  1. Another go-to place for me is Ebay. You may want to try that and you can let your fingers do the walking!
  2. Since these clothes will be temporary, have you considered looking in a large thrift shop?
  3. Good luck on your surgery! I'm a little curious why you went to Jordan for the surgery... was it the cost? Brave of you to go on your own too!
  4. One book in particular helped me: "Emotional First + Aid" (the bariatric one).
  5. Ignore them. They don't know what they're talking about.
  6. Caffeine may be the culprit. It causes your stomach to produce more hydrochloric acid. Try decaf.
  7. Holy smokes! Sounds like you're doing great! I think you need to confront your boyfriend. Make it clear that you are the one that is dieting, the one that is exercising and following the process/procedures of experts. He needs to back off.
  8. My NUT said that, for women, the amount of Protein needs to be at least 60 grams/day. Drinking as much Water as possible is also very important. Congratulations on making it through the last 2 weeks and for making the decision to be healthy! IF you were struggling with your weight and want to minimize the chances of re-gaining lbs. down the road, the following book has helped me a lot: "Emotional First + Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery" by Cynthia Alexander.
  9. Egads! Nobody needs or wants to be compared with anyone else! I think a good nutritionist with bariatric experience could help you with these questions. Therapy may also help. Best wishes!
  10. This is your 3rd day out-- it takes awhile to heal. Meanwhile, just make sure you're drinking as much Water as you can and getting as much Protein as possible. The rest will take care of itself!
  11. That is most likely gas pains from the doctors inflating the body so they can do the surgery. Walking helps dissipate the gas!
  12. It's very sad that she doesn't want to live. It must be very hard for you and your family to watch her self destruct.
  13. I recommend this book. It helped me a lot in separating emotions from my eating. That reduces the struggle. "The Emotional First + Aid Kit: a Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery"
  14. I suggest you try making shakes with egg whites or other Protein instead of the protein powder. That might help make it more palatable.
  15. I'm sure you know this... he needs to drink more water!
  16. One thing that sticks out to me is that you are taking in 40g Protein. According to my NUT, the amount should be 60 - 80g of protein, closer to the 60 for women and 80 for men. Maybe taking in more protein may make you feel more satisfied.
  17. My wakeup call was finding out that the co-morbidities I had: diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver were *progressive*. That prompted my next question, "So where is this heading?" Even though my blood sugars were well-controlled, the doctor said that I would wind up with an insulin pump. I also have sleep apnea. The doctor told me that my weight would shorten my life by 10 years. Holy smokes! That's a LOT of time! Then I thought of my kids and their marriages and potential grandchildren. Didn't want to miss everything OR have my husband and kids hurt big time for 10 years longer than would have been necessary.
  18. I came across these Powerpoint slides by Dr. Henry Buchwald which mention statistics on bariatric co-morbidities including PCOS. I hope this helps. http://www.t2dmcanadasummit.com/videos/Buchwald1.html [downloadable Powerpoint presentation]
  19. You look awesome! Thank you so much for the hope.
  20. Oh yeah! I would like to be back into a size 4. For sure there are health benefits in getting rid of life-shortening co-morbidities. I can't WAIT to have the option to wear cutie patootie designer clothes I can get really cheap from Ebay!
  21. I suggest you fill out your profile so people have an easier time helping you. Any kind of weight loss surgery will restrict the quantity of what you eat. From what I've read, there is a tendency to gain weight back after a significant time has passed. To minimize emotional eating, two books in particular have helped me: Emotional First + Aid (the bariatric one). From the First Bite (and other books) by Kay Sheppard Good luck on Saturday!
  22. They will change their tune after you've lost a lot of weight. You'll look great!
  23. Sounds to me like your gut feeling about seeing a therapist is right on. Do you have insurance, and could you afford the co-pay? Do you have a connection with a bariatric center of excellence? I was thinking they would be able to refer you to a therapist that has bariatric experience. Do you have any pets?
