April 16th role call - who's with me!

I am not trying to compare myself to others as much as I am seeing what's normal and get suggestions to help get you through. As someone said earlier there are some people saying how much energy they had etc and it was good for me to know I wasn't the only one that felt like I needed to go straight back to bed after getting the kids ready for school this morning. Sometimes just random things like someone's suggestion to strain Hibachi Restaurant soup to get a little difference in the clear liquid diet made a HUGE difference in the way my day started out. I feel like I'm a sponge right now soaking up and and all advice I can get. Glad we are all going through it somewhat together. I've never been one to be on foruma or post stuff online but I've really needed it post op. Thanks again for everyone's support!!!!
  2. Ok thank you! I got some of the soup from the Japanese Hibachi Restaurant near by and strained out the veggies and it was soooo much better. I appreciate your suggestions. I'll try making my own broth and next time I'll get some different soups to try. I felt much better after the Hibachi broth. Thanks again for your help.
  3. Congratulations on progressing in your diet, ladies. I'm 5 days post op and on the clear liquid diet for 2 weeks, too. A lot of people that had surgery around the same day as I did have already progressed to all liquids or even purees so I kind of felt like I was the only one doing clear only for two weeks. Do any of you have any ideas to make the broth any more interesting? I was thinking about ordering soup from a Chinese restaurant and just straining the broth to see if it tastes any better than the one in the can. What did you all do? Maybe it's all in my head, but I have no energy and it all just hit me yesterday when I thought I was doing great and now I just feel wiped out!

April 16th role call - who's with me!

I'm still on clear liquids only and I'm dragging today. I got the kids to school and I came home and went back to bed for several hours. I tried to add Unjury Chicken Soup Protein as that was the only thing outside of the broth, etc I am allowed and I couldn't get past the first sip. Made me sick for the rest of the night. Oh well. I will stick to the clear liquids for now. Anyone else on clear liquids post op?

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Oh and about the tummy rumbly noises, my dr said it was normal. And the diarrhea.....sorry for TMI but he said that will be par for the course while I'm on the clear liquids. Boo!!! Glad I don't have to go back to work like this because I'm grumbling bubbling away over here. Ugh. It will all be worth it in the end, so I'm not complaining.

April 16th role call - who's with me!

I'm on Clear liquids for 2 weeks and it's pretty boring. So I asked my dr today if I could try the unjury chicken Soup since it's clear. They ok'd it so I tried a tiny sip of it today (was ok with it during the clear liquid diet before surgery) but today when I tried it I almost didn't get it down and I've felt nauseous since. I haven't felt nauseous since I was in the hospital. Ugh!!!! I agree about the 3 oz cups. I just happened to have a bunch that my mother in law gave me when she moved and they've been great!

    Any April Sleevers?

I was told the blurriness was from the nausea patch behind my ear and that once I removed it that it would get really blurry, which it did, for a few hours. On a weird totally unrelated note....I made two different Cookies for my family two nights in a row and didn't even lick my fingers! I had my daughter put them in and out of the oven so I didn't bend, but they came out so perfectly. I just served them up to the kids and watched tv. I know it won't always be this easy, but I'm still very proud of me. For Easter, the family had steak and mashed potatoes and it smelled and looked delicious. I made my little 4 oz cup of broth and enjoyed every drop of it. So weird. How are you all doing on Easter?

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Yeah, it has it on my list of clear liquid diet foods to start my vitamins. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow to double check. The regular multi vitimin with iron doesn't bother me but that calcium citrate d3 one -whew!!!! I need to call them anyways because I would like to add the Unjury Chicken Soup broth to get in my protein. Im definitely not getting enough and I dont want it to wreak havoc on my hair and body if I don't....so I will be calling them tomorrow. Also, my tummy is making horrible noises. I don't feel sick or anything just feel lots of gas, I guess moving around and it makes this bubbly weird noise. Anyone else feel like their tummy is talking to them?

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Hey guys. Feeling pretty good. I'm only on clear liquids for 2 weeks with the exception of adding skim milk for protein. The only time I've been nauseous is when I take my calcium citrate d3 chewable. It gets me every time. I get really hot all over and start to sweat then as quickly as it comes on, it goes away. I've learned to eat it right after I have my soup broth and eat the vitamin very slowly in a ridiculous amount of bites. So weird. I would love to have one of my protein shakes because I hate skim milk but I'm sticking strictly to my plan. It's been great having others go through this at the same time and sharing little tidbits of info that is so helpful. Keep me posted.

    How long did Gas last.

I actually bought the gerber baby juice since it's 100% juice and the containers are so small...but they told me unsweetened 100% juice was the kind to get. But not to drink more than 4 oz a day. And you dilute it with half juice half Water. And they specificially said don't use a straw because you end up taking in more air when you drink from a straw (not sure how) but my paperwork specifically says "no straws" on the no no list.

    Food

Wow! I'm only 3 days post op so I really don't have any recipe suggestions thus far, but I just had to jump in to say congratulations!!!! What a huge accomplishment! I do have obe suggestion that a veteran told me about on here and I'm going to try it when I'm able to start making meals. He said he got 4 oz and 8 oz mason jars and takes 4 or 8 oz portions of whatever he makes for family or just has a cooking day and makes a few meals. He then freezes them in the mason jar then they start to add up. So on any given day he has quite the variety of already portioned meals to choose from. If he takes one to work it will thaw by the time he heats it up for lunch. Removes the cap and microwaves it and yummy hot meal. I don't think that's really anything to do with your "what are you eating" question, but I found it to be so helpful, I thought I'd pass the knowledge on. You obviously know what yoy are doing since you are down 100 lbs. So feel free to give me any advice on how to think outside the normal info from the nut, etc.

    How long did Gas last.

I am 3 days post op and I was having some serious gas pains, too and I walked more than anyone that was in the hospital with me. I tried the heating pad, warm decaf rea with one splenda (just cannot do totally unsweet) and nothing seemed to help. So then to add variety to my clear liquid diet (that I'll be on for 2 weeks post op) I tried 2 oz of apple juice mixed with 2 oz of Water. It tasted delicious and was a good break from broth and then it made me go #2. Each time I go potty I sit there for a minute and a ton of gas comes out. So long story longer, apple juice worked for me.... Also, one of my friends that had the surgery over a year ago said that she thinks I was drinking too much and too fast. I went back through my paperwork and it said 1 oz every 15 minutes and doing it that way you shouldn't drink more than 4 oz per hour (and you still can get in 64 oz per day). I felt like I was swallowing air each time I sipped so I think she was right. I slowed down and the gas was much better today. Hope this wasn't TMI, but if it helps you then I will share..

April 16th role call - who's with me!

What are u guys doing to pass gas, I think Ive only passed a handful of times and burped only once. Im walking too so Idk. I'll definitely try the latest dance rave- the "jiggle" haha. Thanks for the info.... The gas x strips have really helped me today. The dissolve on your tongue. Also, I mixed 2 oz of 100% apple juice (unsweetened) with 2 oz of Water and it made me go #2....and that really helped with gas, too. Sorry if that's TMI but I felt like it might be helpful to someone. So it sounds like our post op diets are as different as the pre-op diets. I can only have the clear liquid diet for 2 weeks. I can add skim milk on day 3 (tomorrow) but I hate milk....but I'm going to try it because they said it's very important to get 32 oz of skim milk and 32 oz of other fluids. So we shall see how it goes.

    Any April Sleevers?

Hey everyone. I know they gave me something in the hospital for heartburn but cant remember what...do you know what we can take within the first few days post op for heartburn? I tried to call my dr but they are already closed for the day. Too much lemonade crystal light has my chest on fire!

    Any April Sleevers?

Yes...my husband got me some on the way home. So far nothing has helped the gas part.....I'm thinking maybe I'm drinking too quickly. I'm even measuring it out in the medicine cups so who knows.... But honestly, if this is the worst, I'll be ok. Glad I'm keeping liquids down, etc. Happy to be home.

    Any April Sleevers?

Hello everyone. I had my surgery on the 16th and just got home a few hours ago. I walked a ton. I only got nauseous when they gave me the pain meds in my IV but they followed it with zofran and almost instantly the nausea went away.. But the gas pains....I cant get rid of them! Every sip I take feels like I'm swallowing a huge air bubble and I can feel gas just moving all over my abdomin and it hurts pretty bad. I usually have a high tolerence for pain but this feels like swallowing a rock. I walked and walked and walked at the hospital, which I was told was the best thing. Ive tried heating pad and warm liquids but still happening. Anyone else have it for several days? Other than that, I'm doing well.

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Sorry you are having so much trouble....they gabe me extra nausea meds because I told them I had a lot of trouble with nausea when I had my gall bladder out last year. But I would definitely stay on the IV. I was ready to get home because I didnt sleep at all last night at the hospital. Hope it goes better tomorrow!

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Yeah the gas pains are pretty bad...which I dont understand because I walked more than anyone on my floor in the past 24 hours. I did 15 laps and they said 25 was a mile so they were all cheering me on....but each sip of water or crystal lite feels like I'm swallowing straight gas bubbles. Anyone else having that issue?

April 16th role call - who's with me!

I just got home. I had my surgery yesterday at noon. Still having the gas pains. But I was ready to come home because I couldn't sleep with everyone coming in my room every few minutes. They gave me broth, crystal lite, Water, hot tea, and Jello. For some reason, the hot stuff went down nicely. The cold drinks felt like i was swallowing straight gas bubbles and were painful going down. I didn't even swallow the jello because the texture was just too weird for me.

April 16th role call - who's with me!

Hey ladies!!!! Had mine at noon. I just got done with the swallow test and I've been walking evry two hours. Only been nauseous twice so far which was as soon as they have me the pain meda. But they gave me zofran right away and the nausea went away quickly. I have pain from the gas trapped in my abdomen but if that would go away I think the rest of my tummy would just be super sore. Going a lot better than I anticipated. Had only ice chips so far. When you do the swallow test, if you brush your teeth as soon as you can afterwards the horrible bitter taste is gone and I think that helped me from getting sick afterwards. Im glad to hear the rest of you are doing well. I'll keep you posted.

April 16th role call - who's with me!

I have to be there at 9 tomorrow and surgery at 12. Let's do this!!! Did any of you have to drink a whole bottle of miralax today? I just did and it was pretty horrible. But I did it and I've almost made it through my clear liquid diet today without starving to death. Amazing the difference the protein shakes made a few days ago when I could have them.
