    Hospital gown

None of the group of about 12 had anything under the hospital gowns. We were told to strip down to nothing. There was one lady who was a fashionista and wore her leopard robe with her fuzzy pink slippers. All the rest of us were just hospital gowned. Some wore slippers, some the non-skid socks they put on you ... as for me, my Birkenstocks suited me just fine!

    1st July Sleevers

As far as driving goes, I was told it would be discussed at the two week post op appointment. May be a little while.

Scared for 2 week liquid diet

I can tell you one of the things I learned on my liquid pre-op ... homemade broth is so much better tasting, less salty, and more filling. If I had a family to cook for, they could have had some of the veggies, or rice/noodles ... because hubby and I were both doing broths, it was wonderful for us! Here is a recipe for the vegetable broth I made http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/basic-vegetable-stock-recipe.html I also used an ear of corn, tomatoes, and green peppers (don't roast the tomatoes and green peppers though, cook them in the soup pot about 10 minutes before adding the rest of the stuff). I also added some extra Water, the extra veggies more than made up for it. Good luck and you'll be fine! Just keep your eyes on the prize!

    1st July Sleevers

It's all been said ... I'm just so looking forward to it all being over and a week or four out. I pray it goes well for all of us and we'll be home on Wednesday and recovering with our loved ones.

How often do you step on the scale?

I don't have surgery until July 1, but for over a year, I weigh daily. I do so because I hold huge amounts of Water and if I don't know what I weighed the day before, had a gain, I wouldn't know what the gain was. There are times I can gain 8 or more in one day. How will it be later? I don't know. Could be I'll just get on the scale backwards and let hubby keep track of it for me. Then if there is something to be concerned about, take a Lasix and potassium tablet and trust everything is going to be okay.
  7. In my best singing voice, "Awesome"!
  8. Amsterp, I didn't mean to step on your toes! I'm just telling you the only thing my insurance required was a psych evaluation. Nothing else. My surgeon required everything else so my health was his priority. I was approved by my insurance in March. Surgery is scheduled for July 1.
  9. Sodas are not allowed on my pre-op.
  10. It took me about 5 months from start to surgery date. I think this is pretty normal in a lot of cases. That was just for the psych evaluation, cardiology approval, sleep study (another), upper GI, and various other tests, then waiting for the surgeon to have an open date (another 3 months).

    Lost only 13 pounds

What I wouldn't give to lose 13 pounds in a week ... a single week! That said, what were your expectations? Were you comparing yourself to someone who weighs/weighed a lot more than you? I would hope, being over 300 pounds that I would be able to lose 5 or 6 pounds in a week. I would be over the top at 13. I guess it all just depends on your expectations. Good luck in your journey.
  12. Hubby has been on the liquid diet with me as a show of support. This morning when he weighed, he discovered he's 1 pound away from no longer being obese! He's so grateful I'm doing this because he's almost 'just overweight'. Also, his blood sugar level with medications was lower this morning than it has been in years.

    Weight loss on pre-op diet

This is my sixth day of pre-op diet. I gained 1 3/4 pounds the first two days, saw my pcp and he gave me other Water pill and potassium tablet to go with it. He is also going to run a blood test on Friday to ensure my electrolytes are in balance before Tuesday's (7/1) surgery. I have started to make my own stock (both veggie and chicken) with just adding a tip of a teaspoon of store bought bouillon for the salt content (I'm not putting in ANY salt). I'm now down 5 1/2 pounds. I'm drinking about 100 oz. of water a day, having 2 Protein shakes (50 grams of protein) and my homemade stock. It's a lot easier than I anticipated.
  14. That is amazing ... you look fantastic!
  15. It's just hubby and I and I'm a phenomenal cook. I made some chicken stock yesterday and when I strained it and put it into quart containers, realized I made about 1 1/2 gallons. How did you adjust to cooking small portions? I'm not real big on leftovers and don't want to eat something for 2 weeks! LOL.
  16. Grinning from ear to ear ... kind of figured your tastes had changed. Sounds like a wonderful way to eat to live! Congratulations!
  17. That's wonderful! I hope everything flies through for you!

    Delayed by cancer

Keep on roaring ... meow a minute if you must then roar again. Wish you nothing but the best in your journey.
  19. I can't wait until I feel like I have enough room to not need a seat belt extender in my new car. It fits but any sudden movement locks it ... I want room to spare!!!
  20. Thanks so much Butterfliesbefree! Got a full clearance from my primary care physician. It looks wonderful and is fully cleared up. He looked at the other mosquito bites I got and said they are fine.
  21. I got bit by a mosquito on Sunday (6/8) and by Tuesday, I was running a fever and just not feeling good. The spot on my leg where I got bit was an odd color red and ankle and leg were swelling. I made an appointment to see my pcp on Wednesday. Cellulitis infection - antibiotics and he marked my leg to indicate the boundaries ... if it jumped the boundary, get to the ER immediately. I go for pre-op on Tuesday 6/17 which is the last day of my antibiotic course. Do you think this will change my July 1 surgery date? I go back to the pcp on Wednesday (6/18) to make sure it's gone. So far it hasn't progressed any further, but hasn't receded either. July 1 was the first possible date from mid-late April ... if this doesn't happen does that mean I have to wait 3 more months for another appointment to be scheduled?
  22. Thanks Butterflybefree! I flew through the pre-op stuff on Tuesday and they were okay with the fact that my pcp is seeing me tomorrow. I'll let you know what's going on as soon as I get back tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again! :-)
  23. The info I just got from my surgeon's office is to stop drinking 5 minutes before, 30 minutes after eating. Why 30 minutes before eating? Any info on this? I understand the 30 after though.

    1st July Sleevers

The nutritionist gave me a Protein goal of 62 grams. I had 21 gr. for lunch. Will have a shake later for 25 gr. and then dinner ... oops, if I'm not careful, I'll be over on carbs in a minute. (I ended up with unjury chicken Soup for 100 cal. and 21 carbs.)

    1st July Sleevers

Although at yesterday's pre-op testing, I learned I had only a one day pre-op diet of Clear liquids, I do not feel comfortable with a 58 year old liver (that has got to be fat) so I started my own liquid program today. I have had Water and chicken broth, will have a Protein shake for lunch. I do have a raging headache though. Hubby is going through most of it with me, as a sign of support for me. Not to mention, he could use losing a few pounds. I am not asking him to give up his coffee though. I appreciate that he's being so supportive. Good luck today! Susan
