  1. Below is Friday's menu, which was very typical of what I eat now that I'm 20.5 months post-op. (Yesterday was date night and not a typical menu.) Anyway ... Friday:

    Breakfast:

    * GNC Lean shake 25 (Swiss chocolate)

    * Homemade skinny latte: 1/2 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup Starbucks espresso roast, 1 envelope Turbinado raw sugar

    Morning snack:

    * Doctor Kracker three seed cracker

    * 1 ounce sharp cheddar cheese

    * 2 tablespoons Smuckers sugar-free strawberry jam

    Lunch:

    * Ham and cheese sandwich: Oscar Mayer Black Forest ham (5 slices); 1 ounce sharp cheddar cheese; 2 tablespoons Hellman's Lite Mayo; 1 medium sliced tomato; 2 leaves of Romaine lettuce

    * 1/2 cup petite carrots

    Afternoon snack:

    * Starbucks coffee - 6 ounces

    * 1 tablespoon half and half

    * 1 Specially Selected (Aldi's) salted caramel biscotti

    Cocktail Hour:

    * 1.5 ounces single malt scotch (was Aultmore that day)

    Dinner:

    * Stouffer's Fit Kitchen Steak Fajita (first time I'd tried one of these; not bad!)

    * 2 cups Romaine lettuce hearts

    * 1 tablespoon Litehouse chunky blue cheese dressing

    After Dinner:

    * Caltrate chewable (chocolate truffle)

    * Dannon Oikos vanilla greek yogurt

    * 2 small squares of Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt

    Macronutrient Totals:

    Calories - 1,700

    Carb grams - 174

    Fat grams - 64

    Protein grams - 101

    Sugars - 72

    Fiber grams - 26 (minimums for women are 21-25)

    Just saw the commercial about the fit kitchen meals, hope I can find them in my rural area!

  2. I'm a fairly private person. My family and close friends (very few by the way) know, but I don't have a large family and don't see them often. I live in a very small town so I'm sure it's gotten around although I don't socialize much and keep to my self. If it's someone I don't know well that comments about my weight, I just say thank you. If it's another over weight person or acquaintance from back when our kids were in school, I may go ahead and tell them that I had surgery.

    I do have to admit though at 18 months out, I'm not near as gun shy to talk about it. I'm not one of those BIG success stories either though. I am happy about what I have lost though!

  3. so I am trying my best to get back to my healthy habits, trying to be active everyday, and eat only what my body needs not just whatever the hell I want.

    I was so happy at 135lbs I loved how my body felt, I am now at 150 and I can tell my honeymoon phase is long gone, trying to loose these 15lbs has been harder than the 115lbs. at least that is how it feels right now.

    Hope you all are feeling healthy and on track.

    Well the lowest I got was around 162, unfortunately I'm at 172 now. Gotta Gotta get back on track. We've been purging our house of 18 years to live in a camper for 4 months while they build us a new house. Stressful!! We are settled in our camper now and not much stuff to do in there, so hopefully I'll get back on track with exercising and quit the stress eating!

  4. How is everyone doing. It seems that we have all hit a plateau in some way. I actually went exercising in the mountains yesterday. It felt great to get ou. I trek through the snow & mud with my trusty dachshund. I know I have gained weight but the scale says I am 5.8 pounds over my lowest weight. I feel more like 50 pounds. It's weird to because in the mirror I see a huge belly & fat arms. I realize more & more everyday that my mind is my worse enemy. Would love to hear how everyone is holding out.

    Well...I have gained 5 pounds. I'm at 170 now. Kinda discouraging when I see how well everyone else has done. I can eat almost anything without trouble, which is not a good thing. Just yesterday, I refocused and with warmer weather I can start walking outside again! Pepsi....my nemesis! Started out occasionally as a treat and then moved up to several times a week. NO MORE! Got to remember how much I've paid financially and emotionally for this!

  5. Hi everyone. I hope you are all doing well. I'm still on a stall. 4 months now.

    I just saw this, I have been stalled for about 4 months as well. Cold weather has stopped my exercise and I can eat "anything" now not a lot but I bet more than most people who have had bypass. I know it's a choice that I have to make, and I'm trying hard to get back on track. I was eating 900 calories and my nut told me to try 1200 so I'm doing that.

  6. Well my tush fell to my thighs! Lol! I'm stuck at 165 but have to be honest, haven't been being perfect everyday. And honestly if it wasn't for my big belly (where I'm sure the 25 more I need to lose is) I'm satisfied at being a size 12ish. Don't need to be a tiny hiny.

  7. @@brown eyed gal, When you say you only have sugar related issues. What are your symptoms? It could be dumping but you feel it more with sugar.

    I have never thrown up but I have had symptoms of dumping. Light headed, weak, heart palpations, dizzy nauseous, have to lay down. It has been caused by; grilled onions (damn fat), eating too fast even if it is a super healthy meal, sugar, and caffeine.

    I hope you figure out what causes it and are able to replace it with something.

    Well actually, I have had exactly what you are saying except because I haven't had to lay down (because I was at work). Thank you, I have never paid a lot of attention to sugar issues and always thought dumping was "just" throwing up and diarrhea. Thank you! Funny thing is earlier in this journey, I ate a couple of donuts, no problems at all. I have read that things can change on you though!

  8. @@brown eyed gal--Maybe onions grilled in butter? I cannot do butter at all. :unsure:

    I had a business meeting for lunch today, at pizza Hut. UGH....I had a salad from their buffet--lettuce was brown. Had ranch dressing because the rest of the dressing looked like they had a film on top of them. YUCK. Ate one super skinny piece of sausage/mushroom pizza. Stomachache within 10 minutes of eating. I knew it was going to happen. I didn't throw up. Just did some deep breathing with my peppermint oil and it passed in about 20 minutes.

    I'm not sure about the butter, guess I haven't cooked anything in butter myself other than a grilled cheese and handled that fine a few months ago. I do not "dump" as far as throw up or have an upset stomach. My only symptoms have been what I would think are sugar related issues.

  9. With our new tummies and insides things hit us stronger and often will drop faster. I know if I even have me BIG TREAT of a fiber one Brownie (8g sugar) and I eat it too fast I get sick. I only have them if I have had a large amount of Protein first to help carry the sugars in my body. I know my body does not NEED it for nutrition so I try to only have them once in a blue moon and now that I have found Quest I stick to those more. But even eating the Fiber one to fast can make me sick.

    It has been 8 months and I am still having to drill in to my brain to only eat for nutrition as much as possible. The mental part of the journey is so hard!!

    Well I just came from lunch and ate grilled chicken, guacamole, grilled onions and feel light headed, it's crazy!

  10. Gladiators, we definitely have to curtail the sweets. In my case, after I eat sugars, infeel crappy, and then sometimes a couple of hours later is when my bld sugar will drop I get shakey, sweaty, incoherent, weak.. very frightening. So, by sharing our stories.. it really does help the group.

    Maybe that's what happens to me my blood sugar drops, I'm not too versed in blood sugar, never had an issues before surgery.

  11. @@joankrie

    So happy for your weight loss. I am sure you feel like a different person. I do. Watch out for the blood sugar, as you say it's dangerous. Are you able to control it with food or your blood sugar level drops quickly?

    I have been in a weight stall for quite a while now. Well, I am not sure because I have not stepped on the scale for 2 weeks. It was like 177.2, 177.4, 177.3, 177.6, 177.2, 177.4 for day after day. What the heck! But I feel pretty good. I am making sure I eat more Protein. I did but it was more like 50 grams and I was told that's not enough. My hair is not falling like crazy. So happy about that. I don't get sick as much, only the occasional, eating too fast and not chewing enough. The other day I had too much cake and boy did I feel unwell. I felt so hot, my forehead and neck were dripping. Scary! I think I had a sugar high, not good at all.

    I'm about the same, stuck at 170. I normally can eat sugar but I had a piece of bakery cake a couple of weeks ago and I felt really bad too. Not dumping but I think high sugar.

  12. Hi Everyone... Glad to see everyone is moving forward. I'm back in Philly for a few days for doctor's appointments... Lab work is great. They even dropped my thyroid meds. On June 15, redoing a sleep study... I haven't used my CPAP in a month. Hopefully we can get rid of it.... Got to do as many doctors appointments as I can before my COBRA kicks in in August. When that happens, I'll probably switch to a cheap insurance which doesn't cover much.

    I haven't been using my CPAP every night and I sure would like to get rid of it but I don't want to go through the sleep study again! I have two insurance polices but the deductibles have both risen so much that I'm paying out the wazoo for that machine. Glad your blood work is good and they dropped your thyroid. I had blood drawn yesterday and go back next Friday for checkup. My weight loss has slowed way down so I'm trying to get stick again, I can eat most things just not a lot of it! We've had so much rain, I haven't walked outside in forever, I hate to use my treadmill....

  13. I'm 7 months out from bypass. I have no problem with carbonation (pain wise) I know I should not do it because of empty calories. I've drank as many as 6 low carb beers. I do not plan on doing this again for awhile as my weight loss has s l o w e d. Don't slap my hand, I've already done it to myself!

  14. It's really taking a lot of getting used to whem people tell me I look great lol. I mean, before, people would tell me I looked nice, or I'd get the "oh you have such a pretty face" stuff, or I'd be in weight watchers and losing a little bit here and there and people would say "are you losing weight? It's starting to show"...and I would always smile and say thank you, then crawl under a rock because I felt like they were just saying it to be nice. Now, any time I see someone that I don't see on an every day basis, they go crazy over how I look lol. It's kind of embarrassing! Can anyone relate??

    YES! I live a small town that I was not born in but have lived here for 28 years. Since my kids are grown, I rarely see people other than the 14 people that work in my building. I go to work and go home in the country. If I go shopping, it's usually out of town. So when I do run into people that haven't seen me since before starting this journey, I almost feel embarrassed, especially when they ask "how" I did it. I chose to only tell those I'm close to. Just this week I've told two people that I've been working on this since last June and I eat high Protein, low carb, low calorie and work out (which is the truth). I have had a couple of men look me over, I'm 56, and that makes me uncomfortable. Guess I'd better get used to it. I find myself not wearing real form fitting clothes. And I still have 25 pounds to go to get to my goal! lol!

  15. My scale is moving slow and I had bypass. I'm feeling a little timid about posting as so many are so much further. My B12 and Vitamin D are very low. I'm exhausted and waiting for this fog to lift.

    My scale is moving slower than yous! I also wish it would go faster but now that I've lost as much as I have I"m satisfied as long as it doesn't stop! I don't have the energy that everyone else raves about also. Hopefully it will come!
