My name is Melissa, and I'm 49 years old. I'be been married for 21 years to my husband Tim and we have two boys 13 and soon to be 17 years old. I joke and say the only time in my entire life that I was underweight was the day I was born and it's been an uphill battle ever since.
I am finishing nursing school in a month and receiving an associates degree in nursing science and criminal justice as well. I hope to start my bachelor's in the fall and take my NCLEX in July. I feel that this is the right decision for me because I have gained and lost so much weight in my life I could make six or seven regular size people. I'm ready for a permanent change and a tool that will assist me in being successful. I have numerous comorbidities (rheumatory arthritis, hyperlipidemia from the prednisone used to treat the RA, hypothyroidism, and recently diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea). I'm hopeful that the weight loss will greatly improve my health. I want to be around to enjoy my children and family and to make a difference in other people's lives as well.
I am currently scheduled for surgery April 29th and am learning to enjoy my Protein shakes. I lost almost 35 pounds prior to beginning my pre-op diet and am so excited. Looking forward to making some friends along my journey. Keep you posted.

That's great advice bladefox, it does sound like she grazing and we do need to eat slowly but set a limit and 30 minutes sounds like a good target. You can do this! It just takes time and practice.

Erin hang in there, I think you are doing awesome! Puree foods are so much more than what you are eating. My nut recommended a book Chef Dave recipes for Weightloss Surgery success and let me tell you after reading his recipes I can't wait to get to pureed foods. Check it out it was less than 10.00 on Amazon, I downloaded on my kindle. You can do this! It will get better!

I'm having surgery April 29th and have not shared with many people either so I understand your dilemma. You might want to share this site with your husband, maybe with more information he'll be more supportive of your decision. If not, we'll be here for support, encouragement, and to accompany you along the way. Hang in there and stay positive!

Hi my name is Melissa and I'm new to the site. I have RA and hypothyroidism and most recently have been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea. Prednisone has been part of my nightmare as well gained 60+pounds since beginning in 2009. Not the only reason but a contributing factor none the less. I am scheduled for VSG surgery April 29th with Dr. Wasser at Virtua, Mt. Holly. Tomorrow I am beginning my two week liquid pre-op diet, and am so excited to be one step closer to my goal. My doctors have all been very supportive of my decision to have surgery, and my family as well. Only my best buds know I'm having surgery, so I'm still "in the closet." I'm hopeful that this will ease the burden on my already stressed joints and reduce the need for some of my meds (currently 15 daily and 2 weekly). I so happy to see so many others like myself.

I can totally relate, I start my pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. I did Optifast years ago and loved the shakes but was able to make with diet soda. I'm worried about using Water, I know if you put a lid on your cup (think travel mug) what you can't smell usually doesn't taste as bad. Right now, I'm very positive about surgery because not to do it would be more detrimental to my health.
Keep your head up and look to the future!!! You can do this!!!
