  1. Hi Brandy, I had my surgery on the 11th. The 3rd day after seemed to be the most gurgly and cramping feeling. Today is 5 days out for me and its quieted down a lot....still there tough. I am TOTALLY impressed that you can get in 30oz of liquids already. I seem to be getting about 20 or so. Today is better....I think I have already had 18 and its mid-day. I am just going to take it one day at a time. When I left the hospital they assured me that whatever I can manage day to day is perfectly normal for me.....there's no standard normal. I am not exercising 30 minutes of fast passed walking and breaking a sweat.....I walk around the house and do little things and I walk up and down my street 2 or 3 times a day. I will not push myself to do more than that this soon after surgery. This is my "normal" Continue to do the best you can! You will get there in due time. Good Luck!

    Solid foods 1 week post-op?

I am only 5 days out. Today is the first day that I have been able to drink 1/2 a shake in a sitting....an hour sitting. I cant even imagine eating solid food in 2 days time. 1 week out seems crazy and impossible. And....my Doctor advised to stick to the plan as defined or risk a suture leak. No thanks! Theres not a bite of anything that would make me risk that! I didn't have to do the clear liquids only, right away. I am on all liquids for 2 weeks, purred food for 2 weeks and then slowly add in soft, wet foods for the following 2 weeks. So 6 weeks before solids.
  3. Hello. I was sleeved on the 11th.....very early in the morning. I was released the next afternoon. Not much pain. More sore, like a sore muscle type thing. I was put on Protein shakes the day after surgery....drank about 1/4 of one, total. Day 2 more Protein Shakes and I drank about 1/2 of one, total. Day 3 I was allowed to make creamed soup with plain Protein powder added and I was only able to do a couple of ounces. But 4 days out and I already had one shake and a tiny bowl of soup and I think I'm ready to have another shake. They take about 2 to 3 hrs to drink. I am lucky enough to not have to go back to work for 4 weeks. I think I will take the full 4 weeks and enjoy them......don't get much time off other wise so that time and the surgery....are both wonderful little gifts to myself. I lost 15 lbs before surgery and 3 lbs since Monday, but I haven't eaten very much at all so I have basically starved it off. Hoping the weight slides off slow and steady over the next year. Good Luck All!
  4. Hello. I was sleeved on Aug 11th. Yes, you get hungry. I was afraid of this too. But, you figure out that just a few sips of a Protein shake and the hunger goes away for a bit. I'm sure its more of an acid adjustment type thing rather than real hunger. I realize now it was a waste of energy to worry about the hunger pre-surgery. Its just part of the ride. You will figure out how to deal with each obstacle you face and you will be fine. You learn to go slow and take small sips because if you don't then you will have to deal with nausea and possibly throwing up or just that over stuffed feeling. When I sip now...2 or 3 sips, my stomach sounds like a one man band!....but it tells me to stop and wait a few minutes to let that settle. Its just a process of figuring out what works for your body. I was told everyone is different because swelling and healing after surgery varies. So, good luck. No worries!
  5. I was sleeved on the 11th as well. Came home the next day around 5pm. No pain meds at all since 6am yesterday and that was regular strength liquid Tylenol. I am having gas pains that have settled in my neck and shoulders but a heating pad really helps with that. Still not able to finish a whole shake. Not really worried. I get a little more in each day. I walk around the house every hour or so.....not going outside without a bra hahaha! But I circle the livingroom, kitchen and the bedrooms a lot. I will wear a permanent imprint in the carpet if I cant get a bra on soon! All is well. Feeling better everyday. Take it easy guys, no need to rush things. One day at a time. Good luck, All!
  6. I have anxiety too. I am currently taking Lexapro to help and it works! I am able to put off thoughts or categorize them so I can deal with things 1 at a time. I am determined to push all negative thoughts aside and concentrate on the positive. Do NOT be afraid to ask for help with anxiety. It is real. There are options. Journaling does help. I was told to journal...write letters to myself.....and then when I'm ready to step past those negative anxiety producing thoughts then burn the letters. Its very freeing. If you have to....write them again and again and burn/release them. Sounds silly, I was skeptical at first, but it really does bring some peace. Final bit of advise.....stay away from the scale for a while. You had the sleeve because it has proven to take the weight off of people for years. Trust it. Trust yourself. Follow the nutritionists guidelines. No worries....its going to drop off in its own good time as long as you follow the program. Best wishes! Hang in there!

  8. Hello All. I am having surgery in the morning. Please tell me what to expect the day of surgery and the day or 2 after while in the hospital. Very curious and I do better when I have a good idea about what I'm headed into. Thanks!
  9. Thanks All! I am scheduled for 7:15 and have to be at the hospital by 5:15. I live about an hour away. Its at OSU Hospital in Columbus OH. Hitting the sack early early early tonight...this evening. I think I'm ready. Thanks so much for the insight. I am not so anxious if I know the routine of things. You have all helped me greatly! I am the last adult on the face of the earth to get a smart phone....so when I get home I will let everyone know how it went. Thanks for the best wishes!

    2 MORE DAYS!

Monday is the day for me also. I was fine until yesterday. I think what made me switch from anxious to nervous was the call from the nurse to confirm everything. She said not to bring anything to the hospital except my insurance card and i.d....they provide everything else I need. Well......I am not comfortable with that! I want some things. I want my own toothbrush and toothpaste....my hair gel, hair spray and straightener (I might have to feel like total huey but I don't want to look like total huey....I will feel worse if I do. I have uncontrollable hair!)....my jammie pants and slippers.....my nook....my phone. She was insistent about it. I will give in on everything but the hair stuff, my nook and my phone...I have a big purse She can get over it. She said my family will just have to cart my stuff around until after the surgery....I think they can handle my purse! I can not wait until Wednesday....I will be home in my jammie pants!

    Unflavored protein

Hello. unjury sells it. Individual packets or a container...17 servings 21 grams of Protein. About $22 + shipping. They are quick....and they always have a personal signature on their receipt. Just a small gesture but it makes me smile when I see it. Very kind.

    The last supper

I'm having surgery on Monday. I have been pretty stinking good on the 2 week pre op diet. 3 shakes, 1 green salad with veggies and light dressing, 1 frozen low carb meal. Tonight I am having a piece of grilled chicken and broccoli....not frozen but its low carb. I really don't want a last meal.....I want a last piece of cake!
  14. I was a total witch for the first 3 or 4 days. I started a 4 week pre op diet and after 3 days I gave in and ate a normal meal. Nothing overboard and actually pretty healthy. I felt better. But realized its the addiction that drove me. I struggled just a little for those first 2 weeks. The 3rd week I did great....but 1/2 way through.....began my week and half PMS issue. Back to being a witch lol! Now I pray for my period to start (that's a first) because I want to get over the witchyness and I don't want to be on my period for surgery!! Its on the 11th. Way to much on my mind....could be part of the witchy problem too! I cant wait til the 11th to come and go!!!

    August Sleevers Check In

Hello. Aug 11th. 1 more week to go. Down 11lbs on pre op. Missing food. But sticking with it. Today is my trip to Walmart to get everything I may need for surgery and the week or 2 after that. Getting scared. Why do I have constant thoughts that I wont survive surgery? Or thoughts that 10 yrs from now I will put it back on? I really want this. I have no thoughts of cheating or worries that I will. I have always eaten healthy meals, I ate too much and snacked on junk all the time. So I feel like I will be able to eat within the guidelines and make this sleeve work for me. I haven't had sweets or snacks in between meals for about 3 weeks now. I don't crave them. What I crave is real food....pre op protein shakes are not filling that savory, crunch and chew void that I have. I guess I'm just rambling. lol My brain is in constant motion over this. Thanks for letting me yammer on.
  16. Hello. I am scheduled for surgery on Aug 11th. I am ready....well, as ready as a totally nervous, anxious, scared, person can be I am missing food and I'm only on my 2 week pre-op. I really miss eating. The whole routine of it. The cooking, planning, eating. I have moments of "oh I wish I could have that" to moments of "i'd give you my first born for a bite of that" But, I'm sticking to the pre-op plan, I stay busy and avoid cooking shows and I turn when a commercial comes on that makes me dream of food. I got this. My question. After surgery do you have an appetite for food? I few years ago I took Adepex diet pills....what I loved about them is that I didn't think about food. I would get hungry but nothing sounded good. I would eat a little just to avoid hunger pangs. I LOVED THAT! It was such a feeling of control but not having to fight myself for it. So, I was just wondering if there is a period after surgery where you really just don't have an appetite?
  17. I don't know if this will help.....but, about 2 mths before surgery I started having a Protein shake for Breakfast and then only Water until lunch. After the first week I realized I felt sooo good! I felt better than I did when I started my day with a mug of coffee. So that stuck. Then I started eating healthier lunches. Then healthier Snacks. I became aware of what I was eating and it got a lot easier. So..I would suggest just starting small. The rest will fall in line once you start feeling in control of it. Good Luck!!

    Calling all August Sleevers!

My surgery is August 11th. I had a 4 week pre-op diet. 4 shakes a day, 1 salad...veggies only....with a little low fat dressing, and a frozen meal under 300 cals and less than 25 carbs. Was told by the nutritionist to do my best and don't beat myself up for slips. Well, week 1 I did great until Saturday....had a large grilled chicken salad at Texas Rhode House for dinner. Sunday had a jelly filled donut for Breakfast. I think I was going through food mourning. We have a local bakery that has the most amazing donuts and I had a moment of "I am never going to have another one again!"....so I had one, got it out of my system. The next week did great all week and had a gilled chicken sandwich from a fast food chain that Saturday. I had a week moment...worked in the yard all day and didn't want to cook. I threw in the towel. So, this week...week 3...I am sticking to it completely. As of this morning I have lost 10lbs. I have 11 more days to go. I did Optifast several years ago....nasty. I am using unjury now. Way better. Call your nutritionist and see if there is anything else you can use. Premier shakes are good. I think they use optifast because it has all your Vitamins and minerals in it. But so do many others out there.
  19. Hello Vincerautmori, I didn't take you the wrong way at all! I think I just didn't explain myself very well in my post before. I am just worn down by the process to get to the point of surgery. I basically just want to get on with it. I was extremely excited in the beginning. It was all new. But, over time it has become the norm to head to doctor appointments and such and to think continuously about it. I'm tired of thinking about it all the time. I think that has taken a toll on the excitement. The reality of surgery has set in...this is serious stuff! I have worked thru ....still am....and I have accepted that my life is changing and will continue to change in the coming months. For the better! Absolutely! Its just kind of scary to make a drastic change in the way I eat and live my life.....for 39 yrs I turned to food to get me thru a lot, to protect me, comfort me and to bring pleasure. Are there other things that protect me, comfort me and bring me pleasure? Oh, Absolutely! But food has been a huge part of me and my family life. Its going to change. Giving up food, the way I enjoyed it and used it up to now, is very sad to me. I am not excited about that. I am, however, excited about my future! That is why I am having surgery.
  20. Blazzrr, I feel exactly the same way. I am 3 1/2 weeks away from surgery too...August 11. I am not excited. I used to be. But not anymore. About 3 days ago I went from excited to scared and tired of it all. Its consumed my thoughts for months and months. I completely understand what you are going through. I think its the fact that its approaching fast and reality has sunk in. Its a sad thing to let go of something that was there for us thru the good the bad and the ugly for a very long time.

    lied about my surgery :/

When I called our short term disability provider they told me that my manager would receive notice that I applied for it and it was approved from this date to this date. Period. She said they will not put a reason on the leave notice because it is no ones business beyond the me, my doctor and my short term disability provider....they only need to know because they will require paper work from my surgeon....they are an insurance provider. And I had to go to my place of employments benefits department first and they didn't even need to know the reason. They advised me of the disability provider phone #. They only need to know the dates so my pay checks can be handled correctly for the time I'm off. Your manager is just pulling the "I'm the boss" card. He is crossing the privacy line.
  22. 4 weeks before surgery.....4 Protein shakes, 1 small piece of fruit, veggie salad...nothing but veggies....with low fat low sugar dressing, 1 frozen meal under 300 cals. Should stay between 1000 and 1200 cals a day. 3 days before, liquids only. I have been on it 3 days now. Day 1 I blew it....was so hungry and I ate without thinking. Yesterday and today....way better. At first I thought 4 weeks sucked because everyone is talking about 2 weeks pre-op diet. But....I am grateful for the 4 weeks now....its a struggle and I think the 4 weeks will give me time to really adjust to it and that should help after surgery too. That sounds good on paper....crossing my fingers it works

    BCBS insurance question

8I have BC/BS of OH and WW did count. All they wanted was a record of weight for a couple years. I didn't even need to show proof of "doctors supervised diet" as stated in my insurance requirements. I wrote down every single diet I tried over the years and didn't provide a shred of evidence. They took my word. The NUT wrote a letter of recommendation for the surgery based on what I provided to him. I was told by my provider (they deal with all different types of insurance) that the specific diet program doesn't matter....its that you tried something in the past Was also told that sometimes the insurance company asks for a letter of recommendation from your private care doctor stating you tried and sometimes they dont. At least this was what I went through. It can be different from state to state. I was approved in 9 days. The longest wait has been the surgery....had to take a vacant surgery time....first one available on the day they scheduled me was 8/11, from 7/8.

    August Sleevers Check In

August 11th for me. 7:15am....have to be there are 5:15am and I live about 1 1/2 hrs away. I will have to get up at around 2:30am to get ready and get there on time! But the more I think about it....I probably wont sleep much that night even if I didn't have to be there until noon! Scared and excited. My pre-op diet is just 3 Protein shakes a day, 1 piece of fruit and raw veggies thru the day and 1 frozen meal under 300 calories. Way better than what I have been reading about some other pre-op diets. And after the surgery I am on strictly liquids for 4 to 6 weeks....protein shakes based....not Clear Liquids only. Very happy with this. Hoping it will help with the hair loss issues I've read about. My doctor said that on clear liquids only right after surgery people have been really hungry and eating "small" amounts of food trying to fight the hunger and this can cause leaks. Protein Shakes right after surgery have helped and are not a problem with healing at all. So glad he went over this with me....some posts on here can be really scaring the huey out of me!
  25. I asked the question when I had my first NUT appointment. I was told 80% of the wls patients will gain "some" weight back. About 20lbs. He said he sees about 50 patients a week and probably sees about 4 a year who put a significant amount of weight back on.....and its always because they choose to eat foods they know full well are not on their new diet plan. You will eventually be able to eat normal foods...just less of it. So you can choose to eat candy and icecream or you can eat healthy foods. Weight gain after surgery is choice of food, not failure of the procedure. And, if you read something about insurance companies saying that wls doesn't work or is a failure, keep in mind that most insurance companies consider a 20lb gain a wls "failure". Really? A failure? In my opinion, that is insane. A severely obese patient.....say 300lbs, who reaches goal weight of 150lbs, then 2 yrs later puts 20lbs back on... how in the world is that a failure?! I guarantee you that once 300lb person would be a happy little camper to be 170lbs when its all said and done! Honestly....do not dwell on the comment/opinion of one person even if its from a doctor or nutritionist. Do your own research. Read the studies and form your own opinion. No one on this site has a doctor or nutritionist who is all knowing. I absolutely mean all of this in the kindest way possible....typing seems to come across so harsh. I just hope that you, and anyone else on the fence, doesn't take this "failure" talk as an excuse to back out of something that can be a kick start to an amazing change in their lives.
