misslu58 got a reaction from skinnygirlwithin in medical bracelets for Sleevers?
I got a card that I keep in my wallet about the weight loss surgery with the hospital name and phone number....on the reverse side it says about the senior citizen meal or kids meal. I ordered a Bracelet off EBay that I wear that says gastric sleeve. They have many options on there for bracelets, necklaces, keychains, ankle bracelets, watches, etc.
My thought process of having something on my body is...what if I am in an accident and do not have my purse with me, or my purse is thrown away from my body... I want the medical personnel to have the knowledge right there on my person of the procedure I had done for safety purposes....

Good! I started the day after they called me (4/25), since it was less than 2 weeks to my date. They have me on a 4+1 plan, 4 shakes and one meal/day. Is that similar to what you guys are on? They gave me a handout with dinner suggestions, which really helps . My hardest time is at night if I'm watching TV, that's our biggest snack time. The dietician suggested sugar free Jello, which helps!
I was signed up for the post op diet instruction class on the day that is now my surgery date, so they are having me come in today to go over everything. I'm still in disbelief that my surgery is one week from tomorrow!!

I completed my 6 month requirement the 1st week of April & met my surgeon on Monday 4/21. Today I received the call from the surgeon's office saying I'm set to go! She asks "how's May 6th?" Seriously!! Less than 2 weeks. I start my preop diet today . I'm so excited, yet so nervous.

i just googled, and guess it's just a brand. I think someone should invent Protein pills, with high grams of protein. Hate those shakes, make me gag.

I had to switch half way through too. I did 4 months in one program & then switched to a new one. It was pretty seamless. They had all of the appointment notes, tests, etc from the first place so I just picked up where they left off & had my surgery scheduled after the first visit. I definitely didn't have to start the process over.
    Good luck to you!

Ugh.. "the easy way out" ... Have they even done ANY research on the surgery and what post-op is like?? Yeah, ok.. Getting most of your stomach removed, plus the pain after surgery, plus eating next to nothing for a few weeks, gradually eating more but healthy foods, exercising, counting calories, drinking 60+ grams Protein a day... YEP. That's TOTALLY the easy way out.
Sorry for the rant. I give you props for not lecturing her like I would have

misslu58 reacted to NMJG in No fluids with meals?
I used to drink 3-4 glasses of Water every meal. I thought this was going to be the hardest thing for me after WLS. But I got used to it and I don't even think about it anymore. I drink up to about 5-10 minutes before a meal and then wait about an hour afterwards. I've gotten to the point where I can feel if it's OK to start drinking again and most of the food has left the sleeve.
For me, if I drink with food or too soon afterwards I feel very nauseous and the liquid bubbles back up my esophagus. Believe, me, I am not tempted at all to drink with meals now. The worst of it is no wine with meals if we are at a nice restaurant. So if I am having wine, I have it early and make sure I'm done before the food comes. If there is any left I give it to someone else at the table. I tell the server to make sure my wine comes well before the food. If it doesn't get there until the food arrives, I send it back.
    I'm so high maintenance

misslu58 got a reaction from HumanMerelyBeing in THIS is how the first 4 weeks go...
I am at just shy of three weeks out.. and I can relate to this, except sleeping in the recliner. I only did that the first night home, then I slept in my own bed with lots of pillows around me.
The lost feeling and feeling like, what did I do, is certainly there. The doc and nutritionist reminded me last week that it was a major surgery I had done (plus I had my gallbladder that was full of stones out at the same time, so a double whammy).... They have promised me it will get better and in no time I will have my energy back. I keep doubting them, then think and remember after that first horrible night when I got sick from the anesthia and my nurse kept telling me that would end, I start believing this too will end and I will feel back to myself (and even better) in no time!

I agree that salad may not be the best choice to eat. It is harder for the stomach to digest and it is "empty" mostly in Protein. I would say, have a piece of pizza, but only the topping part, with the cheese... and maybe veggies... that would be your Protein

misslu58 got a reaction from SherB in MAJOR regrets
I am three weeks out today from having my surgery. I was so sick the first night I thought I was going to die, literally, I was throwing up brown dried blood. When the RN promised me that in the morning I would feel better, I growled at him... He was right. Then, I could not go home the day I should have due to (another) snow storm. I survived that extra night. The first night home, I slept in the recliner. Then I moved to my bed, sleeping on my side, but supported by pillows. I am finally able to ride in the car without too much discomfort -- bumps were tear jerkers for a while.
I still get nauseated almost everyday for a little while, but not nearly as bad as it was. I find that I feel hungry, starved, and then, I eat a little and it feels better, almost like I have eaten too much. I cannot get down Protein shakes anymore. I had a hard time after surgery getting down three a day, let alone the five they recommend. I did a lot of sugar free Jello, sf popsicles, and some chicken broth. Those were the things that got my Fluid intake up... seemed like I always had to have something to keep it up. I never did get up to the ful 64 oz... and am having an even harder time now that I have "food" (the soft food diet).
While at home, I hated watching television. I never realized before how many commercials are for food and how many shows have someone eating or food sitting out.
Your hair would be falling out partly because of the lack of Protein. Kellogg does have a protein that can be mixed in Water... It is only 5 grams, but it is better than no protein. Your hair may also be having some after effects from the anesthia and the hormonal changes. That happened to my daughter, she lost a lot of her hair after a surgery she had when she was 12!
I know how you are stuggling... it is an awful feeling. I would suggest that you call your surgeon's office and ask about the depression. They can help with that if the Zolofot is not working...different med may help or even changing the dosage. Also, get some antiacid stuff from them. It makes it a little easier for the fluids also.... that can be part of the feeling that something is weighing down on your chest
Best of luck...and in two weeks, you will feel somewhat more human (I know since I am at 3 weeks today)

Yeah, I dont feel like I have much energy either. Surgery 3/20. I dont want to do anything. I am tired. I am doing better. Back to work. But when I get home, I just want to watch TV. I feel done. I am not working out or walking yet, No carbs at all, unless there in yogurt (yes there is some) but I am hungry and tired. UGH!

I can see how as the weeks go by it would be so easy to "forget" our tummies are not the same and try to do something the old us would do. I am three weeks today......last night, I was starving!!!! All I could think about was going out to eat and having a salad and a piece of grilled chicken. Healthy choices.....but not allowed for a 3 weeker
The mental part of all this is so much more than I could have ever imagined. No regrets!

How far post op are you? Are you on BP meds?

I would have someone take you to the ER. Passing out is not normal. And never feel bad about contacting your doctor no matter how many issues - that is what they are there for (and get paid what they do )
