  1. I'm still taking Ambien C R. I been taking it a few years now. I guess they go thru easy. I don't have any restriction. I take B-complex & a multi seniors Vitamin pill. Also a large neuro -ps pill. I'll have to change the way I do things if I ever get a fill. I have tried to go without ambien but cannot sleep. The hardest part of the band & ambien for me is staying away from food. Ambien alone will cause me to mindlessly eat. I try to be careful. Hope this helps. sleep has a lot to do with weight loss, I'm just now learning. Hasta Pronto, George:thumbs_up:

Ambien is one of the meanest sleep meds I've ever tried! My aunt took it and made phones calls all through the night to her kids, my mom took it and started eating all night, AND walking into walls (BRUISES EVERYWHERE, FALLS DOWN THE STAIRS, HOSPITAL VISITS), I took it for awhile and my husband had great sex :crying:(so he says) that I DON'T REMEMBER!

I don't mind great sex, but I would at least like to remember it!:)

Anything that can remove all your sensibilities should be take warily. There are other sleep meds that Don't make you a senseless vombie, or leave you with a HORRIBLE HEADACHE later on down the road.

If you know it makes you sleep eat, GET OFF IT!

    Artist, Hero, Friend, And Father

    Artist, hero, friend, and father

For me, I would have chosen no other.

You're a guiding light, in an oasis of pain

    Laughter in the pouring rain.

You've taken me to banana moons,

And even timed me out in my room.

    Artist, hero, friend and father,

I love you like no other..

You are My hero, My friend,

    My Father....

  3. I have started to keep a food journal again. I'm not eating a lot, but I sure do drink coffee! Actually some days I am so hungry that I can eat all day, and other days nothing is good.

Someone told me brush my teeth more frequently on the hunger days because the taste of toothpaste makes all food taste bad.

Tomorrow I go in to weigh and see how bad I really have been!

  4. i have not heard of this magazine variations. Is that like pent house or something?

My daughter is trying to talk me into one of those "fun parties" maybe that's what i need so i can look at stuff. I know there are sex toys but i have never seen anything except for a vibrator called a magic

    bullet.

the fun parties can be a blast!

  5. i agree. Men dont want to feel like they need to be told how to do it but the fact is sometimes they do need to be told. So you got to be o so careful.

Of course we want to feel like a super stud but you can tell us how to become a better one. Thats why places like this are good. You can get a feel for what women want.

i, for one, am glad you're in here. I appreciate your perspective.

  6. OK I WAS BANDED A WEEK AGO. MY DISCHARGE PAPERS SAID NO SEX BUT IT DIDNT SAY WHY. TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY. IT SUCKS. WHEN CAN I HAVE SEX?????? AS LONG AS IM NOT IN PAIN CAN ME AND MY MAN GET IT ON ???:tt2::):):crying:

You need your protien and vitamins

  8. Ok, so the hubby is insistant I spoil myself for my birthday. Well ok, he actually had to twist my arm for it cause I don't like spending lots of money on me.

Well anyhow, July 15th hair highlights and a new phone (the apple iPhone 3rd generation 8gig, or 16 gig if I can get a good deal). Then on my birthday I am getting a brazillian wax and back/neck massage. FINALLY on August 15th I am getting a manicure and pedicure.

I know why break it up, but see here is how it is. It was the ONLY way he could get me to agree to it all. I don't agree with spending that kind of cash on me, when I can get the boys or the hubby so much with it. SO, he said no, this is for your birthday you either find a way to make it work for you, or I call and make the appointment and pay for it all in one go NOW.

Yeah, he won this round ...

    *complains*

Am I alone in not wanting that much money spent on me? I mean really how do you handle that kind of cash being spent on you in one sitting (including tips we are looking at damn mean 400-450)??? I hate the idea but hey, he said I have managed to worm my way out of him spending money on me one to many times and he will WILL win this round even if it means he pays NOW from the sand box.

    Am I just that weird?????

Not weird, Most likely a MOM?

    I am the same way/

  9. Does anyone know what causes salt and ice cravings. I am having a terrible time with this and it certainly doesn't help with swelling.:confused2: I could /have literaly lick the salt off a bag of sea salt and vinegar chips!

  10. That is all! :biggrin2::biggrin2:

I admit I was down snoopin in the powder room and them wimmins have much more interesting discussions than what goes on here :D

Next on the agenda....trying to convince the wife "it is only 15 more calories"

Everyone have a great weekend and keep on losing!!!!

    dab

you're right our room is more interesting and "it has zero calories, and 100 % protien" that's 15 less calories for your wife

  11. Does losing a large amount of weight have a dramatic affect on severe sleep apnea? I attend my first orientation soon so it will be awhile until I have surgery. As one who suffers from severe apnea and can't tolerate CPAP I am curious as what results to expect from being banded. My BMI is 40.3.

The band and the 45 I have lost thus far have had an amazing effect on my sleep apnea! Getting the band was worth it for that alone! It has also taken me off the borderline diabetes line.

  12. I was banded Dec 21, 07. I have 3cc of fill in a 10cc band. I would say that not 3 days go by without me having to throw up most of my meals. I am really frustrated. I KNOW that I am not getting enough nutrition. the things I can eat are weird. I can handle filet mignon, but can't handle ground meat or much else in that department. I can handle cruncy failry easily. I can even eat popcorn. I still can't eat bread at all. I can handle some veggies. This morning, I tried to eat some chicken and after 3 bites, I had to stop because I could tell that I was stuck.

Also it takes me so long to eat that I get frustrated and just stop eating my meal. I do not feel badly at all, but know that this isn't right. My followup care hasn't been ideal from the physician standpoint and sort of get platitudes from them. When I told him about the problems last month, he just stated that he was surprised that I was having issues but really didn't really offer any suggestions.

Any help would be appreciated. I love having the band, but am really frustrated about what I can and cannot eat. I find that I am not eating anything but filet mignon (expensive..and steak doesn't go down as easily), sometimes scrambled eggs. Protein shakes have been my salvation.

thanks for any help you can give me.

    Mari...Washington

try shaved ice if possible throughout the the day (wal mart has the the machines on sale). fresh smoothies with protien added are great meal replacements) drink warm liquids at least an our before eating. chew thoroughly, and stay away from Pasta, rice, bread, ie starches. remember, you don't need to eat as much now. Just get the protien and take your Vitamins. naked fruits has some good protien drinks or make your own. I use vanilla Atkins (extra protien one 15 grams) as a base and add frozen fruits to my blender

  13. I'm feeling really depressed.

I got my band on May 12th. It hasnt been as easy as everyone told me. My recovery was decent but my fills.... an absolute nightmare.

The first fill took NINE stabs with that huge needle. Let me say that I did agree to the 9 stabs because I am pretty tough and I didnt want to come back another day to go under the ultrasound. I have a 1 and 2 yr old and no babysitter. My hubby stayed home that day to keep them.

This past Thursday I went for my 2nd fill. I had lost 4 lbs in 4 weeks but he still yelled at me. Apparently I cant do anything right. He got a little saline happy and gave me 5ccs in my 9 cc band. It once again took 9 stabs and we both wanted me to get good restriction. I threw up a few times but honestly thought that I was ok. I left and went home.

I realized about 6 that evening that I couldnt "tough it out" and something was VERY wrong. I called and was told by the on call to go to the ER. I got there at 11pm. I waited until 6am for a bed. I literally threw up 60 times. My saliva was pooling in my pouch and when it filled up I would throw up. I got an IV and zofran. My surgeon showed up around 7. He was pretty nice. He took all 5 cc out and put 4 back in. I stayed for 2 hours and drank an entire cup of Water (slowly) and kept it down.

I could barely drink today and I did manage to nibble a little. I finally feel better.

I was so upset Thurs night that I was swearing I would rather have just died fat. This has been a nightmare. I've lost 15 lbs since May 12th.

I feel like I'm destined to fail at this because I cant even get the fills right.

    Thanks for listening.

    Carol

Your Dr needs a good smack for the 9 stabs, and and a second for the yelling. Ask your ins if another dr is available.

  14. About a month ago I ate something mid-morning and got the stuck feeling but didn’t vomit. When I tried to eat lunch that day, I couldn’t keep anything down. I kept vomiting what appeared to be thick saliva. This went on for the remainder of the day and got to the point where I couldn’t keep liquids down. It was like the liquid would hit the thick crap in my esophagus and bounce right back up. It wasn't long before I gave up on eating/drinking for that day, took some gas-x strips, went to bed and hoped to wake up to a better day…which I did.

This past weekend I swallowed a bit of food and immediately wanted it back. Apparantly I didn’t chew it well enough b/c I got the stuck feeling. Then my saliva maker went into overdrive so I headed outside. I barely got outside before I threw up what appeared to be the thickest saliva ever made by man. It was thick and slimy! Since it was 100 degrees outside, I drank some Water. The Water didn’t pass and I felt like I was choking. So I stuck my finger down my throat. When I did so, it was like breaking a vacuum seal because I burped and then the water came spewing out.

Given the weather conditions, I couldn’t go an entire day without eating or drinking like I did the first time this happened so I tried to think of what I could do. Since water wasn’t going down I thought soda might be an option. I felt that the soda might be able to act as a human friendly drain-o to clear this crap that was keeping me from eating/drinking. I didn’t have any scientific evidence to back this up but it was all I could come up with.

So I got a diet coke (my first since being banded). The first sip came back up. However, every sip after that went down easier and easier. After the 30+ minutes it took me to drink the can, I was feeling better. A few hours after that, I was able to hold food down again.

So now you have the background (sorry so long). Here are my questions. What in the hell was I vomiting? Why does this happen? How do I keep it from happening? What’s the solution if it happens to happen again….Was the soda a good choice? Has it happened to you.

I’d appreciate any experiences/advice that my banded family can provide. This is/was a pretty scary situation for me.

    Thanks!!

Stay away froom the soda!! It can stretch your stomach. If you must have soda drink it flat.

Welcome to the world of PRODUCTIVE BURPING OR PB's!

You get these for many reasons-not chewing thoroughly, swallowing air, band overfill, eating something that gets stuck(rice, breads, pasta). The best way to get over quickly (this I know from experience) is SHAVED ICE! iT WORKS IMMEDIATELY.

Sometimes, I will place a warm heating pad on my chest if it is extra bad, it helps with the soreness.

The PB's are in my case-self inflicted by not thinking or eating too early in the day. As you sleep and rest your body relaxes and as your stomache gets smaller from not eating the band gets tighter. This is why is feels tighter in the am (for me) My dr recommended warm liquids before food to get it loosened. I don't eat until almost 11 am, any sooner and my body is not ready. Then my day is shot!

  15. Helpppp! I need some positive words of encouragement. I can eat a large amount before i feel full. I am scareddd. when i first came out of surgery and for the following few days, it only took about 4 oz of food to fill me up. all the paperwork i have from the doc and dietician says to eat until i feel full or until i feel pressure. The problem is i can eat as much as i could before being banded and still don't feel pressure. It takes a lot to fill me up (3 cups easy). I do not eat and drink at the same time. I am eating what i am supposed to and i have 2 more wks before my first fill. I have gained back 5 lbs of the 12 i lost after surgery. I am really feeling discouraged and frustrated. I'm not ready to give up but am seeing it impossible to lose weight when i am allowed to eat this much. Did anyone else experience this before their first fill? PLEASE RESPOND. i need to know i am not alone in this.

first to remember-YOU ARE RECOVERING.YOU MOST LIKELY still haVE some SWELLING STILL, SIMPLY DON'T FEEL VERY GOOD. That in itself it discouraging. You most likely do not have anything in your band yet-my dr left mine empty so the swelling would have time to go down. This is ok and you will be as well. It took me 4 fills to really notice it. What I did was stay on softs like applesauce, sugar free Jello, protien juices and baby food until my first fill. When I was hungry I went to the sugar free Jello and pudding.

You will be ok. You are changing your body and change is uncomfortable. Don't fret just yet. It will get better.
