  1. I eat 5-6 mini meals per day per my surgeon's recommendation, so each meal is essential a snack. I just make sure that each meal is Protein first, vegetable second, and a carb if I have room. I keep the calories of each meal at 200-250. My surgeon calls this "punctuated grazing".There are times that I will eat something in between, it is usually a piece of reduced fat cheese or some peanuts.

  2. I did not have a goal size, just a goal weight, which I have reached, but more importantly, a goal level of health. I wanted to get off my blood pressure meds (done), see improvements in my sleep apnea and overall sleep quality (done), and reduce my risk of developing diabetes (glucose is normal). Over the last 9 months, I have gone from a size 20 to a size 4-6 at 5'8". I figured that was a small bonus, since I am healthier than I have been for a very long time.

  3. I had a 2 week Optifast diet pre op. I was hungry on it, but muddled through. I was rather calm before surgery and was given Versed before they wheeled me into the OR suite, so I don't remember getting the gas, since the Versed tends to cause you to forget everything that happens after they give you the shot. The last thought I remember was hoping that I would eventually wake up.

  4. I go to a support group run by the hospital where I had my surgery and I am in counseling. I am an emotional eater, but I am in counseling specifically for that. I go to support group to be able to share with and support others who have had WLS. I always seem to learn something new in support group, since the bariatric coordinator who runs it has a new topic for discussion every week.
