It's totally up to the hospital and you'd have to know who to call. But that would break from their normal process. Is it a cost Issue because of the difference or more the concern that inpatient is more care? They can always keep you for 3 days in the same day surgery unit. That's also a possibility. And still not inpatient.

I think you've had surgery. So better safe than sorry?

It can be 5 days or longer. Depends on the bcbs and what they have in queue ahead of you. I would call everyday and confirm they have received it and forwarded it.

The folks who after surgery - as you posted - request the 2 night extension to inpatient. Is the hospital. Not the doctor. The hospital will call/notify the carrier of the admission. Not the doctor. All the doctor is able to request is his surgery approval and tell the carrier where you will be in hospital. Hospital then does everything else. Yes this is normal

A couple reasons: your insurance won't approve an inpatient stay at the request of a doctor - it is really the hospital who has to intervene and they won't until they need to Insurance won't approve it unless it's absolutely medically necessary. If the majority of sleeves are done in a 23 hour stay (they are) there is no need unless you have a medical condition that warrants it. Think severe issues like a heart condition, your age, certain co morbidities. It's unfortunate but your 15% will cap off at the max out of pocket

Pre op for me was a blood test, EKG, and since my pcp did my preop I also got a b12 shot

And another thing. Claims are not paid based on what the auth originally stated. It is based on what is billed and if the hospital feels you're inpatient they'll update the auth.

It really isn't the surgeon who has control here. At least not much. The surgery is submitted as outpatient for many people. You are usually there for an overnight stay. If you are there for 24 hours or more than the stay can be converted to inpatient and at that point it's the hospital who takes over and requests the approval or sends a notification to the carrier. You will pay 15% of the outpatient charges as follows : 1- bcbs has some really great rates. The hospital charge will be a charge but you pay 15% of what bcbs APPROVES. Which is significantly less 2- you will pay up to your total yearly out of pocket. At that point bcbs pays in full for the remainder of the year. All claims for medical services go towards a maximum out of pocket. Call bcbs and find out what your max is and how much you've got left. That is your maximum payment. Went back this Monday as well. Thankfully I worked from home this week as I think if I were in the office id have jumped out the window. The first day I blocked my entire calendar and all I was trying to do was read the couple hundred emails that had piled up and reaching out to those covering for me to ensure things had been addressed. And so that is where the stress began. Clearly no one read the out of office, listened to the voice mail ooo and so I spend the majority of Monday and Tuesday trying to resolve all the emails that now have gone weeks without a response. I fell asleep yesterday at 5 pm and again today. Slept for an hour each time. I was just brain dead.

If it's a straight exclusion than you won't win. However who will it hurt to appeal?!?!? Go for it! Also you should try to purchase private insurance through an exchange that gives you this coverage it would be cheaper than self pay. You can always drop it afterwards. You will have to meet their precertofication guidelines obviously may delay you a bit. But something to seriously consider.

Also June 24. Struggling with Water intake but food am ok. Head hunger is atrocious. But I am real hunger too. I try to eat every 2-3 hours so I don't get ravenous. I feel great except for acid. On soft foods. So a lot of meats and not having issues with them for the most part. I am still only able to do 500 or so calories a day though Haven't lost anything in a week or so Lost 11 pounds since surgery and 26 total to date with pre op

And of course eggs! Egg white omelets. Poached eggs. Etc I did do scrambled once but u like those well done and did not go down well. If you can make them 'wet' then you'll be great I didn't have problems with chicken at all. Just add a little chicken stock and blend it up

7 weeks?!? Wow god bless you During purée I ate cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken and pork and turkey in my cuisinart and added liquids to make it a little purée The pork I gotta say I added BBQ sauce just a little so I could get the taste.

Mine was triggered by fat and sugar. Follow your diet religiously. I thought hummus was ok I was 10 days out. Hubby went to an Arabic restaurant and got hummus and falafel. I had a bit if falafel (deep fried) and two tablespoons of hummus. It had oil all over top. Didn't make it more than 15 minutes and it was all out of me. The second time I went for frozen yogurt that it was assured was fat free sugar free. Took 3 bites and it was nasty and about an hour later. Repeat of the dumping.

Was sleeved on June 24. Never had heartburn or acid and I do now. Doc says it usually lasts small amount of time maybe 30 days. I take omeprazole once a day and it's tolerable Doc said if I had regular heartburn he would do a bypass. But i never had it ore surgery

That's not dumping Dumping is where in undigested food end up in your small intestine and evacuates itself rather quickly You suffer hot flashes. Cold chills and then really bad diarrhea within 30 minutes usually.

Check in was 8:25 and surgery was to be 10:25 but prior ran long and was 11:00. Things happen. I don't think you'll be rescheduled
