  1. I did not have surgery with them but using Dr. Kuri in Mexico. He did my band and I have had it slip gained weight back and pretty much having a major esophageal issue with food going to my repository and larynx. The past 8 months has been torture to even understand what was going on with me since I kept being diagnosed with upper respiratory infections. Anyways I go in on May 29 for my revision. I am nervous for the fact of I am not sure of how much repair needs to be done to my esophagus and of pain, I think that is what is giving me anxiety.

  2. For some of us we are a month out and I was wondering how is it going. I started solids mid week but still tend to go for the softer types of food. People well ask me what can I eat and I always respond with what ever I want, as this is a tool not a diet program and the key aspect of this tool is Portion Control. I was on a great exercise routine but my back issues have started to flare up the past few days and its making me miserable with pain. Otherwise everything else is going great with the band!!

  3. I can understand that too, I have done more things in the past week then I have done in the past year. I have taken all six of my children places with me and normally I go with one and also I have more stamina then before too! The other day I did five songs on the dance party in a row and there was no way I had energy to do that before, also my carpal tunnel is not bad and that day going into surgery (15 days ago) I had the worst flare up that lasted 3 days. There is even a difference in the stamina to play video games with my children, again where I could only play 1 round before my hand hurt I am not giving up the remote to share. These are small things but ones that I am so happy to enjoy because I couldn't before.

  4. So I am 12 days post op and still not having an appreciate (not that I am complaining) but I do want to ensure I am getting enough nutrients. I will eat in the morning and then not until night time my stomach sends the hunger signal to my brain and it dawns on me I am hungry. I am still on full liquids and have been doing well when I ate but I do not really finish any of my servings. Should I contact the doctor about it or wait until my 6 week check-in? I am not sure if it's just normal because I see so many who do talk about being hungry is there anyone else who was early into the band that did not have an urge to eat? Am I drinking too much Fluid, I drink at least 100 oz daily?

  5. I've been keeping track because I'm super anal about counting calories and weighing everything now.

I didn't get my card, I didn't even know there was a card.

Nights have been hard for me too. I can't stand laying flat it hurts too much. I've been using a heating pad on my left shoulder to see if it'll help with gas pain. Not sure anything is helping really.

I had my surgery may 9th.

We had our surgery the same day! I didn't know there was a card until the doctor gave it to me when I was being discharged. I have never heard of it before so maybe its super secretive. I use my fittnespal to log my food intake, today was the first day anything was on there except Popsicles! Let me know if you use it so we can be buddies on it. I have had to put the heating pad on my stitches they hurt a lot specially at night. Yesterday I drinked about 1/3 of a cup of Protein Drink and it took care of the case issue all too well :( ....

  6. Day 4 post op. Took a 20 minute walk today before going back to work for a few hours. I was feeling pretty good. Haven't taken any hydrocodon since day 2 post op. I was able to eat or drink rather more than ever today, I got down 8oz Protein Shake, about 40oz Water and 4 oz of broth. We took a short walk after "dinner" now I'm beat, have nausea, and I think I over did it. Gas pain is worse at night.

Hopefully everyone is feeling good. Looking forward to not being in pain.

That was me yesterday, I did about 20 mins of walking around plus playing with my kids and I think I over did it alot. Last night gas was a killer, literally!! I also didn't take the pain meds either so today I am taking it easy, using the meds and hopefully tomorrow I can get some light walking in. I haven't kept track of how many oz I am drinking as I keep drinking constantly. My sinus are inflamed as well and I can't take any meds for it so I was told to drink twice as much water as normal to keep myself hydrated. This afternoon was the first time I felt hungry but then again I didn't have anything but water to drink so that might have something to do with it. Tonight for dinner I am trying my butternut squash Soup I love that soup. I saw a recipe for creamy chicken soup, but not sure if it will blend smooth or not. I do have a question, did anyone get their lab-band card? I was told I can use it when ordering food out or at a buffet in order to use the children's menu, of course this is in the future but I was just wondering if it was true or not.

  7. How long were you on a full-liquid diet? I'm 9-days post-op and still on the full liquid diet.

    mines only 7 days

Mine is 14 days and I started with a glass of milk last night before bedtime. Today I had thin cream of wheat so far. I have a Soup I am going to make and then clam chowder tomorrow. I will have to become creative at this stage :)

  8. Okay so today early in the morning, I had my surgery. I arrived in Mexico yesterday morning for my pre-op and all day appointments with the doctors here. The surgery was fine but it is painful a hell even with meds, Although walking has been easy getting up is very hard and painful. They also repaired a hernia I had and the doctor told me it might hurt somewhat more. Also my blood sugar is up higher then I have had in months, at 140 :( about to take another walk around and go to the bathroom! I don't think I will be on juice later tonight with the levels this high maybe I can have some tea later. Good luck and well wishes to all my fellow banding buddies!

  9. @@Samirax6 Good luck! It looks like we have a good group here to support each other and send along healing vibes, prayers and helpful advice.

As far was wearing something home from the hospital, I have a couple of full length cotton loungers from what I call the "fat ladies' stores" (Roamans, Woman Within, etc.) that I wear as dresses for casual use. They are loose and have empire waists. Here in Pittsburgh it's already 80 today, so I think by my surgery date of 5/20, it will be the right weather to wear them.

I haven't tried any of the Protein Drinks yet. Does anyone have suggestions of what brands are good?

Thanks so much, I was going to take a skirt and kept thinking that is the almost the same as pants!! Duh but yes I do have one of those and will take that with me. I imagine I will be swollen so got some flip flops but can't find my slippers for my hospital stay. ugh!!!

  10. Well tomorrow morning I will be at the hospital, I had a reminder call as well as reminding me not to eat after midnight (like I have done that anyways, LOL) anxiety has taken a toll, I haven't even gotten my bag together!!! I was debating on what to ware home as it says not to ware anything tight on your waist, so what has everyone else worn home from the hospital? Also, what are some good drinks for the first few days, the doctors note says to try the clear Protein Drinks but they same to have really bad reviews? Should I just stick with tea, Water, and maybe Gatorade? Good luck to everyone else!!

  11. Had my surgery yesterday. Ended up staying overnight in the hospital because I couldn't do the barium swallow. I was too nauseated. So far I'm just sore. My nurse has a walking app on her phone and she said that I have already walked a half mile just getting out of bed. Dr said that he had to use a bigger band due to my hernia bad it will work but it will just take longer to lose weight. At least it's over!

Hope your feeling better and take care of yourself!!!

  12. i know! @@Vtsoutherngal I'm excited about cream Soups too! i bought some unjury chicken flavor to mix in it!

i'm having an off day today. just feel kinda blah, and head hunger is back worse than it was on day 2. it probably has to do with the fact that my office is having cinco de mayo nachos for public service week and its all i can smell/see when i walk thru the hall. just really ready for thursday. i'm glad i have 2 weeks off (one for surgery, one for staycation) so i dont have to deal with these things right away, especially when i'll be full liquid for a week or two.

    hope everyone is doing well!

Sorry about that!!! But it is a good thing on how you can experience this now and learn how to cope. I have had so many activities over here too but non have been tempting for me and I have surprised myself. Thursday can't come any sooner over here too, I just want to be able to get to full liquids by Sunday for mother's day!!!

  13. Checking in and seeing how everyone is doing. :) Has mine today. I was on the unlucky side with immediate gas shoulder pain. So I'm walking a lot. But otherwise doing well. Drinking liquids and near to no incision or port pain.

Congrats, still waiting for Thursday to arrive. I hope I do not get the gas pains, I have experienced something similar and it was no joke!

  14. So I had cubital tunnel syndrome on my left arm and had never repositiong surgery done in December to elevate that issue. I already had carpal tunnel in my right hand but the past 3 days this has gotten worse and the pain has gone up my arm and feels similar to my previous condition, just the other arm. Ice and not using it helps but its constant nerve tingle, numbness and pain I have. I will be banded on Thursday morning and wondering should I just wait it out until afterwords next week or try to get in to see the hand specialist before surgery. At this point I am not sure if there is anything to relieve the pain except for time or surgery in the near future for it. It has become a huge bother as I have one more project to complete before I have surgery this week. What do you guys think, call or just wait until next week (post-surgery)?

  15. I am so there with you. I am nervous too, its still surgery and complications can still occur no matter how many questions, research, or discussion with previous operated people. I am trying to relax by doing things that keep me calm, for me its movies and listening to music. So guess what I am doing for the next few days, yep sticking to enjoying relaxing movies that takes my mind off it. Plus spending time with my family.

  16. How's everyone's pre-op going? Im tired of shakes at this point, but down 13 lbs!

I did not do shakes and at first I was bummed but now I realize how easy it is to get me though the weeks after being banded. I am looking forward to having liquids as I can get some juicing in which I haven't done in almost a month. What is everyone going to have the first two days after surgery?
