  2. Hey y'all. New to the forum and I have questions. I don't know if I should post this here, as I am pre-op, or post it elsewhere, because my questions are mostly for post-op. I was all set up last year to do the surgery, and stopped at the last minute. My primary doctor's secretary scared me, because she said all she could eat was salad, and she was a year post-op. Also, they told me I would have to 100% give up my caffeine free diet coke. 100%. :( So I waited for a while, and started thinking about it again, talking to a few people who'd done the surgery, read stories online, and found out that if all she could eat was salad, she had a problem and needed to speak to her doctor. So I came back, and talked to the surgeon again, because I want to do the surgery. This is my problem. I am having a hard time justifying having the surgery done, and this is the reason. My surgeon told me I'd have to give up carbs, grains and starches. Now, if I give up carbs, breads, pastas, rice, etc - what's the point in having the surgery at all? He said that I could eat small pieces of chicken breast, fish, etc, plus vegetables with no butter. If that's going to be my diet, why have the surgery at all? That would help with weight loss without the surgery. I'm just confused. Thanks in advance.

hey , I was the same but I had the surgery because I NEED that restriction .. Otherwise it's just too easy to over eat .. I could and can lose whieght without the band but I just put it back on , and more besides ? I am 10 weeks post op now and have lost 35lbs , it's not easy tho and it's a definite learning curve ..... Each day something I could have eaten before will not go down the next day ? But I would do it again ... I'm in this for the long haul for better health and more energy for my children . You can eat all sorts it depends on the person , I have fish every day , salads ,roasted veg , chicken , etc fruit , yogurts , the one thing that I cannot tolerate is bread of any sort , it just gets stuck , and I have tried lol . I have had two fills and I'm at 6 cc now in a 10 cc band I started off with four in my band when I had the op , but I'm in England so I think they do things a little different in the USA ? Hope this helps good luck xx

  3. Hi Kim! I was filled with 3cc's at the time of my surgery. My first fill was only 1cc. I am slowly but surely coming around to how and what my body can handle. I am trying to stay focused on what my body needs instead of what it wants. There is definetly a lot more to having the band than I could have imagined even after being told. I guess experience IS the best teacher :) That is awesome that you've made it back into the one hundreds!!! I am so ready for that as well. Well, good night and good luck to you.

I had my band 5 weeks ago and had first fill last week , bread was a nitemare !! Had two really bad episodes . I was really stuck and had to be sick , soon learned my lesson lol , I have a 10 cc band and had 4 cc primer , then first fill was 1 cc so 5 so far , and another fill on the 2nd of June , I have last 2 stone since my op , 1 and a half stone pre op ... Slow but steady .. Can't wait for more lbs to come off !! Hope everyone is doing well and healthy xx

  4. Congrats Christine!

well done !! I'm 3 weeks banded tomorrow and have lost 28 lb 23 pre op , I have to say my appetite is back but I'm trying to be careful , just spoke to the dietician and she has booked me for a fill on 13 may so just need to keep it real til then lol I have had two episodes of bringing food up , as I ate far too quickly , but it was ok as soon as I had got it out , how's all the April banders getting on ? Xx

  5. I was banded April 3, some days I am really hungry some I am not. My biggest thing is not being able to use the restroom....no one told me about that. I am also retaining Fluid in my legs, which is normal for me, but my body won't release it, so I am taking on OTC waterpill until I can get to the doctor tomorrow. I lost 10 lbs post op and 15 lbs post op so far. My first full is this Friday. I'd love to get in the gym, but 30 min of cardio isn't worth the drive.

ha I hear u with the restroom !! I have been really constipated for at least two weeks ! Only just getting back to normal now lol xx

  6. Hi all! I was banded April 15. Feeling pretty good 7 days post op. Yay for mushy foods today!! Back to work teaching tomorrow and follow up appt at surgeon on Thursday night.. Feeling pretty good!

hi all I'm 2 weeks banded now and doing ok .... But haven't lost any whieght ? I was on liquids for two weeks eg: slim fast shake and Soup lots of Water but still at my pre op whieght ? I did lose 21 lbs on the pre op which I did for two weeks but I'm disappointed really :-( I'm on mushy foods now and I'm scared because I feel I could really eat ? Not getting a band adjustment til may 13 th , I guess this is my time to prove to myself I have to be extra careful ? Any one else in the same boat ? Xx

  7. It's normal to feel pain in your shoulder after surgery. It's because they pump your abdomen with air for surgery so they have room to see. They take most of it back out, but some gets left over and it pushes on a nerve near your diaphragm that causes you to feel pain in your shoulder. It's a weird phenomenon! Walking is the only thing that will really help that kind of pain, and pain meds of course. But seriously, start walking around as much as you can! It gets everything inside moving and you'll feel better. As far as food goes, it's important to follow your doctor's instructions about what foods you can eat when. But it kind of sounds like they didn't give you very much information on that? Generally, people who get LapBand surgery start with a week or more of just liquids (like broth, tea, Protein Shakes, cream Soups, jello) and then move on to pureed foods (blended up foods that have the consistency of baby food like refried Beans, pudding, applesauce, etc.). After that it's usually mushy/soft foods (nothing crunchy or with hard chunks) and then on to whatever you can tolerate with the band. It's important to go slow with food at first because your stomach is irritated and swollen. If you push it, it can lead to complications like the band slipping. You can search for lots of info about food and diet on this forum, if you need more ideas. Best of luck to you :)

hi I have been reading your blog .. It's brilliant !! I'm 7 days post op now ... Feel much better I'm at a bit of a loss with food ... I'm kinda hungry but I'm trying to make sure on only have everything liquid , but I'm thinking are the soups a bit high in calories , I'm not getting low fat ones just normal creamed tinned Soup ? I'm having a slim fast shake in the morning , plenty of tea and maybe not as much Water as I should but at least a litre a day ,, the a low fat yogurt then some soup for my supper , does this sound ok ? I have spoke to the hospital and they said that it's fine cos I'm still healing ..... But I haven't lost anything this week ..... And I lost 23lbs in the month before my op ? I suppose I'm feeling a bit disappointed lol xx

  8. Short, firm karate chops to the back and shoulders get the gas out immediately!

it's wierd the pain in my shoulder goes , then all of a sudden I get a sharp pain ? Obviously it's still there lol I woke up last nite for the first time since having the op (day5) with a terrific pain on my left side around where my port wounds are ? It took my breath away .. Then I lifted my arm above my head and it went ? Really odd ? But I think I have been overdoing things to be honest , thinking I can just be mum and look after the kids / house / garden etc like before I forget I'm still healing , I'm going back to work Wednesday so that will be 10 days since op so hopefully I'll be back on track xxx

  9. Anybody else not hungry? Lol.

tbh I'm struggling with exactly what to have ? I get the Soups and shakes thing but I have to say it's getting a bit boring ? I must be getting better lol day 5 !! I'm not exactly hungry but look at food and think hmmm ?? I could eat that ? But I'm not actually hungry ? Maybe that's the whole point .... I always ate when I didn't need or want to before ? It's wierd xx

  10. hi iam doing well. 4 days post op still have gas pains ..walking as much as possible. How are you doing

better today thanks I feel and look like I have been hit by a car lol , bruising is quite bad the whole of my tummy is a nice shade of purple/ yellow , gas pains have finally gone !! Yay !! I think they are the worst bit ? , I'm feel a bit in shock like I have actually done it ? Looking forward to the summer and to not be constantly trying to cover up everything lol xx

  11. Yes! The worst bruise is where the port is. I dont find myself to be that hungry either and have only managed 16oz ofba Protein Shake all day so far. And have been walking as well. My stomach actually is making some growling sounds so I am going to attempt some soup! Lol. You can message me anytime to chat. Speedy recovery. :)

thanks, I'm in the uk so not many forums here cos it's not that common of an op,here , I .just had Soup, also,, I know this sounds wierd but I have been feeling really bloated and like I have stuffed myself so I thought hmmm .. Then realised I hadn't been for a number 2 (if you get my drift lol)!for 6 days !! So without all the gory details I have been ... And I feel,so much better !! Amazing the difference I felt , I was on a bit of a downer today thinking what have I dome ?? I can't feel like this for ever !! And all it took, was a clear out lol !! Sorry to be gross xxx

  12. Hello April Banders!! I was banded monday. All seems to be going well. I was kept overnight. I did have some gas pain but I did what everyone has said to do and tha is WALK. has helped soo much. Most of my pain is at the port location. The dr assures me its normal and will go away. Other than that I do feel pretty good. Good luck to all of you!

I was banded on Monday too !! Struggling to eat really the hunger is just not there now ? I have massive pain in my left shoulder so went on a good walk also today , how are your wounds ? I am so bruised !! I look like a car rolled over me lol xx

  13. Thanks for the replys everyone , this op is not that common over here so there's not many forums to get info off , so all your info is great !! Slept much better last night , today is day four and it's 8 am in the morn now , the time difference from you guys is not too bad , I only had to do a pre op diet for one week so it's still quite hard getting used to it , on the bright side tho , I had my first assessment on the 5 th march then scheduled my op for the 7 th of April , and in that time I lost excactly a stone and a half , for you guys that's 21 lbs ! I was so pleased ! I'm

Planning to do a good walk today so should help with the shoulder pain hopefully and I'm ok with my painkillers , just a lil sore , so all good so far xxxx

  14. My dr. didn't make me start a pre-surgical diet because of my bmi so I took the last week and a half to indulge in my Farewell to food Tour. Weighted myself. Went from 203 when I was first contemplating this in Feb to 212 today. Pretty short sighted on my part. The band can't come soon enough for me. 4 days to go!

I'm in at 7 am tomorrow !!! Wooohooooo !!!!xxx
