    Poll: NHS or Private

I had mine done privately because I am old and I did not want to wait forever for the NHS to decide whether they would or they would not. I only had about a fortnight between first contact and the op.

When the truth is inconvenient . . .

green, I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I do hope the cancer has not spread. My thoughts are with you. I must admit I was very touched by the kind thoughts of your friends on here, they are so kind aren't they? Good luck with your treatment. Regards

Obese Children Maybe Taken From Home

I think it is the cruellest thing to take children from parents who love them even if the parents are misguided. It seems to me that if you have not got your own parents to care for you, you do not stand much chance in the world today. You hear of so many children who have been in care and unspeakable things have happened to them from care homes and from foster parents. I think the parents and children have to be closely monitored in this case. I am sure this would be cheaper in the long run than taking whole families into care.

    I can't freak'en communicate! AAAHHH

Hi everyone I am English and sometimes when I am watching American TV I don't understand certain phrases, however I have been really pleasantly surprised by everyone's written English. It is really great, and I understand all of it. I always thought we were divided by a common language, but we aren't. We all have our local dialects here in the UK and sometimes we do not understand people from other areas. We are just a small country so the differences in speech in both the US and Canada must vary a great deal more. However I don't understand the "f-bomb" thing green, does it mean that you use the "f word" a lot? Great to see you back Wasa and Green (That would make a good name for a business LOL)

What to do when you can't sleep?

Originall Posted by Trish5713 my brother has always had trouble sleeping and his psychiatrist was warry of putting him on any meds. so she told him to just lay down, close his eyes and say 1 in his head, breath, say 1, breath, and so on. i was skeptical at first but i tried it on a really long car ride and i fell asleep. apparently it helps keep your mind empty. i do it alot now if i'm stressed and can't sleep. might be worth a try! I was taught that system by buddhist monks when I went many years ago to learn how to meditate. The idea of that is to clear your mind. I do not have trouble sleeping normally, but if I do I read. that seems to do it for me I hope you eventually get to be able to sleep Boo.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

We call ladybugs "ladybirds" in the UK and in one part of the UK (Norfolk) they are called "Bishy Barnabys". Please do not ask me why! There was a press article the other day which said we swallow several spiders in a lifetime, whilst we are asleep, so they do not always make you barf. We call doing a barf, doing a huey.

Hi I have read that you can get a reaction to peanuts with food that does not contain peanuts but has been made near something which has peanuts in it.

Why I do not like working with other women

In our office it is the men who are horrible to work with. They hate working for a woman boss and complain about her all the time, saying she does not do her job properly and complaining to her superiors. They compete with each other to see who can do their work the quickest, cutting corners and not doing all they should, so that we women have to clear up their messes. There is one really obnoxious man who is always complaining about how bad everyone else is and how good he is. We women on the other hand are very supportive, do the work the way it should be done and get on very well. I wish we could get rid of the men. I am not a man hater by the way. I married one.

    June 2007 Bandsters

Thanks for your kind words Bigbaby. I am slowing up a bit with the weight loss now. I have had one fill 6 mls in an I don't know what size band. I have been given details of my band but not the the size of it. There are small and large Inamed bands and I suspect it is a large one as I had the 6mls all in one go and I note from lots of posts that you guys are having much smaller amounts in your fill, and more often. To be fair I have been away on holiday for 10 weeks so might have had more fills if I had been at home. I am going to have another fill shortly, I am awaiting an appointment through the post. We are different to you in the UK, we have to speak to the dietician and she decides if we can have a fill or not. We can steer her/him in the right direction if you know what I mean. Good luck with the rest of your weight loss. We can do it can't we?

    June 2007 Bandsters

Hi all, I am a June Bandster I don't post very often, but I read all the posts. How are you all getting on with your Body Bugs? Do you think they are worth the money?
  17. entered by restrict2008 no fat is ridiculous, what about Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids? Some oils are necessary and healthy. Not just your skin but the layer surrounding your neurons needs fat. Her skin is a reflection of her general health. Your coworker is an idiot. Yes I know, but she has moved away now so I can't enlighten her.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
  18. Going back to being waited on in a store. I was in a cafe in a queue waiting to be served and the assistant ignored me several times going to the person at the back of me each time. So I went behind the counter and said "excuse me, I am invisible?" Well she was so embarrassed, she did not know what to do. I just stalked off and went somewhere else. There definitely is discrimination against fatties. Even my mother. I did not tell my family until eight months down the line, when I had lost 80lbs and my mother said "you still have a long way to go". Which is true, but she could have said that I had done well so far couldn't she? However the discrimination amuses me because they are just ignorant! I once had a co worker who said that her husband could not stand fat, they never had any in the house. They did not use any sort of fat for cooking as he found it repugnant. However she had the driest skin I have ever seen and I would have loved to say "no wonder you have very dry skin then", but I would not be so unkind.
  19. I have lost weight really fast. I haven't lost all of my weight yet, I still have a long way to go but I think I look really old now. I had hardly any wrinkles before I started to lose weight, now I am very wrinkly. I have a humungous bottom (bum, derriere, butt, whatever you like to call it) so my mum kindly told me yesterday, and big thighs so I do not think I will ever be thin. It does not bother me though I just want to get healthy.
  20. Hi PhotoEgor Thanks for the tip about Brewers Yeast. I have not heard of that for years. I am off to get some soon. The "F" Plan diet was all the rage many years ago. The idea was that one ate lots of fibre such as bran and this would help with weight loss. It eventually became known by its followers as the "Fart" Plan diet. As is the way with all diets, it eventually fell out of favour. Good Luck to you and your Soulmate with your weight Loss

  22. Not much of a story I am afraid Kat, but we were in Australia and we had just finished coffee in an outdoor cafe and my husband did a fart, really loudly. Just as he did this a young man who was riding along on his bike, promptly fell off. We were there with about 10 of our relatives and all of us were rolling on the floor laughing like mad. As I said this is not much of a story, but boy was it funny! I have dined off this story for years and laugh every time I think of it. You will be pleased to know that it wasn't smelly though..
  23. As you all know, before the band lots of us tried nearly every diet ever invented. I went on one once which involved eating a significant amount of died apricots. The first time I ate the apricots was absolutely awful. My abdomen blew up so that I looked about 9 months pregnant and the pain was so severe. I had to pass wind and when I did the odour was indescribably foul. It was so bad that my husband banished me to the spare room during the day!!! Can anyone remember the "F Plan" diet? I was on that diet and I was shopping with my som who was aged 11 at the time. We were in the stationery store looking for books and pens etc when suddenly I had terrible wind. I tried to clench my buttocks to stop the wind escaping, but was unsuccessful and I let out this ginormous fart, it was like a thunderclap. Of course I was really embarrassed and I said to my son,"come on we must get out of here" my son didn't want to leave, he protested "but I haven't got my pencils yet!" I told him that I did not care and we had to go. Anyway that is not as bad as my husband who farted and a man fell off his bike.

Bjean My mother would agree with you about the additives to tobacco being the cause of cancer and other diseases. She said she used to make cigarettes during the war (World War II) and what goes into cigarettes now is totally different.
