    post removal diet?

I'm a vegetarian so meat won't be added at any time. Im thinking yogurts & cheese & beans soon. But I'm just a bit cautious of foods still, as I dont want to vomit or have my stomach hurt. And very concerned about gaining weight. So I'm going to start using myfitness pal to track things and stick to it. Right now no exercise, just walking as much as I can. My surgeon wasn't very detailed about things and I didn't see him post op. Hoping to get the details on Thursday.

    Removal in 10 days

Since I had emergency removal I didn't have a pre-op diet. I did have egg whites a week before removal but that was they only solid thing I'd had in weeks. I definitely was not getting in enough protein and my bloodwork from the ER showed it all. I'm close to 43 hours post op. Still struggling to get in protein, im on clear liquids so no shakes for me.

    no more band

Last night my band was removed, after a few painful months that ended in pain for 3 days straight. Even Water hurt. So I'm home and it hurts to swallow. I had trouble swallowing pills at the hospital. It turns out my ulvula was damaged-most likely from the anesthesia. Its actuslly laying on the back of my tongue. Has this happened to anyone? The hospital my surgeon operates out of is an hour and a half away. So I dont want to head back there. Should I put a call into his office?

    no more band

My band was placed in 2007. It slipped in 2011 (fill removed and I was on protonix) everything seemed fine. Then in January I started having pain. So I cut out splenda and wheat thinking those could be the culprits. I also cut back to one cup of coffee a day , instead of my usual 3. Still having pain, a few trips to the ER, a course of protonix, CT scan. Then the last few weeks I stopped tolerating solids. I would get pain about 30 min after eating & it would last for hours. Then on Tuesday I had a protein shake and was un pain afterwards- which lasted until removal on Thursday. The ER did an upper gi which showed a slippage with major trapped gas. But no blockages. And no restriction- the contrast went thru easily. So they took the remaining fluid out of my band & sent me home on pain meds. The meds did nothing for the pain. Water hurt to drink. The next day I was back in the ER- and my orginal surgeon removed the band. The only pain I have now is my throat & one incision site- where my port was. And thankfully I can tolerate water, apple juice and ice chips- the only issue being choking from my uvula. I started at 350 before my band and am about 215 now. I did go as low as 160- when I had my first slip as nothing was going down. I have 3 months until a revision surgery- this time the band is not an option. I still have to find out if my insurance covers revisions & jump thru those hoops. My surgeon requires a 3 month healing period/ resting period.

    removal

So I'm on my way to the hospital for an emergency removal. After 6 years and 7 months of banding. It's a case of a second slip ( 1st was march 2011). Sad to loose my band, but looking forward to not being in constant pain.

    removal

I already feel a great deal better with it out. The pain from the slip is gone. Now I just have surgery site pain. Having surgery at 215 pounds is so much easier than 350 pounds. I know im going to miss my band after almost 7 yrs it was a part of me. Still have to discuss my conversion options with the Dr. Thanks for the well wishes.
  8. Call your doctor immediately, it sounds like you NEED an unfill. Explain to them how many times you've vomited, and see if they'll check you for a slip. Your stomach needs to rest, my doctor recommends liquids after any vomiting for a few days.
  9. Same as last week at 215. Although I did have a back procedure, so I the scale didn't move.
  10. I LOVE PB2. I can't seem to find it in stores around here so I order mine on Amazon. It's perfect in plain greek yogurt. 1 spoonful does it.

    Fill Pain?

My first fill was painful. I was still over 300 pounds so the doctor had a lot of fat to go through, it was like finding a port in a haystack. I was also NOT done under fluro. None of my fills have been under fluro. Other than that the other fills have been a cake walk. My most recent one hurt a bit but that was because it was a new dr and my port is now on an angle.
  12. I have a flock of backyard chickens, so we have a lot of fresh eggs: all brown and blue. So: what is your favorite way to cook an egg? Favorite receipe? Do you like eggs of other birds? I'm considering adding other birds in the future. Yes fresh eggs are a good source of Protein. And I'm always looking for new ways to cook them. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Personally: I'm not a fan of scrambled eggs. My favorites are sunnyside up and soft boiled. I also like the egg whites. My dogs sometimes get the extra yolks. Quiche with goat cheese and spinach is a win for me in terms of receipes. I actually haven't had eggs of other birds. I'm considering trying duck and quail eggs. But I'm still on the fence about it.
  13. Very cool lipstick lady- I never thought of freezing quiche. I'm going to have to do this. And I like the idea of mini-sized. I have 3 sons so I rarely make anything mini around here. But that would be a good quick lunch for me while they're at school.
  14. Quail are apparently easy to raise. But my town is meeting tomorrow night about allowing backyard livestock. Technically we can have them but it's based on a 1850s law. So I'm hoping to keep my chickens and goats. Go figure suburban NJ. If you look on craigs list in your area you may find people selling quail eggs at a reasonable price.
  15. I hit a green zone with each fill. But then again I have the old smaller 4cc band. From my understanding it's a world different from the new larger bands out. Things that contribute to weight loss are also what you're eating- protein/carbs/fat ratio. And exercise: type, frequency, etc. Hormones: are you still having periods? I'm back in the green zone as of mid-october (fell out of it due to Fluid missing in my band). And I have to say it's slower loosing now because I've herniated discs in my back and had to completely change my exercise routine until I'm healed. So where as before I could loose 5 pounds a week in the green zone- now I'm at 2, maybe 3 a week.

    Ummmm.....constipated

Milk of magnesia is the worst- and citrate ICK! I prefer a good old fashioned enema. Much easier and way less painful. I had to have a colonoscopy a few years ago and had to have magnesium citrate. OMG- I slept on the bathroom floor and was in pain. I never want to go through that prep again.
  17. I have had foot drop- but that was/is due to a herniated disc in my back (MRI showed it as well as arthritis). It happened in August after lifting a 50 pound bag of chicken feed the wrong way. It ended up giving me sciatica as well. Last week I went in for a spinal epidural to relieve the inflammation. I've also been through PT and chiropractic care for it since September. The PT and chiropractor did nothing for it. I think the chiropractor made it worse because I was constantly tripping over my own left foot when I left his office. He did adjustments, ultrasound, e-stim and ice. I hope you get it sorted out. I'd never heard of it as a side effect of weight loss. My orthopedist is very anti-leg crossing when it comes to injuries. Crossing at the ankle is much easier on your body.

    Breakfast Ideas Help!

eggs, hardboiled and softboiled transport easily and are a good source of Protein.
  19. That sounds like one very full band. I have the OLD small 4cc band that was empty at surgery. As back then they didn't fill for 4-6 weeks post op. How did they manage to get 15+cc in a 14cc band? And why leave so much in at testing? Please keep accurate records and get hospital records as well, in case you end up billed for 2 bands. Glad you're recovering now with the right band without an insane fill in it.
  20. I think your trick was in the organic milk. I can instantly tell the difference between organic and regular. Organic has a much richer taste when it comes to milk. Once you get to eggs you should try organic free-range local eggs. I love mine to the extent I won't even eat a store egg anymore.
  21. Seriously people? There is a huge difference between polling people and beating them over the head with your latest research? Here's one: Bill Gates has gone into the fake egg making business. Would you eat an artificial egg? Haven't heard about it here's an article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2416808/Artificial-egg-PLANTS-backed-Bill-Gates-set-revolutionize-cooking-goes-sale-Whole-Foods.html Yes I have a personal interest in it. I have my own backyard chickens and happen to like fresh real eggs.

Not sure if i need one more fill!

You shouldn't be getting stuck. Smaller bites and chew longer. Also- my dr has a NO CARBONATION rule. So gingerale is a no-no. Before getting a fill I'd look at your diet. What are you eating? If you're getting stuck you may even be a little too tight. I'd also cut the soda. Go back to clean eating, cut out any processed foods you're eating and if you're not getting 8 glasses of Water a day and 60grams of Protein aim for those.
  23. Enemas get it done. Then just up your Water. Post-op it's really hard to get things moving: anesthesia and pain med combo. I had a surgery wednesday and had one this morning. Milk of Magnesia is the WORST. For me I end up with horrible cramping. And I'd never ever had an issue before surgery. And never had an enema before in my life. But they are effective and more natural than meds.
  24. Congrats! Glad you're doing well. Does your Dr allow Ibuprofen? Mine is against it for all bariatric patients as it's hard on stomachs and pouches.
  25. 11/8- 215 It's going to be a slow week next week for me as Wednesday I had surgery and am not allowed to work out for 5 days. Still hoping to make my goal this month.
