  1. I'm in the same boat. :/ I was sleeved on 3/31 and given the goal to lose 20-25 lbs per month. On surgery day, I weighed 330. The first month, I lost about 25 and then 10 the 2nd month and about 10 the 3rd. I went through the famous 3 week stall... and I bounce back and forth between 5lbs. It's frustrating. Unfortunately, my bariatric team is 2 hours north of me and I had to postpone my 3 month appt. I'm thinking I should check in with them and see what kind of advice they have for me. Just wanted to chime in that you're not alone.
  2. I got hives on the tops of my thighs and the backs of my upper arms 1 week post-op and it was from the Centrum chewable vitamins.

    Sleevers over 300lbs?

I started the bariatric program in January 2013 at my highest weight of 390. I lost 60lbs and met all of the other requirements for surgery in March. Weighed 330 on surgery day and I've been in the "3-week stall" for about a week and teetering between 301-304. My surgeon gave me a goal to lose 100-120lbs in 6mos. What I have lost is my motivation to walk, so I'm trying to get my stuff together. I go back to work in a few weeks and will be sitting on my butt all day...I'm worried but also excited to be away from temptations of home food. I'm proud of my progress so far...no complications...just gotta keep on keeping on.
  4. I feel that it's a waste of money, most of the time, but if we choose a restaurant that will have descent options for me and doggie bags, then I don't worry about it.

    Just curious

I'm only 3.5 weeks post op... I started the bariatric program in January 2013 at 390 and lost 60lbs and got my date in March. I weighed 330 on surgery day and today I weigh 304... my surgeon gave me a goal to lose 100-120lbs in 6mos.
  6. Yes. 5lbs is great! They aren't going to cancel your surgery over it.
  7. I weigh every morning after I pee. Never thought I'd be an everyday weighed but I am also aware of the fluctuations and I don't trip because I know I'm doing great and I know how to keep the scale moving in the right direction.
  8. Protein drink for bfast Couple slices of Turkey, light string cheese, yogurt,or cottage cheese for lunch or random combos of any of those.. Protein drink booster/snack Chicken, burger, Turkey, beans or something from the lunch list.. Trying to incorporate veggies and fruit here and there
  9. I was also sleeved 3/31 and have been having this exact issue. It's funny because I had never experienced constipation before and now I'm more familiar with it than I ever care to be. I think I was over doing it on the iron, so I cut back on that, then I tried milk of magnesia, as recommended by my bariatric program, but that didn't work, until I did several doses, so I added a daily stool softener and I'm trying to add more fiber and more exercise. I see my pcp for the first time since surgery in a week. I guess if I'm still having issues, I will see what he thinks. Might have to go back to coffee...

    Need advice

I'm a sweets lover too...my entire family is..only, I'm the only one who is obese. I was originally going to get the bypass surgery because I thought I needed more control, but I am not a candidate because I have COPD and have to take Prednisone a few times per year. I was sleeved on 3/31 and my cravings for sweets have diminished!! I have lost 22 lbs in 18 days. I can't even drink my protein powder shake mix because it is too sweet...have to stick to th pre-made stuff.

    Sleeved 3-26, complications

I was sleeved on 3/31andthere is no way I would tolerate not being able to keep anything besides water down for more than a week past surgery. I would go to the ER *and* get a more realistic solution to this. 30lbs in 2.5 weeks is too much. What about nutrients and vitamins?
  12. So I'm THREE days away from my surgery...more than a year into this program.my surgery is covered by my state insurance and I have complied to every criteria they have laid out. 6 months of nutrition classes, endoscopy, psych testing, quit smoking, don't do druids, don't drink, gave up coffee, lost 49 lbs, got the IVC filter...and 4 days before the surgery, they decide because I mentioned once in one of my many doctor visits in the past 6 months that I drink occasionally, that I did not follow the criteria for my state to cover the surgery. The thing is. I haven't had a drink, but I have consumed alcohol at random points in my life...weddings...party...once in a blue moon. I had to practically beg the lady at my state insurance co to believe me and I got an "I'll email the decision team and we will let you know." For real? Can this be before I start the Clear liquids diet on Wednesday and are you trying to test me??? Ugh. Thanks for letting me vent.
  13. I was sleeved on 3/31 and am having the same issues... I'm finally 2lbs below my weight hours before surgery..and I expected to gain from the ivs..my surgeon said 10lbs...to which I replied..oh I doubt I'm going to be too concerned about that at first haha...but here I am fretting. Also having very difficult time getting in my Water. I always have a dry mouth...but my urine is straw colored so maybe it's meds? Protein, I think I'm ok on... I don't know... I feel like a freshman on the first day of school, everyday. My first follow-up is tomorrow so I guess ill find out if I'm doing ok then. Hang in there everyone!

    meds

I also take about 10-15 pills per day...I'm 6 days post open. No problems. I used to take them all in the morning, but now I space them out throughout the day.
  16. I am expecting to have at least one protein shake meal per day from here on out..I don't cook much...I don't eat breakfast...it's guaranteed protein...and I don't hate them.

    Post Opp diet

My doc said to advance to stage 2 diet upon discharge from the hospital. This includes a pre determined amount of the following... yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, cream of wheat, jello, soup, SF pudding for one meal and 60 - 80 oz protein via shake broken into meals or however we can get it in us...sipping all day, whatever.....it trips me out that some people are still on clear liquids for weeks.
  18. I had my surgery on 3/31 and also had an unknown hiatal hernia repair and as soon as they took the pain med button away and tried to replace it with weak pain meds, I was miserable. I couldn't move. I couldn't take deep breaths..i felt like I got punched in the sternum. I could walk but I paid for it. I cried. Thank goodness the surgeon came in to see me right away. She said the hernia makes for a couple extra, deeper stitches and can cause more pain and she put me back on the pill form of the original pain med and I'm 5 days post op and much, much better. Hang in there!
  19. I'm in the same boat. I had my surgery on Monday and yesterday and today I was able to drink an entire 11 oz premier protein shake in less than an hour. I was kinda worried about that too. I'm sure it worked...and of course solid food is different but sometimes I get pain from two swings of water...it's so random... :?

    abnormal echocardiogram

I had a stress test in December and a few abnormalities showed y so I had to go to a cardiologist to get clearance. Just as the previous poster said, the cardiologist said that many of the tests come back abnormal because of the layers of fat and my particular cardiologist said he didn't think bariatric surgeons should do routine stress tests anyways for this very reason. After several KEGs, I got clearance and was sleeved on 3/31.

    10% weight lost?

I was required to lose 15% of my initial starting weight as a safety precaution because losing weight makes your liver shrink, lessening the risk- during surgery. I always thought they wanted us to lose a little weight to show an effort..
  22. I have high blood pressure but it is regulated with meds. Blood pressure is one of the things that having this surgery helps you to fix, so I can't see it being a reason for denial. Maybe I am misunderstanding your question. I would get with your pcp and work on getting the hypertension under control.. I have pulmonary hypertension as well as regular hypertension and I thought for sure that would make me ineligible for anesthesia or something but I was good to go and was successfully sleeved on March 31st! Other tests I had to undergo for the surgery were an endoscopy, a stress test, psych eval, nutrition courses...
  23. I was only required to lose 35lbs but I lost 60 and my liver was still very large and difficult to maneuver around. My surgeon mentioned that the other lobe was smaller, but not the side that needed to be...but all went well anyway..just took longer.
  24. I lived on water, broth, SF green or yellow Jello, clear low calorie juices, and SF lemonade JUICE BAR type popsicles.
