I use MRM Whey Protein Isolate. 24g protein and ZERO sugar. Has a slightly sweet taste but not as sickeningly sweet as some I've tried. It comes in different flavors. Not sure about unflavored. Also, I've been blending up cream soups with water and sipping those. Gas might be from too much dairy?

Oh man, day 3, I was at the hospital listening to the guy in the room next to me puke his guts out. I was nauseas from the morphine and thinking "what did I do???". Turns out he wasn't even a bariatric patient. lol

Article- 5 Things I miss about weighing more than 300 pounds.
AprilHansen replied to Amyllf2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
As someone who has been both very thin and very overweight I can relate to a LOT of this! Especially the "natural strength" part. -
I know it sounds weird, but I only weigh myself in the morning and ONLY if I had a BM the previous night or that morning. Otherwise, why am I weighing? lol you didn't do it for nothing. This first month is all about protecting your pouch and getting enough protein and HEALING . Your body has been through a trauma. Just get your water and protein and the weight loss will come. I gained 20 pounds in the hospital just from all the fluids.

Anyone have a On-Q pain pump
AprilHansen replied to Amyllf2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If youre having that pump (the pca is different) does that mean you're having an OPEN surgery?? Then recovery will be much longer.. I know you were going to try to return to work after just a few days... I had the pca morphine.. after laparoscopic bypass It was fine but it made me a little nauseas and I could actually taste it. But, thank goodness for pain meds. -
Just wish I could make a decision!

Congratulations! :-) -
Be careful and try to get "soft" ice. My sister cracked a bunch of her teeth by eating ice for years.

I tried isopure during my pre-op because its clear liquid... YUCK!! If you can stomach that, you're stronger than me. lol

Sounds like gas from the Mt Dew is trapped. I'm no expert, but can you take gasX, drink a little water and walk? Sounds like how I was right after surgery. Also you might call your doctor in case the nuts got stuck.. Wish I could be more help..

Ladies! TMI...that time of the month
AprilHansen replied to desig1814's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG my monthly visitor came immediatle after surgery! I couldn't believe it. 2 weeks early! My nurse told me sometimes that happens with surgery and the stress the body is under. However, one good thing about it is I never felt any cramps or had PMS. I wonder what will happen next month.. -
April 2014 pre-op group
AprilHansen replied to KristinaRnY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations!! You'll do great. Just give yourself time to heal. I'm 8 days post op and it hadn't dawned on me that there would be a recovery period. lol@me! -
Be super careful. You could get drunk off one small drink... and drunk enough for a DUI. I don't drink at all, but the Dr. warned us all about this.

It was day 4 before I felt human. The gas bloat was a killer. Walk some but don't overdo it. It takes time. Try to eat the soup and stuff they give you. Its gross but it helps move the gas around a bit.

I've made a game out of it sort of. I have made a calorie goal for each day and it cycles 500,400,300,400,500..... But its hard to even hit the 300.

Sorry I didn't see this before. That is amazing!!! I think I'm going to go lick some potato chips now.. apparently it works!!!

How much have u lost since surgery day?7 pounds down from my pre-surgery weight. How about you?
-
I was just wondering how you are doing??? Pre op weight loss was tough for me too. I discovered that a breakfast protein shake made all the difference, no matter what I did the rest of the day. Once I gave into the shakes. I lost 14lbs in 2 weeks.
-
Oh man I wish I could... But I know next thing I'd be making a potato chip shake! lol. I just have to stay away for now. We have the same surgery date :-)

Hair loss with band vs. sleeve
AprilHansen replied to mentalistfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure anything that causes less absorption of protein (and calories and other nutrients) would result in some hair loss. As I understand it, the band doesn't cause malabsorption. -
Great job!! I just hit the 25lb mark today, including the pre op diet and I'm one week post op. Now I wish I'd lost more BEFORE surgery but I was so scared of being cancelled by insurance.
-
Thats amazing! Great job! I'm 1 week post op and my incisions hurt so much when I stand up. I feel like I'm going to be in bed forever.

Thats hilarious! I love my sugar free popsicles. My grandkids think I'm crazy I always do bizarre things to amuse them. Last year I took the family to Florida for spring break for a week and I shipped my Easter Bunny costume ahead to our hotel. Easter morning I got in bed with each of the grandkids and pet their heads with my paws. Lol. Their expressions were priceless!!!What an awesome grandma! :-)
