I'm doing pretty well. I'm still sleeping in the recliner but my back is starting to hurt from it so I hope I can get in my bed soon. I tried my bed last night and it just wasn't comfortable.
I still have quite a bit of port pain but not as painful as before. I can get up and down without holding a pillow to it or feeling like I'm going to rip it out.
All bodily functions are working normally as of yesterday if you get what I mean...
I'm down just over 6 pounds since surgery day. I wish I could say that I'm not hungry but I do have hunger. I also have had some gas. It's not painful, just uncomfortable at times. Walking gets rid of it just fine.
I do feel like I have a bowling ball in my tummy. It just feels bloated and heavy. I'm looking forward to that feeling going away.
Any others want to check in. :girl_hug:

I'm waiting for my actitrainer. :girl_hug:

Mmmm....I love hummus. I always ate it with a pita though. It does taste good with cucumbers!

Congrats on your weight loss, Wendy!!

Good luck with your surgery!
I had my surgery at 11am and was leaving the surgery center around 2pm. They make sure you are feeling ok and can swallow, etc before they send you out.
-
I had Isopure, but my food list allows liquids but it doesn't have to be clear so I could have a slimfast if I wanted to. I'm on 4 weeks of liquids but there was no distinction made for clears. The list of what I can have for 4 weeks is very short though.
I forgot to mention that I have gained 4 pounds since the morning of my surgery. I know it's not "real" weight gain as I have hardly had any calories at all for days now. It's still weird to see the scale go up.
-
How is everyone doing?
I slept great in the recliner last night. I only woke up once when it was time for another dose of Tylenol.
I also have some gas today. I feel quite bloated but at least the gas is coming out. I tried some malox strips so hopefully that will help.
I still feel like I'm doing pretty well.

My port spot hurts a lot whenever I have to stand up or sit down. when I'm just sitting still, I'm fine.
Have you done any strenuous lifting? If not, I wouldn't worry about it moving around.
When I stand up, I hold a pillow to my stomach over the port spot and that seems to help.
-
Did you have much pain when you woke up from the procedure? When I first woke up, I had pain at my port incision. I remember telling her that it hurt. She asked me what level of pain it was on a scale of 1 - 10 and I said a 4. I was pretty much still out of it, but I think it was probably an accurate reading for myself. It was just that initial waking up where you think ... owwwie, oh yea! I just had surgery. haha! But when asked to put it on a scale, you realize it doesn't hurt THAT bad. For me, I hurt worse now than I did then. Getting up out of chairs, out of bed, etc is painful.

The only one who knows is my husband. I have a very supportive family and I'm sure they would not make negative comments and would only be supportive. Having said that, I just don't feel like answering the questions or having people watch what I am or am not eating, or watching my progress, etc.
Will I change my mind in the future about telling people? I don't know. For now though, I knew if I told anyone, they would surely tell someone else because people have a hard time keeping secrets.
There were times when it was almost impossible for me to keep this secret myself and wanted to tell people. I'm surprised that I didn't.
I think my surgery was at a great time. It was right after Thanksgiving and I will be on mushies by the time Christmas comes and after that, I probably won't see most of them consistently enough for them to see what I'm doing. Hopefully they will just see the new me and be happy.

I see your weightloss in your ticker? You must have figured it out!
I'm doing ok on the liquid diet. I'm not one of the lucky ones who is not hungry as I was hungry almost right away.
In a few days I can have cream Soups and malto meal and I think I could live on those. hehe! I also like the broths. I'm going to get some unflavored Protein powder to add to things and that should make it easy enough to get in the protein...I hope!

I'm glad everything went well for you, Melissa.
As long as I am sitting still I'm fine, but standing up or sitting down or laying down is PAINFUL. I'm sure it will get better with time.
I also had these little pains inside that felt like my stomach was growling in hunger. I had two Protein shakes today, two servings of broth and a decent amount of Water. I tried some Isopure and that wasn't too bad. I'm going out to get some Protein powder tomorrow. Well...maybe my husband is.
Thanks for the medication idea, Debbie. I have been lucky so far with no more headaches. I think I'll call the office tomorrow though and see if we are allowed to have caffeine. It seems like everyone gets different answers on this.
I hope everyone gets a good night's sleep tonight! I was resting in the recliner, since my bed is too high for me to comfortably get up into it.

When I was out of surgery, I looked at my tummy and I had 4 incisions going straight across and I thought there was supposed to be 5. This is embarrassing but I have large breasts that "hang" when not in a bra. When I lifted one breast, I found the 5th incision. On top that, when I'm sitting down, my breast not only covers that one that is all the way underneath it but it also sits on the port incision.
Being that this is only 2 days out from surgery, I cringe at the thought of putting a bra on, but maybe I should keep one on at all times to try to keep them above the incisions? Or will this not matter.
Thanks!

I know that the main thing that turned me off about the body bug was that there was no heart rate monitor. So now I'm very interested in the actitrainer.

I was not scared, but if you are really scared when you get there, they will give you something to relax and help you to feel better.
Don't forget to check in aftewards to let us know how it went!

I'm glad to hear that it is all going well for you!
It is an adjustment to learn to drink slower, but also not to swallow air while drinking. I found that to be somewhat difficult.
Congrats on your weight loss!

Wow lucky you two only having liquids for less than 2 weeks. I'm on liquids for 4 weeks!!! Oh well, I guess it will help me to lose a lot of weight...I hope!

Hi Debbie,
I'm sorry you had such a hard time with the anesthesia! It sounds like it was miserable and I hope that you are feeling better today.
I was feeling so good after surgery but it didn't keep going perfectly. I woke up at 1am with a horrible terrible Migraine. I think it was from caffeine withdrawl. I always get debilitating Migraines if I go off the caffeine for more than 24 hours. Well the migraine brought on some nausea. I couldn't even more around in bed or I would feel like I was going to throw up. I took deep breaths and my husband brought me a washcloth for my face. I was on the Lortab elixir and wasn't feeling much pain on my tummy, etc but it was NOT working on this headache. Finally at about 6:30 am, I could not hold it back any longer and I threw up a little bit.
My husband called the doctor to see what I should do because I didn't know how I was going to make it to my esophogram appointment at 8:30 if I still felt this way. He told me that I could take some ibuprofen with lots of Water. I was not supposed to have anything at all from 4:45 am through to my appointment but he ok'd it.
As soon as the ibuprofen kicked in, the headache went away and I have not felt the nausea again thank goodness.
I had the esphogram this morning and everything looked good. My doctor came over to the hospital from his clinic to check on me and I was doing just fine by then. I could see on the monitor my little pouch and the barium going through it. It was weird to see.
All night long I was dreaming about FOOD!! I have never had dreams about food. I kept dreaming that I would forget about my band and eat all sorts of bad food. haha!!
Directly after the appointment I drank a Protein drink. I had not have any calories for over 40 hours!!!!
We then made the 4 hour drive home and I'm home relaxing with a nice warm cup of chicken broth.
Now I'm on liquids only for 4 weeks!!! eeek!! :omg:
I hope others check in too to keep us updated!

Hey all! The deed is done!! I arrived at the surgery center at 9:15. I signed my papers, had final blood labs completed, and was preped for surgery. By 10:30 I was ready to go. I was not nervous or scared at all...seriously. They asked if I wanted a sedative while I waited and I said no and just sat reading a magazine for a little by. At 11:00, they wheeled me back. They said they were going to give me something to help me relax and that was it, I was out. They woke me up about 5 after 1 and I was on my way home at 2pm. I was sitting up, dressed myself, driving Water and ready to go. I came back to the hotel (was banded 4 hours away from home) and my whole family took a nap until about 5 when I got up and walked around a little bit and took some more pain med. The only pain that I have whatsoever right now is where the port is and even then the only time it hurts is when I'm trying to stand up or sit down. Even then, it's totally manageable.
I had zero nausea, I have not had any gas pains (although my tummy is a bit distended).
My throat is scratchy and it sounds bad when I talk but it doesn't hurt.
Did I mention that I was able to sleep on my side? (the non port side) and actually slept and was quite comfortable with several pillows all around me.
I'm sitting right up typing on my laptop with no problems.
I could not be any happier right now about how I'm feeling.
I hope everyone else is doing just as well!!!

I added myself to the list below on the 26th. I was scheduled for the 5th but was rescheduled.

Welcome and nice to meet you! Did you have any pretreatment for nausea such as the patch the night before?
I'm hoping that will help me to avoid that.

I was banded on the same day as you and am also very hungry. I would not suggest that you eat meat or crackers. I am on liquid diet for 4 weeks to make sure that the band heals. Try to choose liquids with high Protein content or add some Protein Powder to broth, etc. That seems to be helping me with my hunger.
