  1. Nsv: My wedding rings are loose and almost fell off when I washed my hands! Haven't got on the scale yet but that has to be a good sign!
  2. Day 5: my husband went back to work and walking our daughter to the bus stop made for a first (puny) bm! I got about three hours of work from home done and now I am exhausted and getting ready for a nap. Today I've gotten in 16 oz protein shake w half dose of miralax; 8 oz of chicken broth blended with a can of chicken chunk meat; 12 oz of ice tea. My barriers to getting back to "normal" are still needing half-doses of pain meds about twice a day, needing one or two short naps a day, and wearing any sort of pants or skirts with a waistband painful to my incisions which are only 1/2" above my waistfold and have 4" bruises around each one. I'm starting to feel bad for taking so much time off so I'm hoping things move along here.
  3. I have the breather and I've been doing it about four or five times a day, not hourly as suggested. Today Day 4 for me I'm supposed to move to full liquids but I'm going to stay on clear today. Overnight I forgot to take my pain medicine before I went to sleep and I also tried to sleep in bed instead of the recliner. I rolled all over like an alligator, including sleeping on my stomach, and I am soooo sore on my incisions this morning. First time I don't feel better the next day. Hopefully the pain meds will knock it out and the day will end up good. I'm getting vitamins and one protein drink in but still only like 40 oz of liquid total. Time to step it up!
  4. I'm getting in 2 half mile walks around the neighborhood and I'm also doing the steps in my 3level townhouse about four times a day. I feel like I could/should do more but it has significantly helped the gas.
  5. I have been dreaming about solid foods every time I close my eyes. I look at it as the addiction breaking. When I'm awake, I didn't crave the good my husband cooked for him and the little one (Chinese stir fry) My husband got sleeved last year in October and I am now the fifth person in our family who has gotten wls. Watching the others go first, I'll tell you I'm grateful they were the trailblazers who had to bring their own food to holidays and redirect the family to celebrate in non-food ways for birthdays etc. Just set your own boundaries! And try to have a little grace for those who you're their "first" person they know who have done it. When you're rocking a 25 bmi, there will be an I told you so! Moment.
  6. Hi everyone as of Friday I'm sleeved! The pain was pretty bad for me. Also my nurses switched my pain meds from dialaudid to 2 Vicodin pills. I've vomited everyday so far, sometime pus/slime sometimes just big gas pockets. I was sent home yesterday late, so late we had to go to three pharmacies to find one that was open. I tried to sleep in the bed but had to change to the recliner around 3am. The scopolamine patch made me dizzy and blurry vision so I took it off since I was sicking up anyways.
  7. I've got my IV in, I'm waiting for the next step. I was unlucky and had to put it in my dominant hand. No crocheting in my room for me!
  8. I'm on my way into the hospital and I know I'm forgetting something but can't put my finger on it. Nerves are making me head hungry. Thanks to all who posted status updates over the past few days. Reading them is one way I'm calming down. If anyone has found a great way to spice up clear liquids, let me know!
  9. Hi everyone, I'm 31 and TTC 4 years. I have only had a dozen periods on my own without bc over my entire life period. I was feeling good last year when I lost about 30 lbs going vegan and I got 4 months in a row but then I stalled as soon as I gained a bit back. In prep for my vsg (I go in tomorrow morning) I had a bunch of delays from my ins company, which caused me to be on my preop diet of 50 carbs or less per day for over 2 months. And it caused my cycles to get kickstarted back up again including ovulation and a "normal" period 4 weeks ago. Now my biggest problem is worrying whether or not AF will come while i'm in the hospital this weekend I read a really good article about wls and pcps that contributed to my decision to pursue this as the primary means to grow our family. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3334389/ Long and short of it, wls generally works in alleviating pcos symptoms! (facial hair to a lesser extent, but hey I'll take it) And it helped that the fertility doctors told me, no way are we going to do iui or ivf at your bmi! Lose weight. So now that's what I'm going to do and this time, for life!
  10. I know where you're coming from! I was a Spouse of Sleever last October when my husband went in on our anniversary. due in large part to his journey and success in losing 100lbs, I have decided to get vsg also and I'm getting sleeved this Friday May 30! Advice as you walk with your husband that I got and was grateful for: On the preop liquid diet, budget and make emotional allowances to accommodate a "I'm sick of this shake I'm going to the store to get something different." That happened a lot for us and it was frustrating to me to see him make a fuss when to me "liquid is liquid" Also if he likes Jerky, pick some up for him to suck/chew on and spit out without swallowing. This ended up being a secret weapon for both of us. At the hospital, your part in his success is huge! Not just being there for emotional support but acting as a nurse liaison in getting anything from ice chips to pain meds to recording what medicine was given and when. You will also see his progress/symptoms more pronounced than what they will checking in on him periodically. After surgery be prepared to go clothes shopping monthly. And be prepared for the family's meal times to change. My husband started eating in a separate area to keep from being overcome with head hunger and ending up puking. Also be prepared to at least cook starched separately, if at all. I know that's a lot and I hope some of it helps your family's journey towards a healthier husband!

    May 28 - 31st sleevers?

For the first time in my life, I just got full on broth and water. I feel sloshy inside but it's not as unbearable as I imagined. Does anyone have any tips/tricks for what to take to the hospital/for the stay? I read the general post and I'm planning on taking chapstick and a pillow to hold against me…. If you think of anything shout it out! Praying for great news from our 27'ers today. Today is the first day of your new life Congrats!

    May 28 - 31st sleevers?

Hi everyone. My first name is Dev and as of this morning I'm at 279. Preop is getting the ball rolling pretty good! I'm also thinking about the best way to approach size staging, like if I should buy ahead a few sizes and how much. Hard to think by fall we'll be down a few sizes already, especially you guys out there.

    May 28 - 31st sleevers?

Hi everyone! I'm going in Friday 30th in Washington, D.C. I start liquids a little later than some, on Tuesday. Has anyone found good tricks or recipes for this leg of the journey? The stuff I'm looking forward to most is being able to shop in any store I want, wearing normal necklaces, watches, boots and bracelets. Also fitting in airplane seats, compact rental cars, booths at restaurants and carnival rides. And more than anything having tons more energy and not turning diabetic or having other health problems. What about you?

    May 30th anyone?

Hi ladies, Sorry for the delay in checking in. We are traveling 4 hours to visit my parents for the long weekend. I hear what you're saying about the wedding. In April I had both my husband and his daughters birthday parties, with cake. It was tough but I kept telling myself you can't fool your liver or explain why you need it not to swell up and expect it to listen! Yes my husbands weight loss was a major factor in my decision. He never pushed me to get survey but after a few months he did say, "your miserable being big, I was too and I did something about it. You don't have to get surgery but you do have to do something if you expect things to get better." It was my birthday yesterday and as my gift I got the house cleaned by a service so that was an unexpected hooray. I live near Washington, D.C. And I chose the same hospital and dr as my husband and his cousin had used. I also saw the other link for folks getting done this week and it's some more good dialogue. Hope you both have a great long weekend!
  17. When my 6 year old girl said, all within about a week... Mommy you're pretty even though you're fat. Mommy I love you even though you're chunky but funky. (funny now, not then) When am I going to have a baby brother or sister? PCOS makes us require IVF but my BMI is too high for IVF. I could be strong and take it from adults but not from her. Here's to a life of no more "even though"s!

    May 30th anyone?

Hi Ladies, I am also scheduled for May 30th at my local hospital. I'm excited and nervous. My preop diet has been a real experience in low carbing (<50 carbs, solids ok). My surgeons assistant recommended I start the preop diet when we first submitted my paperwork so that when it came back approved we wouldn't need additional delay to set a surgery date. Well, two rejections and 6 weeks later, I was going berserk. Once we got the approval, my surgeon was on vacation for a week and we finally landed on May 30th. As of now I've been on <50 carbs since April 1st. I will have to switch to liquids only on Monday. On Vitamins, my husband who had vsg last Oct has really liked the Centrum adult chewables. My dr recommended Bariactiv which is a specialty Vitamin until i'm able to eat solids again, then I'm open to any good one with Iron. On weight, I topped out at 309 a few years ago and have been losing the same 50 lbs again and again ever since. The last time I was 150, my goal, I was 10 years old. I have no idea what to expect but I know it's gonna be amazing. Are you preparing anything special to take with you to the hospital? Doing anything special around the house to get ready?
  19. I'm still pre-op 1 week out. My biggest concerns from talking to others and watching my husband (he's 90lbs down from 10/23/13 VSG on our anniversary) are 1. addiction transfer and 2. not knowing how to respond to sexual attention from others. Both of them come down to the fact that my weight and eating have acted as a barrier, emotionally keeping people at a distance and me feeling safe. With the weight loss, I'm going to have to step out of my comfort zone big time, work on emotionally maturing and seek support from others to make sure I don't develop other unhealthy habits and reactions to compensate/fill the void. Good luck on your journey and see you on the losers bench!
