1. Hi everyone! I am 1 Month and 5 days post op from VSG! I know when you have a lot to lose, the weight comes off a lot quicker in the beginning. I started my journey at BMI of 35 and I now BMI of 31(total of 13.2lbs). I weigh myself every morning and the scale doesn't seem to be moving. I would lose 0.4lbs and the next morning, I would gain 0.6lbs then lose 1.2lbs, then gain 1.4lbs....it is getting so frustrating. should I just stop weighing myself? how do you keep track? I HATE the scale and it is really ticking me off! I also can't help but to weigh myself every morning. LOL...it's like an addiction. How do you keep yourself motivated through this process. I just started a month ago so I need some advice!

I feel great, everyday I feel less and less pain. My incisions never hurt since day one and my stomach hasn’t been bloated. I can drink like a 4oz cup of chicken bone broth drained. Plain Water is the hardest for me because I’m not thirsty and I get a little stuck feeling when it lands on my pouch. It only lasts a second but I really dislike the feeling. So far I haven’t felt hunger or fullness. I just try to sip my Protein Shakes and I was able to drink a whole Premier Protein bottle today by drinking 1oz every 20 min. Tomorrow I’ll aim for another Protein Drink, more Water and a cup of broth. how much are you drinking?

    Hi All!

I had my procedure on the 21st as well! I am tolerating all my liquids well and pain is under control for the most part. I have one incision that is still very sore. I am guessing this is the incision where they pulled out the stomach. This incision has a small bruise but swollen. I have 5 all together and this is the only one that is problematic. Is this normal?

Oh we sound similar, I'm 5"2, starting 215 also have RA. Was RA one of your commodities ? I am currently one month from my final nutrition visit. Hoping to get an approval and date next month.

I believe they did you RA as one of my co-morbidities. I also have diabetes type 2 and sleep apnea and NAFLD. I was approved in a day once the doc's office submitted all the paper work! Good luck! I can't wait to be healthy again!

  4. Hey Sleevers!

I am currently on Day 6 of 14 day pre op diet. I have lost 7lbs so far from my pre op appt weight. By the time the surgery date comes, I will be far below my BMI of 35. So the question is what was the rate of weight loss with VSG for those with BMI under 35? What are some of your experience with it? I have about 60-65 lbs to lose all together. I would love to hear what your journey was like similar to my situation. Another question...anyone also have Rheumatoid Arthritis too? I am hoping that VSG will help put this awful disease to remission. Please share your journey with me....

  5. Hey May Sleevers!

I am 4 days into 14 day liquid diet...surgery date 5/21....So exciting, but I have to tell you this liquid diet is brutal! I am doing well so far but it is hard. I think the hardest time of the day is morning into early afternoon. I keep on getting hungry so I have been drinking Water in between my shakes. In the evenings, I have been "treating" myself to sugar free water ice and jellos. Oh Boy! :) I don't know why but I don't feel the hunger as much in the evening so I can tolerate the late afternoon to bed time much better. How are you guys coping? Or how did you cope these 2 weeks?

  6. Hi Everyone!! I finally got my call from the doc office and I am officially scheduled for 5/21 for surgery and 5/2 for my pre op appt. I think my doc requires a 2 week Liquid Protein diet. Is that what everyone is doing? I am excited to get this party started! I can't wait to get my health back on track! Anyone with lower BMI (<37)?

  7. I just found out from my insurance company that I was approved! They told me the date of 5/15...I am guessing that is my surgery date? I haven't heard from the doc office yet! I am on the lower end of the BMI..

    HW: 202

    CW: 199

    GW: 130

    BMI: 35

    Height: 5'3"

I am excited for my journey to start to get my health back on track and start anew!

  8. My surgeon is requiring me to get clearance from pulmonologist, cardiologist, and psych eval. I also have to meet with a nutritionist. I am wondering if insurance (mine is Aetna) will pay for these visits.

  9. Hi my name is Melissa and I'm new to the site. I have RA and hypothyroidism and most recently have been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea. Prednisone has been part of my nightmare as well gained 60+pounds since beginning in 2009. Not the only reason but a contributing factor none the less. I am scheduled for VSG surgery April 29th with Dr. Wasser at Virtua, Mt. Holly. Tomorrow I am beginning my two week liquid pre-op diet, and am so excited to be one step closer to my goal. My doctors have all been very supportive of my decision to have surgery, and my family as well. Only my best buds know I'm having surgery, so I'm still "in the closet." I'm hopeful that this will ease the burden on my already stressed joints and reduce the need for some of my meds (currently 15 daily and 2 weekly). I so happy to see so many others like myself.

Please keep us posted. I have very aggressive form of RA and thinking WLS. I have an appt with a doc in cherry hill tomorrow. Can you tell me what your first appointment was like with surgeon? How long did it take to get a surgery date?

  10. Oh another 'trick' that some people have done here and my surgeons office has told me about others-- they will let you weigh in with whatever you have in your pockets / on you. Some have mentioned a purse with weights. Others have put rocks in their pockets or wore ankle weights.

Lol. That is good to know ;). I will make sure to take lots of Water bottles in my purse that day of my appt!

  11. It's okay!! I'll answer all the questions you need! This is a big step...you should ask questions! It can be a long tedious process; however my insurance didn't cover me getting Lapband so being self pay makes it a lot quicker. I had my consultation with True Results in mid June 2013...and my surgery was July 26, 2013. So for me, the whole process was a month!

Let me know any other questions!! I'd be glad to answer them!

How much did your procedure cost in total?

  12. Hey! I am glad you are following me and my journey!! I am doing alright! I currently have 7.8cc's in my 10cc Allergan band. I have lost 25 pounds in almost 8 months. That may not seem like a lot to many people that have had this procedure done. But I started at 163 and am currently 138. I am consistently losing...but very slowly. I started with a BMI of 32. If I had to do this all over...I definitely would. It has made me be aware of what I choose to eat and giving me a sense of confidence that I had lost. At 27, I am turning into the person I want to be. If you have any additional questions please feel free to message me! I'd love to share my experience.

Thank you,
Toni

What was your experience like right after the surgery? Pain? Was recoup process take long? What was eating like? 25lbs is great. Slow and consistent I think is more important. Congrats!

  13.
Hey everyone!!! How is everybody doing?!?

An update for me...I finally hit 20 pounds (I think I am at 23 pounds now)!! LOL Woohoo!! The 26th of February will be 7 month surgiversary...so although this has been a slower journey than I thought...I still wouldn't change it. I have so much more confidence and happiness than I was when I started this.

I think I am getting really close to my green zone. I have had 5 fills. I am at 7.5cc's in a 10cc band. I go this Wednesday for hopefully a 6th fill. Not sure if the nurse practitioner will give me a fill...since this last month I have lost about 4-5 pounds. Which is what they recommend (and that was with NO exercise). But I started this journey at 163 and hit 139 yesterday! Which was very exciting!

I just thought I would check in and see how everyone was doing!!

Hope to hear from everybody!

Toni

Hi, Toni! I was following your story and sounded very similar to mine. I am thinking of getting a lapband. I have a bmi of 33 hopefully I can get to the healthy zone with the help of the band. How are you doing now? I noticed this tread was a little while ago. How much have you lost in total? Have you maintained?
