  1. I love reading about everyone!

I'm 40 and am married to my very supportive husband and have a sweet sweet 3 year old. I live in Oregon and I'm a photographer.

My life has been far too limited from being overweight and I'm just tired of it. As I get older I'm getting more aches and pains that I know are aggravated by being overweight. I can lose weight, but I can never keep it off and I can never keep going long enough to reach my goal. I hope and I hope and I HOPE that the band will change this for me.

Since I have my own business the amount of $ that I can make for my family depends on the amount of energy that I have and lately I have none. I need it back!!

    Nice to meet everyone.

  2. Thank you SO much for the replies. I am still so miserable today and got very little sleep last night. Constantly coughing and up and down trying to blow my nose, etc.

I called my surgeon's office today and am waiting to hear back from them. I'll let you know what they say. At this point I'm hoping for a reschedule because I do not want to be worried that everytime I cough after the surgery that I'm going to ruin something.

Plus, breathing feels so heavy and hard right now, I worry about how it will go through surgery.

    Thanks again!

  3. Today is probably the worst but I have a horrible cold. My nose is stuffed up, my chest is tight, coughing feels like there are razor blades in my throat, I have a headache and overall, I'm just miserable.

I guess chances are good that I will be feeling better by Monday (surgery date), but I doubt that I will be 100% healthy by then.

Should I be concerned. Did anyone else go in with a cold?

  4. Dianne,

Yea we are on the same day! I go in a few minutes early the day of my surgery for the blood testing. I already did the psychologist, nurse anesthetist consultation, dr. consultation, and education class all done in one day.

I do not have to do a pre op diet but I am going to start one next week. I feel VERY ready! I doubt I'll be doing all liquid for 3 weeks though. My plan is liquid for Breakfast and lunch and sensible dinner. My dr. has us on 4 weeks of all liquid post op and that's bad enough!

  5. I think that we are unable to edit our posts here. So just cut the list, paste it in the message and add yourself. I added you Suebob!

  7. Hi all! I'm new to the November group. Originally I thought that my surgery would be in December, but I'm set for November 5th!

I am so excited! I really wish I could just have it done tomorrow and be on with it. I'm scared about living on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery but I'll survive.

Originally, I obsessed about all of the things that I would be giving up forever such as carbonated pop, bread, Pasta, etc etc...

....and then I thought to myself of all the things that I have been giving up in my life because I'm fat and would have to give up all of those things in my life forever if I stay fat.

For instance, I cannot go swimming with my son. I will never go swimming with my son while I'm fat. Do I want to give that up forever?

I cannot wear cute clothes. I would have to give up cute clothes forever.

So although I will have to give up certain foods/drinks forever, it's in exchange for getting back other things that I thought I had given up forever. It makes it easier to give up those things.

So, what did you give up in your life by being fat that you'll be able to get back once you lose your weight? :)

  8. Personally I would say don't tell them until they find out!

Well on the applications they do ask about surgeries and you do have to sign stating that you are being truthful and honest. I'm sure if even the slightest thing came up that they could blame on the surgery once finding out, they wouldn't cover it....or they may use that to not cover anything at all! Who knows!

I can still get coverage through the state medical pool program that is set up for people who are denied elsewhere but of course it is crappier insurance for more money.

  9. I am self employed and am in the midst of trying to purchase health insurance for my family.

I was denied due to my weight (coverage was offered for my husband and son).

So now I'm wondering, once I have the lap band surgery and lose the weight, will that help me to get health insurance for myself or will the fact that I had the surgery make me a high risk even if I am no longer high risk due to my weight.

Basically, am I damned either way?

Thanks for reading and any input.

  10. Glad to see that you are progressing along TheFox. I'm currently looking at a US Doctor that is about 4 hours from me. He does the surgery for $10,000 and that includes 3 fills. I would have to pay for the preliminary test myself though. All in all once you add up all the expenses of travel and what I would have to pay for fills if I went to Mexico, etc the cost difference would be about $500 - $1000 less to go to Mexico.

Now if I do it here in Oregon, my husband and son can come with me and I will only be away from them for a few hours instead of 4 days.

I would not have to stay in the hospital and could rest on my own and would then go back the next morning for a swallow test and could then go home to my own bed. Also, my husband would be doing all of the driving and I would not have to worry about riding with strangers and catching airplanes when I'm not feeling well after the surgery.

I just need to do further research on the doctor to make my final decision.

I'm also looking at pushing the surgery up to the end of November. I just want to get this done and over with.
