  1. Be careful with the no fat 'fruit' ones because they typically have a ton of sugar in them. I just flavour them myself. At your stage you can sprinkle some Crystal Light crystals (if you are okay with aspartame) in any flavour. Once you've moved up the food chain you can add your own fresh fruit, frozen fruits and for sweetener I use Steevia as Splenda and Aspartame etc are garbage.
  2. Oh and because I went out of country I can write my surgery and hospital stay off on my tax return I'll likely see at least 1/2 of it back.
  3. I'm in BC and the wait is minimum 3-5 years. And the only people getting it between 3-5 years are the extremely obese, lots of related health issues (i.e. heart conditions, diabetes, blood pressure etc). So being that I'm considered a "healthy fat" person, I'd be up over the 5 year wait. I was not willing to wait over 5 years to have it done free, no way. There was also the option here of paying for it privately but it costs $17,000 to 20,000. Why would I pay that when in Mexico I paid a quarter of that?! Crazy. And when I got back and needed follow up care, I was totally paranoid of telling my family doctor. But she was SUPER supportive and in fact she's vented about her own frustrations with the wait for her other patients and was asking me information about my surgeon in Mexico so she can suggest other patients look into it. LOL! You are very lucky in Alberta if the wait is only 1-2 years. I may have waited for that. Apparently in NFLD is like a 10 year wait?!
  4. I'm 9 weeks out as well and I've had some minor bouts of nausea but I found it was usually Vitamin related. So if I take any of my supplements on an empty stomach...GAG! Are you taking any by any chance and are you taking with food? also, your doc will likely prescribe you an anti acid reducer. I take 2 pills a day of Omprezole. I tried going off at 2 months post op and it was the longest week of my life...HORRIBLE. I had no appetite, perma-heart burn....it sucked. Took 2 Omprezole once I refilled my prescription and was good to go again literally within an hour. Sounds like doc visit is in your cards for sure, won't hurt.

How soon did you return to work?

I think everyone heals differently, I couldn't imagine taking a month plus off?! I would've gone mental. But I do work an office job so that makes a difference. I had my surgery Thursday April 17th in Mexico, flew home on Sunday. I was back at my desk on Tuesday morning and I would've been back on Monday but it was a long weekend. LOL! I brought my heating pad and used it for 2-3 days for maybe an hour if I felt achy but I never took or needed any painkillers once I left the hospital. had no issues with energy etc and life went on as normal.

    Itching belly from stitches

Mine were glued and they drove me bonkers!! I found keeping them well moisturized several times a day helped a lot with the itching. Even 9 weeks out I have days where they still itch but I think that's probably more internal healing now.

    Full too fast?

Your still just out of surgery so definitely your stomach would be swollen still. I am 9 weeks out today and yesterday was the first day I noticed that I could finally get more food in than previously (i.e. previously I could maybe eat 1/4 cup of chili and yesterday I could eat 1/2 cup). So my swelling is likely gone or almost gone. Just stick to easy things like greek yogurt, Protein shakes, Soups etc. so that your stomach heals fast. I found it hard to get my liquids in at first too, just keep sipping! I felt like I constantly had a glass in my hand or lips for the 1st month. I can now take pretty big swigs of Water and on the days where water just isn't working for me I add the water flavour drops.
  8. I'm 9 weeks out today and my meal sizes are still pretty small. I have zero hunger, like I mean I am never hungry and pretty much force myself to eat. The only way I know my body is hungry is that I find myself yawning or I just start not feeling great. I have gotten really good at reading the signs my body is showing me, because I do not get any brain signal of hunger anymore. I would prefer to just have 3 meals per day but in order to get my Protein quantities in I have to eat more like 4-5 times/day. I drink a 1-1/2 scoop protein shake for Breakfast (with a bunch of things added i.e. green powder etc), mid morning I have a small snack (i.e. 1/2 cup of greek yogurt), lunch would be maybe 1/2 cup chili, dinner maybe 2-3oz of meat and maybe 1-2 pieces of veggie (i.e. steamed broccoli). If I can I will try and eat a small piece of turkey pepperoni or turkey Jerky in the afternoons. That's it, I'm lucky if I hit 800 calories in a day, it's typically more like 600-700. I rarely have room for veggies or fruit which I miss ALOT but protein is obviously the priority. I add an organic greens powder to my morning shake to try and compensate for the deficiency.
  9. I just had my first experience with the revisit last week and It totally took me by surprise. I'm 9 weeks PO and have had zero food issues, have ben able to eat pretty much anything within my 'allowances' etc. Ate 2 oz of lean pork chop for dinner, 5 minutes later I was running for the washroom. Weirdest feeling ever and I didn't see it coming at all. Needless to say, me and pork chops will not be friends for awhile. lol!

    Pain Meds

I was sent home with them but never needed any. I took Gas-X for days 2 and 3 but that was it.
  11. Hey everyone! I am 3 days out and heading home to Canada tomorrow. I basically got zero info on aftercare requirements from my surgeon / coordinator. He mentioned that I will need to have blood work done every 4 months for 5 years but nothing about Vitamin supplements or exactly how often. I should see my family doc etc. I didn't ask these questions because when I asked him if he would go over post op care and diet I was assured yes so figured we would cover that then. Then they handed me a bunch of paper today and once I got to our hotel I went to read over it only to realize it doesn't tell me anything. Can anyone explain to me what I should/ will need to do and take. I have chewable adult Vitamins but not sure on dose and if there are other things I should be taking. Diet I can pretty much figure out from this great forum. Thank you!
  12. Thanks Jackarae but when I contacted their office I was sent all of the aftercare information right away. I guess the new coordinator didn't tell me that, amoung a lot of other things LOL! So I am good to go now.
  13. Unfortunately Fabi was off and Cece was away, I got a new coordinator who just hasn't been trained. She was sweet/nice but too new and just didn't have answers etc. Apparently they email me my aftercare after week 1 but the new girl didn't tell me. Fabi has been very helpful for sure and Dr Ramos Kelly was super professional. Guess that's what happens when you get sleeved over a holiday weekend Yes the leak test juice was nasty!! I am only 4 days post op, no nausea, no pain and got all my liquids in today including 70+ grams of Protein. So super stoked that (knock on wood) this path continues .
  14. Thanks Stacy, I have emailed the surgeons coordinator and asked if perhaps they just missed giving it to me. I will wait for their reply and if nothing. I will take you up on your offer . I did a ton of research and thought I had made a good choice with Dr Ramos Kelly but apparently not so much. He was professional and seemed very competent but his coordinators are a total sh#tshow, they were late twice, totally disorganized and not well trained/informed. So I'm guessing based on all the good things I've read about him this lack of info falls back on his coordinators.

    April sleevers in mexico

Had my surgery last night, bit of pain afterwards but they quickly dealt with it. No nausea either. Feeling better today, up and about having a shower and walking my room and the halls so no pain with the exception of just dealing with the gas pain. Mine keeps moving from lower to upper abdomen. Glad I read these boards and brought my heating pad, it really helps. Glad I brought my hubby too because I don't know a lick of Spanish and the nurses don't speak English at all, he's my translator haha! The beginning of my new journey, looking forward to it!
