  1. I can not even imagine loving someone so deeply that a stupid scar would change that. I don't know you, I don't know him. But....if a friend of mine confided in me that her husband was not attracted to her now because she has a scar then I would scream at her to tell him to get the hell out of her life. Seriously! I would tell her to not sit around and hope that he might change his mind, to hope that that a$$hole might reconsider his love for her. Good grief. Is he so wonderful that you should sit patiently while he weighs the pros and cons of being with a woman with a scar? Life is short. Find someone who loves you unconditionally.

    Sleeve on Prednisone

I was on it too recently. It was a 5 day pack where you start out taking more and end taking 1 before bed. I wouldn't say I was hungry as much as I just craved, thought about, and wanted food food food!! I did the best I could to eat something like sugarfree Jello and pudding but I'm not going to lie, I had my hand in the frito bag more than I care to admit! I felt out of control the first few days but then I fought it like a crazy woman. I drank a lot of Water with the flavor add ins. I did gulp down the jello and ordered my son to get rid of or hide the chips. I have not had a craving problem like this since the surgery. It was horrible! I finished the prescripton 2 days ago and I feel a little more in control.....even though the medicine is still in my system for a while I feel it is getting more manageable. Good luck. I don't have solution but I can definitely relate to you. Hang in there, it gets better.
  3. Typical day for me... Water for the first hour after I wake up because I have to take thyroid medicine. I also drink a total of 4 bottles of water and a cup or 2 of coffee during the day. Breakfast: 105 cals/11 pro: 1 egg fried in a pan with a handful of spinach eaten with a laughing cow wedge 30 mins later a cup of coffee with cream...60 cals/1p pro Snack: 70 cals/6 pro: cheese stick Lunch: 150 cals/12 pro: Usually imitation crab, tuna or chicken salad with cracker crisps Snack: 100 cals/12 pro: Greek Yogurt Dinner: 150 - 200 cals/21 pro: Some kind of meat and a few bites of veggies Snack: Small piece of fruit or sugarfree Jello or pudding Approx 700-800 cals at 2mths out and about 60-65 grams Protein. NO SHAKES! Burnt out on them and I can live without them
  4. That was a while ago but I still eat about the same types of foods. I ate pretty much what I wanted, just really small servings. I started out at about 1/4 to 1/2 cup but am now up to 3/4 to 1 cup. Meatloaf, salmon patties, fish, chicken, meatballs. A little high Protein whole wheat Pasta, very little, it gets gummy and fills me up still. I love minute made whole grain bowls....I add shredded cheese and salsa to them. Soup...so many to choose from. I don't eat the "lite" ones. We eat so little I haven't felt the need to be that picky. Mashed potatoes with cheese....every now and again, not very often Hormel turkey chili Refried Beans with cheese. Egg with laughing cow and spinach. Taco meat with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese. Turkey or Roastbeef with light creamcheese or laughing cow cheese spread on them and rolled up. Imitation crab with lite mayo. I eat that, tuna salad, chicken salad or egg salad and peanutbutter and jelly on special k cracker crisps. Triskets with humus. sugar free Jello and pudding. Cheese sticks. Greek yogurt with a little honey or trailmix if I want crunch. oatmeal with dried cranberries. Sauteed mushrooms and onions with turkey lunch slices So many things.....just eat what you like. Freeze what you cant finish. : )
  5. Hello. Don't pack a lot. I wore the gowns as well. I had IV lines and a bunch of monitors and those leg things that massage your legs so you don't get clots. I skipped the bra.....couldn't wear one for about a week after....even the sports type bras. I took a loose pair of jammie pants and only wore them to walk the halls and to ride home in. The only thing I used out of my packed bag was the biotine mouth spray. Driest mouth on earth and this stuff was a lifesaver!! I packed my nook and a couple changes of clothes, my makeup and hair stuff.....waste of time. You might take your own pillow. The hospital ones were thin and it was very uncomfortable.

    Alcohol question

Whatever you decide is best for you be forewarned that you will get tipsy on a whole lot less than you did before. 1/2 a drink and I am slurring my words slightly and giggling like a goofball. Be careful.

    Thunder thighs.

I'm right there with you. I have lost 70ish lbs and I am still all thighs. I wear a size 16 jean now.....still amazes me!......but I am probably a 14 in the waist. I can never find a pair of pants that fit...always need altering. I think we can work an area and slim it down the best we can, but our basic shape is just that...our basic shape. I just joined a new gym, Planet Fitness.....my other one still has a year on contract but I HATE it there! I feel like a freak show when I go. So I have an appointment Sunday with a trainer and I plan on asking what I can possibly do to fix these thighs!! I plan on having surgery on my thighs at some point....maybe then I will be able to find a pair of jeans that fit off the rack.
  8. I am so scared to even dream of being a size 8. But my sister is the same height and is at the weight I have set as my goal and she is in a size 6! I have not worn anything smaller than a 12 as an adult and that was a flash in time when I was 23 yrs old. I'm twice the age and twice the size now at 47 yrs old and a size 16. I think about buying a size 8 and hanging them where I can wish on them everyday.....hmmmmm Might just have to do that!!! Anything that motivates is a positive thing in my opinion! Your goal is totally realistic! Good luck to you!!
  9. Hi, I am just over 6 mths out...surgery August 11th. I am down 71lbs and it just blows my mind! I always said....if I could just lose 50lbs I would be thrilled. But I felt that was such a huge undertaking! This surgery is the best decision I ever made! I know I say that a lot, I hear it a lot. But there are no other words to describe it! I am still 60lbs from goal....but, that doesn't seem that overwhelming to me anymore. I really feel like I can get there this time! That being said....if I never lose another pound I would still be just as thrilled. Feeling amazing!! Congrats to you! So exciting!!

The Rules: Do you follow them?

nursemate2. I agree that not following a healthy diet is what got me here. I will make healthy choices in order to finally lose the weight and feel wonderful for the rest of my life and hopefully avoid horrible health issues. Massive amounts of unhealthy food was the way lived before. Never again. But....for me...it is so hard and so unrealistic to live my life without ever having the foods I enjoy ever again. I have deprived my self of food since I was 9 years old and it did nothing but make me fat and frustrated. For me, if I am told "never again" when it comes to anything in life, it makes me want it all that much more. I will eat a cheeseburger (without the bun because it gets stuck a little not because they said no) I will have a small piece of cake at a birthday party and I will drink a cup of coffee with creamer every morning. What I will guarantee I will do for the rest of my life is eat healthy and make wise choices 99% of the time. I will enjoy the unhealthy choices every now and again. That's a promise. Life is short.

The Rules: Do you follow them?

I follow the same rules 99% of the time Protein first 64 oz of Fluid...water, coffee, tea veggies next fruit on occasion low sugar low carb exercise at least 3x's a week no grazing chew slowly take 20 mins to eat a meal I was not given a "don't eat" list. I was given a "eat in moderation" and "try" to eliminate the white food....rice, potatoes, Pasta, bread That being said, I have had a couple bumps in the road. I gave in to the iced sugar Cookies at Christmas. And yesterday, valentines day, I did not watch a single thing I ate all day. It was not intentional at all! I woke up late so I skipped Breakfast. I had a French vanilla cappacino at noon on the way to my sons basketball game. I didn't eat a bite of food until 2....when I had 1/3 of a bagel with peanutbutter. Oh my was that a mistake! I did more running around and didn't get to eat dinner until 8pm. By that point in my day all rules went out the window.....I had 1/2 piece of red velvet cake for dinner. But....I'm human. Crap happens. I cant plan everything all the time. Life goes on.

    This freaking stall! HELP!

Hello. I had my 6mth apt yesterday. I complained to my doc about a 6 week stall I had right after xmas. She explained that its just my body adjusting to a new norm with my metabolism. I eat approximately 800-950 calories a day. I eat pretty much the same variety of food and I exercise just about the same way or burn the same calories all the time. My body is saying...oh I can live with this, lets stay here. Eating a few more calories, trying to eat a different variety of food and doing a different type of exercise for a a few days and then go back to my norm might be enough to get the ball rolling again. Or my body could just be holding on because its afraid I am never going to stop eating such low calories so its storing every pound it can. She said that with some people nothing can be done to break it they just have to wait it out. A stall can last from a week to 2 or 3 mths depending on your metabolism, your normal calories in and out and how close you are weight wise to your set weight. Hang in there! Good luck!
  13. When I was at my heaviest ....and was there for many years....no one asked me how much I weigh, what size I wear, how much I plan to lose or what I am eating. But now, some family (not close), acquaintance's and flat out strangers....and their friends.....! feel the need to discuss my body, my weight and my eating habits! I just don't get it! I would never, have never, in my life, asked these questions! Why do people feel they have free reign over my body, my appearance? Why is this ok to them? It really pisses me off! It is NOT ok to assume that everyone on a "diet" has an obligation to the world to answer any and all questions about said diet when ever asked!! I do my best to be polite and talk around the subject. But it never ceases to amaze me that people feel they have a right to ask these things and expect an answer in the first place! I will share my experience openly with people on this forum. I will share it with a couple of my close friends and family. Everyone knows that I will talk but I don't want to be flat out asked.....its just rude! To me it is no ones business unless I CHOOSE to share it and make it their business. So why do so many people that I barely know....or haven't talked to in months....or the stinking clerk at the grocery store, think its ok to ask?
  14. I usually play nice. Smile a lot and jump around the total number. Its just a number to everyone but me and my doctor, right?! So in my mind...if you are asking for a number it is just so you can run to your girlfriends and report it....its just a tidbit of gossip for that person to run with...they got the scoop! I am not going to be or encourage someones entertainment. If they persist and push for that number I just turn it around and say....Well how much to you weigh? My friends have been asking about you. I used that one on the office gossip the last time I was in the office (I work from home, mostly) That made my day But, my biggest issue is my Mother! She is insisting...INSISTING....on knowing what I weigh and how much I've lost! I refuse to tell her because she is the town crier....everyone will know within in 5 minutes of telling her. Shes faster than the internet! We are not close, but have a friendly relationship. She is not on my list of people who need to know! She calls my sister all the time and asks her these questions!! Good grief!! mhuntoon, I think our mothers would get along just fine!
  15. amyecpa Have you tried unflavored Protein mixed in Soup? I was okayed for Soups like this at 2 weeks out. I lived on cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom and any other cream based soup I cold get my hands on...removed the tiny chicken and mushroom pieces, of course...and mixed them with Protein powder. Play with the soups. Mix them together.....broccoli cheddar is great with both cream of chicken and cream of mushroom. I didn't even taste the protein and the warm soup settled a awesomely. I would divide the can into 4 servings and put in a little glad ware container and refrigerate or freeze. Heat up the soup and then add the protein powder once its heated to 140 or less......protein powder separates if the soup is hotter than 140. I would try to eat it every 2 hrs so I can do my best to get in at least 60 grams of protein. Other soups were great too. I pureed them all first and thinned with Water. But I enjoyed most of the soups Campbells has out. Philly Cheesesteak, Cheeseburger....all kinds. Hormel Chili with Beans. Just ask your NUT if this is ok.....but mine encouraged it because I was so sick of the cold shakes. I "sucked it up" as the others were talking about. But why make yourself miserable if there are other things out there to try? Good luck to you. You will find your way!

I wish I knew how to quit you, (fill in the blank)!

LipstickLady, I need to quit eating so much of it. I love cheese! Its the best! But I just eat too much of it. I need to start replacing it with something different. I have laughing cow with an egg just about every morning, then a cheese stick, then shredded cheese on my tuna or chicken, then a slice with dinner. That's about 250 calories worth of cheese most days! Kinda of high when I'm averaging 850 to 900 a day ??
  17. I haven't had an embarrassing incident...yet. I really hope that if I do its not as embarrassing as yours! So...My friend had WLS about a 1 1/2 yrs ago. She was about 6mths into it when this happened. She was walking down the hall at work with her manager and a co-worker discussing the meeting they were headed to. She always wore skirts to work. In the middle of her sentence her skirt hit the floor! Leaving her there in view of God and everyone in her panties and a sweater. Just for a few seconds....but to her it may as well have been an hour! She took in all her skirts that night and bought a belt to wear with her slacks She laughs every time one of us brings it up. I'm 6mths out now. Don't wear skirts....but I'm shopping for a new belt tomorrow!

August post op sleevers: Check in

Hello! I have my 6 mth apt next week as well. I also have been on a weird stall lately. Well, since just after Christmas. I got to 195 Christmas morning....my goal at the time. Now I am at 187. I have fought harder for these last 8lbs than I did for the previous 60! I seem to stay put, gain 1, lose 1, stay there, gain 3, lose 2, stay there......just up and down and down and up. Hoping to get some insight from the nutritionist Tuesday. food wise....doing well. Yes, dense things I cant eat much of. But veggies are easier to fit in daily now. I still can only eat about a cup of food at a time. Think that's my new norm. Water still a struggle. I was a gulper before and drank about 5 or 6 bottles a day. Now that I have to drink a lot slower I tend to put the bottle down and forget to pick it up again until I'm ready to gulp....which I cant. Still figuring that out. I'm lucky...no pain from the surgery. I've been blessed to have an easy ride so far. Knocking on wood that continues!

Lady are you trying to kill me!

Oh my! I love raspberry filled iced donuts! My absolute favorite! I haven't had one in about 7 mths or so. I was going to have one for my birthday last month. I planned for it. Dreamed of it! Then on my birthday I decided not to do it. Well I ended up swinging through Tim Hortons for coffee...my once a week treat when my son has a basketball game... and got a a cheap glazed donut thinking "hey its my birthday!" ....went with a regular donut because I was afraid I would start a new habit of rewarding myself with my all time favorite. Well....I took one small bite of the glazed donut and gave the rest to my son. The guilt still got to me! And it wasn't as good as the raspberry one anyway. I'm not so sure I would have done the same thing with a raspberry filled one! I like to think that if those glorious raspberry filled donuts ended up in my house I would have the courage to toss them to the neighbors dog! Good for you! In my mind you win the gold medal for will power and determination! I'm still dreaming of that stupid donut And I still....like an idiot....get my coffee before the basketball game just to torture myself as I go through the drive thru!

How long do stomach noises last?

I am almost 6 mths out and I am just now noticing that it doesn't gurgle every time I eat. But if I drink a lot on an empty stomach it will make some noise for a while.
  21. How can it not work if you follow the guidelines? They are removing 80% of your stomach. There is no room for overeating. If you aren't losing with the sleeve.....in my opinion, and I'm sure there are exceptions to my opinion.....then you are eating small portions of high calorie food at meals and in between meals. It is just impossible to eat large amounts of food! If you are determined to lose the weight, my suggestion is to cut out heavy, surgary, high calorie, high carb food now so that you can learn to eat healthy nutritious food ahead of the game. Also, they have been doing the sleeve surgery for ulcer patients for several decades. The patients were dropping weight with it and they decided to offer it as a pre by-pass step. A lot of patients didn't go on with the by-pass because they were doing just fine without it. They can say they just don't have the data yet on sleeve because the data is with the ulcer patients not with bariatric patients.

    Weight stall rant....

Everyone will hit a stall...or two....or three.........ugh! Its part of the process. Your body is adjusting to this whole thing. Stay off the scale for a week and then recheck. You will probably not get anywhere near 1200 for a while. That's normal too. I am closing in on 6 mths and am suppose to be at 1200 right about now. I am lucky to get in 950. Most of the time I hover around 850 to 900. As far as gaining......I promise this is part of the process too. I was told it is Water and metabolism adjusting. These stalls are brutal! Personally I think its a winter thing too. Typically I have a very hard time losing weight in the winter. I eat saltier things....chili and Soups....the winter comfort foods. And exercising is harder if you don't have a gym membership and cant get outside. I have a treadmill in my basement but its just as cold down there as it is outside! I struggle to get down there 3 days a week. Relax. Unless you are eating chips, candy and other junk in between your healthy meals I can promise this is just the huey you can expect every now and again as you ride this rollercoaster : ) Hang in there! It will start falling off again soon, no doubt!

    Dizzy.....for weeks. Fainted tonight.

Oh good....glad you are going to talk to your doctor. Be completely honest with him/her. Maybe find a therapist because it does sound like you are developing (developed) an unhealthy relationship with food. You are at goal, you need to be at or close to1200 calories. That's the minimum your body needs to function properly. Not healthy. Your blood pressure could be really low too causing your dizziness and that's not a good thing!

    Relationship with Food After Surgery

I noticed is that the thought of Pasta, bread and rice bring an image of gooey paste in my mind. They told me that those things gum up and can get stuck easily in the beginning. So that image is very vivid in my mind. I still have a few bites of pasta with veggies every once in a while. But I stop when I think about it. I don't crave cheeseburgers, pizza, nachos much anymore. I might have a little bite of the topping of a pizza or a bite of a cheeseburger without the bread. But one bite is enough to realize its not healthy for me and it doesn't taste as good as I remember it once did. I honestly crave veggies now. When I am asked to go out to dinner I start thinking about what kind of roasted veggies I can get. I think that eating healthy for so long now has actually made me start craving healthy over the unhealthy way I used to eat.

I wish I knew how to quit you, (fill in the blank)!

I wish I could quit.....cheese. I put eat string cheese once a day but I also use laughing cow once a day and if I can justify it I put a cheese slice on my chicken at dinner. "protein" I tell myself.....even though I could easily skip it and still meet my Protein goal. I'm determined to get it down to one serving a day, period! I also wish I could quit coffee creamer.....no I don't....yes I do.....no I don't! Ugh!! I feel deprived if I don't have my chocolate carmel coffee creamer in the morning! Since I absolutely positively refuse to deprive myself of anything ever again I will probably have it every morning in my coffee until I go to my grave!
