    The Stall From Hell

    It's just the 3 week stall. You're not doing anything wrong. It happens to 99% of us, and you just really have to let it pass. You can try a few things to feel proactive, but it's gonna happen, and yes, it's gonna pass. Not one person I know has stopped losing weight at 3 weeks out! Stalls further out? Heck yeah you should be able to tweak some things to get the scale moving again. But this one is going to happen and not pass until your body is good and ready. Could be a week....could be 2. Could be 3. I know it feels like it, but it's not the end of the world. Work your program and stay off the scale and stop stressing! You know the stress hormone causes weight to hold on, also. Someone wise once said "Stalls are like lovers. Your first probably won't be your last"

    Small weight gain

    Because you aren't a daily weigher, you don't see the absolutely normal, natural fluctuations in weight that happen to everyone for various reasons.Let me give you the reasons I've seen my weight fluctuate not only in the past almost 2.5 years post op, but for most of my adult life: Everytime I travel, I gain a couple of pounds. Water retention. Hormone imbalances with water retention. Too much salt, so water retention Constipation (I think you can figure out what your body is retaining ) I am ALWAYS 2 pounds heavier in the evening. I am ALWAYS a heavier weight on my doctors scale than my own. All scales are different, so I record my weight on ONE scale only. When I've had a good workout or really start building muscle, I gain weight. When I don't eat enough, my body goes into starvation mode and stores glycogen, I gain weight. When I have too many clothes on from the last time I weighed, I weigh more. Get the picture? If you KNOW it's not because you're just eating too much or the wrong stuff, no worries. Chalk it up to one of those many, many reasons our bodies fluctuate in weight and keep doing what you're doing and it will correct itself in a couple of days.Really.

    Exercise works!

    Exercise is amazing for our hearts, keeping and building the muscle lost with the weight loss, but technically is only a small part of losing weight. It's actually 90% diet. I have seen many people have this surgery and lose without any exercise at all. That being said, I'm a huge advocate of exercise for the reasons mentioned above. At almost 50, I'm in the best shape of my life thanks to 2 years of steady exercise. I've also managed to reduce some sagging skin a bit. I also think exercise is more important during the maintenance phase to KEEP the weight off than it is during the losing phase.

  7. Meh. After almost 3 years on this forum, I'm used to it by now I so wanted the vets input and knowledge when I first started! I hung on their every word, even when they told me I didnt know what I was talking about. They are the reason I've been successful thus far. It honestly gets me a little misty eyed just to say that. It may be my tone. I'm not the most warm and fuzzy person, and it rubs people the wrong way sometimes. But I'm straight to the point, and that should at least be appreciated, darn it!
  8. Even with that little bump in the road, you have done a phenomenal job. You have the knowledge of a true vet, and I have no doubt you will get to where you want to be. Great post! Oh, and I was 2 years out last August I find myself doing the EXACT same stuff you've been doing! What's with that? Something about year 2/3 I always see in these forums. Must just be boredom/complacency? Someone once called it "Behavior Fatigue". I just have to find ways to keep my eye on the prize and stay motivated! We must always remain vigilant!

    Right?! I mean, NEVER is a long time for most of us. Like you said, we are all adults, and capable of figuring out what works FOR US. As long as someone is good and healed up and it's not adversely effecting their weight loss or being able to maintain the loss, do what works for you to live a post bariatric surgery life in a non friendly post bariatric surgery world.

    First of all, a sleeve is not a pouch. Second, carbonation does not stretch the sleeve. That's a myth. I drink carbonation and at over 2 years out, I have the same restriction I've had for a year. My surgeon and many others agree that a sleeve will not necessarily 'stretch'. And to the original question, no, you should not drink Coke, because Coke is filled with empty calories, which by far is worse than carbonation and the number one reason people regain. So there's that.
  14. Aside from the lifting restrictions, I could have easily unpacked and set up a house at a couple weeks out.. You'll be more than fine by then to do that.

    @@Teajayteejay I didn't have a drain after the sleeve, but due to an absess after a gall bladder surgery I had one for almost a month (yes, a MONTH). Aside from being a total pain in the butt, it's not too painful. And I showered with mine. You're going to be loving life when it finally comes out!

    Well, I don't know about your surgeon and hospital, but I was forced to get up and walk the halls every couple of hours the next morning after surgery. It really helps with the pain. I hope your knees aren't bothering you too much so you can get some walking in. But yeah, maybe the pain meds will minimize it a bit
  17. First of all, understand that the gain has absolutely NOTHING to do with what you're eating this early out. Your body is in starvation mode and storing glycogen, hence the gain. So stop sabotaging yourself! Second, this isn't a "diet" right now. It's not Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers. It's a PRESCRIPTION diet for surgery while you heal, so start treating it as such. Find a Protein you can drink, and make sure you're getting all your other fluids in, too, so you don't end up back in the hospital for dehydration. That's the most common reason for readmission. Keep working at following your prescription diet so you can heal up and get back to the business of losing weight and becoming healthy.

    In all seriousness though, walking is the best way to minimize the gas pain. Force yourself to walk!

    Too early. Let yourself heal first. And if the appetizer is a soft Protein like shrimp, little sausages or meatballs, I don't see why you couldn't have some?
