was sleeved by him on march 24th!

I've not heard of bariatric patients using Slim Fast. But if your bariatric medical team has ok'd it, then it must be ok for you. My concern would just be to make sure that the Slim Fast is of the same high quality Protein and provides the same nutrients as the more common bariatric Proteins we most often use like Premier Protein, unjury, Syntrax, etc. Thanks for the info. I'm going to look at it the next time I'm at the store!
I'm scared too! Lol but I know it's for weight loss, but I do knkw that we need the Protein to gain muscle or prevent muscle loss etc but now I'm concerned....here's a picture of the ones I'm talking about!
-
So I know a lot of people have their opinions on slim fast but I was given the ok to drink the slim fast that is high Protein (20g) !!! It's soooooo much better than most Protein Drinks and it also has 2g of sugar and 4g of carb! Perfect!! Does anybody else drink these???

I'm day 3 post op. Worried cause I didn't have one bit of trouble drinking 11oz. Premier Protein shake. Ya I had some bubbles in tummy and rumbling. But otherwise no prob.
I know a lot of people will probably tell you different but my surgeon told me not to worry at all because liquid goes straight through you. Mine told me to drink as much Water and liquids as I wanted.

Welcome Brittanielynn! I was sleeved by Dr Avera on September 24th! The entire clinic is awesome!!! Please keep in touch-I don't live on the coast but try to get to an occasional support group. My biggest regret is not going to more-I find them valuable!!!
I messaged you!!!

Man you're lucky. I'm 3 months post op and I still can't get in my 64 ounces a day.
Sorry it took so long for a reply! I went on vacation after my 3 week checkup! Tomorrow makes a month sleeved for me. I asked my doctor if there was such a thing as "drinking to much water" and he laughed and said he would never tell me something that wasn't true and told me to drink as much as I wanted. I have absolutely no problem hitting my goal of Water unless I make it a problem and just don't drink enough that day lol

I would slow down on the mashed potatoes and start getting in the Protein. Are you following a meal plan from your surgeon? Are you drinking Protein Shakes?
Yes I am having protein shakes. Not as much as I should but I do have them. And yes I follow my binder from the hospital and at week 3 it says purée foods and soft things like shaved deli meats, cooked vegetables, tuna fish with fat free mayo etc but I know I'm not eating at the right times Or as much as I'm supposed to because I don't feel hungry. I can never eat at the right times
-
You lost 25 pounds since surgery or overall?
Since my surgery date.
-
Are you drinking while eating? I had surgery on the 25th and my feeling of fullness varies from day to day. But I can eat five ounces of Greek yogurt at a time. I think with slider foods we are able to eat more. It should be that when you go to solid foods you are going to feel fuller a lot faster. How'd your weight loss going?
No I'm not drinking while eating. I've lost 25lbs and 16 inches in my stomach so far.
-
I was sleeved march 24th. I know only 1-2ounces is all I need and that is supposed to make me feel full but I feel as if I can eat 6 ounces before I feel full. I don't know what to do. I went for my 3 week checkup on the 16th and he told me I was doing great. However it's been just eggs and mashed potatoes and soft things like that because at first tuna fish was ok and now it gives me horrible heartburn to the point I feel like I'm going to puke! Am I doing something wrong???
-
Yay congrats to you!!!! Same for me as well with the 2!! I'm sitting in my surgeons office now waiting on him to come in for my 3 week checkup! I've only lost 23lbs though but was hoping for me! I've been stalled already but I know I've lost more inches I just want to see more weight come off lol

Yea it's normal one of my friends just got surgery too and she was telling me the same thing. I personally wish I had that problem I only drink 20oz of crystal light a day it's hard drinking more
Crystal light has become my best friend. I drink it constantly. I was also reading in my book how it says it should take 30-45 minutes to eat one meal, which is absolutely not the case for me. I mean it doesn't take that long to eat 1.0 ounce. If it did it would be cold and nasty and I couldn't eat it. I'm not having any problems though. It goes down fine and doesn't hurt me and I don't vomit. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I was sleeved on march 24th. I am now on puréed stage And I go for my 3 week post op appointment in the morning. I'm just wondering if anyone else out there like me feels like they are insanely thirsty? I can literally drink a whole bottle of Water 16.9oz in 30 minutes maybe less. I know they say to drink drink drink but is this normal?? I definitely get my water intake daily, but so far today I've only had one Protein Shake and I finished that within 20 minutes... Just kinda concerned!
-
Oh thanks for that. I will use that as my guide also. Got my post surgery appointment on Thursday so I will also ask if they have a detailed listing like that coz it would definitely be very helpful.... Or I will have to keep asking you for pics of the stages you are on...
No problem!! I'll share any information I have

I am beyond excited with my results. After surgery don't get discouraged because you will hit the insanely long dreaded "stall" and I just got through with mine. I have lost 33lbs so far and 16 inches in my stomach. Well that 16 i haven't measured in a couple weeks so it could be more. Once you get past the liquids stage, it gets easier. I cried and regretted it during that stage. But it does get better!
