  1. Hi guys!

I am dealing with a family wedding in the midst of pre-op diet but it hasn't been too bad. Today will be a challenge - we are having the big reception with a lot of food and drinking and I will not be participating in those. Once my house full of company leaves I have massive cleaning to do to get ready for this Friday's surgery! I saw some photos of me in from the wedding and it just confirmed my decision!

Lyla - my hospital stay for the sleeve is one night so home on Saturday with no complications. I am glad you are doing 3 days before discharge. I had a friend you had plastic surgery down "south" and she had a wonderful experience and care. I am sure you will have the same experience!

We do need to come up with a name for our group? Any ideas?

  2. In the midst of my brother's wedding weekend and still following the pre-op diet. It hasn't been too difficult - I think other people feel worse about it than I do but I guess I need to get used to eating "differently" in front of others anyway. So glad we are getting a little group together to support each other :) Our surgeries are coming up fast! Jajmj - I haven't heard of Bariatric fusion - I will definitely need to check it out!

  3. yep my name is Barb. And you are Lyla? I am at 240 right now - highest was 243. I would be happy with 188 and 165? I can't even imagine because it has been so long! I call this "Custer's Last Stand" for me - nothing else seems to have worked so this is it! What is unflavored syntax? I haven't heard of that before?

  4. Hey Jajmj!

I can sure use a surgery buddy and I am sure the others feel the same way! I had to laugh at your comment of not chewing anyone's arm or head off. I have noticed I have been a "wee bit" crabby the last couple of days probably due to the diet change. My doctor had a "mandatory" pre-op nutrition class that I went to. It was very informative and gave me more of a medical appreciation for why they have us do the liquid diet. It is really for our benefit so I guess it makes me more compliant.

Hoping for an easy recovery for all of us! And lots of success!

  5. Hey Lylabelle!

I am also scheduled for May 30th! I am having the gastric sleeve locally in TX and my doctor wants me doing Protein shakes and one small meal a day with Protein and veggies. I have always done a Multi-Vitamin but picked up some Centrum chewables with Iron for post- surgery. Also need to get Calcium citrate chewables. And lots more Protein Shakes of course :-)

Good luck with your procedure! I am so excited for both of us!!

  6. Hey WillB,

I actually start my pre-op diet tomorrow for 2 weeks to do the same thing - shrink the liver. I can do Protein shakes and 1 meal a day with a Protein and vegetable. 2 days before I go to all liquids. It is interesting how much everyone's diet can vary! I am trying to get cleaning done etc too before the big day. My brother is getting married too next weekend so we will have a house full so I need to get ready for that! I already told him Protein Shakes only for me :-) and he was ok with that! We can still Celebrate without a lot of food! I did add you as a friend also! LOL - we have cats too!!

  7. Hi WillB!

I am having my surgery on the 05/30 and I am ready to get going! My process has been relatively smooth and I can't believe it is coming up this quickly. I am feeling the same as you - it turns out my 2 weeks before the surgery are very full of commitments made earlier this year so it should help make the time pass a little quicker and I won't have much time to think about it. I am having the sleeve not bypass but could always use more support too :-) It does seems like there is a lot of support on these forums too! Good luck!!!

  8. I am in the same boat - diets just don't work any more. I saw my regular doctor about 2 months ago and he recommended it (so did an endocrinologist I consulted.) My BMI is @ 40 and I have HBP. I am NOT 28 (lol) but still have a lot of living to do and the weight is holding me back. So glad for you that you are doing it at your age and can enjoy the rest of your life without wastng a the time and energy dealing with your weight!

  9. First time posting and just starting this journey. I am leaning towards the VGS but also considering bypass. My issue is my inability to lose weight. 2 years ago I had both a dietician & personal trainer working with me together for 7 months. Yes I built muscle over all but the first 6 weeks I lost only 3 pounds and then didn't lose a pound for the rest of the time I worked with them. And yes I followed the low carb low calorie diet to the letter. With this history (and lots of other diet attempts) if I do the surgery will I lose weight? I would hate to go through this and not be successful. And I have been to several doctors and just have sluggish metabolism but still normal. Has anyone else been through this with similar history and been successful??
