  1. I didn't start with a low BMI, but my starting weight was significantly lower than some. My starting weight was 225 - which put me at a BMI of 40. I actually had to gain a couple pounds when I was initially going through the paperwork so insurance would approve me. My current weight, as of this morning is 179.8 and my surger was on 5/23. My weight loss has been slow compared to some because I was a band to sleeve revision - but you know what? I really don't care how slow it comes off - the fact that it's coming off, and that I am in a size 12 is AMAZING to me!!! I haven't been this size since.... well, I might have been 12. Good luck!!
  2. I had my band to sleeve revision surgery on 5/23. I am doing well; healing, gaining some energy and progressing well with solid foods, but my weight loss seems extrememly slow, compared to others. I know "compared to others" is the problem and that we are all different and not supposed to compare, but you can't help but notice that some people seem to drop 50-60 pounds in the first few weeks. My SW was 225 and I lost 8 pounds on my two-week pre-op diet.and another 15 since my surgery date. I'm only down a total of 23 pounds. What am I doing wrong?????? Is anyone else who is a band to sleeve revision also experiencing slower-than-expected weight loss?

    MFP goals

Like livvsmum I use My Fitness Pal, and try very hard to keep carbs below 30 g per day and have been getting between 60-70 g Protein each day. Where I struggle is with my Water intake. I make it a point every morning to say that I'm going to do better today, but I don't get that much in. It's hard with having to wait 30 minutes after eating something and trying to stop drinking at least 15 minutes before you start to eat. I'm just not a big fan of plain water and need to add some crystal light or something to make it taste better. But I don't really worry about calories; just try to avoid the carbs and sodium as much as possible.

    May Sleever Roll Call

I was a band to sleeve revision on 5/23. I am one ounce away from having lost 30 pounds. To some, this may seem slow, but according to several different scales I've seen, based on my SW of 225, it is quite good. I am now 196. The BMI charts say I have another 63 lbs to lose, but I may be happy somewhere around 145. We'll see... I've got a ways to go but taking it one day at a time.
  5. Finally made it to ONEderland!! Currently down 27 pounds.

    May 19-23 Sleevers, Roll Call!

I was band to sleeve revision on 5/23. My SW was 225 and lost 8 pounds on my 2 week pre-op diet. Lost another 15 pounds since surgery, for a total (so far) of 23 pounds. I thought this was slow, as compared to many, but after reading many of your posts here and knowing we're all around the same timeframe.... maybe we're all exactly where we're supposed to be! I've heard that for whatever reason, revision patients seem to lose the weight slower than virgin sleevers. I don't know why that is - maybe it has something to do with the fact that we were already used to eating smaller poritons due to the lap band, so our bodies don't go into quite as much shock... I don't know. Either way, having the weight come off slower is both good and bad. Good because maybe we won't have all that loose, hanging skin and bad because it is FRUSTRATING!! I'm feeling pretty good for the most part. No pain whatsoever anymore, just get tired easier than I used to. I'm having a difficult time getting all my fluids in. In fact, I'm lucky if I reach 30 oz. let alone 64! I know, that's bad. I've tried to increase my Protein intake though, and seems to make a difference. Good luck to all!

    Slow weight loss?

Thanks Fluffnomore! I wasn't expecting to drop 50-60 pounds inn a few weeks, just noticed that some do. I know my starting weight wasn't as high as some, but it was big enough for me. Just don't want to feel discouraged, and as we already know - since the lap band failed, that is one of my biggest concerns. I just don't think I can mentally taken another failure, but I don't see this as failing. Just slower than some.

  11. I am doing well, seem to be progressing nicely. My weight loss has been a little slower than some, but I've heard this is common with revisions. Since stating my 2-week preop edit on 5/9 I am down 23 pounds.
  12. How are you doing post surgery??

    May 2014 Sleevers

Gettinfit, I wish you the best of luck on your journey. Yes, it is a lot easier said than done, but when I am being rational and thinking clearly, I realize that child birth also wasn't a walk in the park - and look at those rewards! I know this is what I need to do, I just get scared, and then start to talk myself out of it. One and a half weeks from now, it'll all be over, and then the journey can truly begin.
  14. Sweetie716, I have not had my surgery yet. I am scheduled for May 23rd, and will absolutely be sure to log in and share my experiences!!

    May 2014 Sleevers

Skinnymama & ANuMe2014, I am right in between the two of you - I am having band to sleeve revision surgery 5/23. Looking forward to going through this journey with all of the May Sleevers!!!
  16. No girliegirl, I am having both the band removed, and the sleeve done on 5/23.
  17. Sweetie716, you are posing some very good, and very important questions. I have not yet had my surgery, but am scheduled for 5/23, and although am much closer along in the process than you, can absolutely relate to your concerns. I can especially relate to your question #2. I have been overweight my entire life, and I will turn 43 this year. I have NEVER been successful at a single diet (and trust me, if it's out there, I've probably tried it) I even have a lap band, and didn't succeed with that. For me, I don't consider losing 40 pounds to be a success when I need to lose more like 100, and one of my biggest problems is that I am addicted to food. As PdxMan said above, I use food for everything! Celebration and sorrow. I grew up where we "celebrated" both Easter and Passover; Christmas and Hanukkah - but that meant eating! Oh, it's Easter, what are we making for dinner? It's Passover, let's make the Matzoh ball soup! Even romantic evenings with my Husband - let's get wine and cheese. I have to learn how to deal with that and find a new hobby. Maybe a new vice. Hopefully, it can be something healthy. Maybe I'll learn to love working out (but seriously not about to bet any money on that). Either way, I know I need help, and I cannot and have not done it alone. WLS is my "most extreme last chance". Good luck - we're all here with you!!
  18. Domika03 what are the numbers next to each item, like the 14 next to the baked fish?

    On The Other Side

Hopeful, did you have the clearance to start lifting weights? I wonder what caused the swelling? I have heard that the weight loss for us can be slower, but I don't understand why. I have had my band unfilled for a couple weeks now, and can eat without any restriction - so it isn't just that my body is used to smaller quantities of food.
  20. Welcome! My revision surgery is scheduled for 5/23 (my surgeon is doing both the removal and the sleeve the same day). So we will both be May Sleevers!! I can absolutely relate to what you said. I lost a total of 40 pounds with my lap band (but that is TOTAL, including the 17 I lost during the 2-week pre-op diet). For so long I was too embarrassed to tell anyone I had a lap-band, and I also avoided going back to my surgeon for an adjustment because I was ashamed that "I had failed". It wasn't until recently that I learned how many people experienced the very same results and then I began to realize that it was the band that failed - not me. You will do great! Keep us posted on how you're doing after your band is removed Monday. Wishing you a speedy recovery and look forward to moving onto the losers bench with you.

    On The Other Side

Congratulations, I know you must be so glad that it is done, and the worrying and axiety about whether or not to do it is done! Like you, I also will be a band to sleeve revision and I'm scheduled to have it done 5/23. How was the nausea afterwards? I heard it can be a little worse, because there is more manipulation of the stomach, due to having the band removed. Please share what you found helpful.

    May 2014 Sleevers

My surgery is scheduled for May 23rd, and I. Am both super excited and really nervous. From reading all the posts here, I know this is normal but so many emotions. This may be the hardest part.

    Any May sleevers out there?

I got my date today.... May 23rd!! I asked to have it around Memorial Day weekend since I don't have much time off available so having one extra day when the company is closed will help. I start my 2-week pre-op diet May 15th. Super excited (and a little nervous as well). So looking forward to being on the losers bench with y'all!!
  24. Wow, first let me say I can completely understand your frustration! I have not yet had my surgery but I will be a band to sleeve revision, and just getting up to this point has been extremely frustrating. I decided to take extreme measures almost 4 years ago when I was first banded, and here I am now, still overweight, feeling like a failure, and having to go through all of these emotions all over again. But enough of the negative! Congratulations on your success so far. I have read hundreds of posts on here, and one thing is guaranteed -- we will all plateau. Some may only last 3 days, some up to two weeks. And although you already said you don't want to hear it, many people have said the way they have jump started their weight loss again, is by doing something different. One girl mentioned adding a tsp. of fat (olive oil) - maybe you're actually eating too little? I don't know what the answer is, but even if you do absolutely nothing different, the weight loss will continue if you stick with the plan. As for the hair loss, it is a HUGE concern of mine also. Also just like you said, my hair is "my thing". I may be overweight, may not have porcelain skin complexion, but I have always gotten compliments on my hair. That is another thing people say gets better over time, but for your daughter's wedding, if it will make you feel better go and get yourself a hair piece! But you will look absolutely beautiful regardless of whether you have thick hair, thin hair, or no hair! You are just dealing with an awful lot right now, and I bet it is quite overwhelming. When you start feeling like this, go for a walk or start a journal, or if you still have any - go try on a pair of your largest size pants and I bet you will start to feel even just a tiny bit better. Best of luck to you, and keep up the great work!!
