Wow.. this is an interesting topic. I went to Valencia, Venezuela in July of this year to marry my beloved in the Catholic Church. While I was in the country I found out many things about politics and the reason for Chavez being in power. Let me say that in Venezuela you only have two classes of people. People that are rich and people that are poor. Most of the wealthy come from engineering backgrounds, Farming and Sports. Until now the rich kept getting richer and the poor kept getting poorer. The poor have the most population in the Country... "in other words" more numbers than the rich. During elections the poor voted Chavez into office as he promises a Socialism State. Think of Robin Hood and this is Chavez. For Example: My friends’ father owns a 100,000 acre farm near Valencia, Venezuela and when Chavez took over power my friends father received a letter from the government that said the property is not his and can be acquired by the People "government" at any time. Also, all the money in the banks now belongs to Chavez and he can do with it what he wants to. What was once land and money with profit is now reduced to worthless. As a bonus the price of a gallon of Gas is $0.02 cents. That's nice... we can drive to Venezuela and filler up for less than $2.59 per Gallon! If you look deeper in the Rabbit hole you will find even more problems. The government controls TV, News... and everything else. A TV station of many years was closed by the government for speaking out against Chavez. The people voted for this to happen. On a positve note; when I was on the Island of Margarita and in other parts of the country, I did see project homes for the poor being built, express trains for fast travel being built. He is also building Schools and Hospitals with the money from what the government is collecting and fighting sickness throughout the country. Propaganda is always our worst enemy. Unless you visit and talk to the real people with real problems it is hard to follow what is really going on in the country. The news only tells us bad things. When you think about why people do what they do... it drives us to the edge of our seats That's the News. I would encourage to look into more than just the surface. I am upset for what is happening in my Wife’s country and how face value is making us think Venezuela is a bad country. all I have to say is the People voted for Chavez "even dead ones" and this is why he is in power. Life is dangerous as criminals are walking the streets and violent crimes are becoming more and more out of control due to a Civil War or as I would put it "a battle between the rich and the poor". The US has our share of problems as well. Just the other day a 5 year old girl was raped 4 miles from where I live and left on the street. I have had a couple of things happen similar to what you are going through. My former wife had 2 lapbands due to the first one leaking. You might check to see if the band is getting proper fill not missing the port when being filled and check if the band is leaking. Hope this helps.

It was a leak in the band that cause my former spouse trouble. We had to get ours replaced and then everything was fine. Hope all is well in the UK. Would love to travel there sometime.

Suzy, Your band will expand as the band works like a balloon. As you consume liquids over the weeks you will require a fill as you feel things are easier to swallow. This means the band is expanding. It might take some minor adjustments ( fills and de-fills) at the start for you to feel comfortable. At this point you have total control over how much or how little your allowed to eat by the about of fills you’re receiving. I would be worried if you were not able to eat at all. I hope everything turns out well for you.

Paula, It sounds like your band might have a leak or when they fill it they are missing the port. I have seen this happen to many. I would have your Dr. do a test to check for a leak and also to ensure he is getting the port during fills.

All, In 2001 my former spouse was Banded in Dallas by Lap Band Solutions Dr. Benavides, M.D. 7920 Belt Line Road, Suite 175 Dallas, TX 75254. Due to a high risk pregnancy and high blood pressure she was bed ridden for the last 4 months of her pregnancy due to her blood pressure. We had our baby in the emergency room because of the stress on her Heart. My former spouse looked like a pin cushion in the emergency room of St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa, OK. This a little bit of the story and I have much more I can tell. At one point she was 278 lbs. She gained most of the weight as she was not able to exercise during the last stages of our child’s birth. I almost lost the mother of our Son in March of 1998. This was High, High risk with her blood pressure. After our baby was born we tried all sorts of diets and exercise routines. Nothing would work as my former spouses Knees could not handle the stress of the workouts. We went looking together for answers. Finally in 2001 we heard about Banding and Gastric Bypass. It was only available in a few areas. We made the decision and traveled to Texas for this procedure. This is where our nightmare began. List of troubles: 1. Fill Port twisting and not able to get fills. Or if we did get a fill in the port we would get too much and having to spend time and money driving back and forth to Dallas to unfill. She was also getting bruised from them twisting on her stomach to fix the port that moved out of place and finally taking trips to College Station to replace the Band. 2. Not able to get proper nutrition as my former spouse could not eat anything as the fills would be to much or not enough. Never the perfect balance. (Remember this was something that was not in all states at that time) This is why I am with Agel.... Positives: 3. Finally cutting the Band and having Gastric Bypass. However in my wifes case she thought the band had a leak and it was loosing the fill into the body. The port was flipped in an akward position so when we were getting fills we were not. After 3 months of this frustration we decided to have Gastric ByPass and loose the lap band.

My wife went through the same thing and yes more fills will help you not eat as much.
