  1. So thankfully it was a fluke!! Total for the week (I officially weigh in on Tuesdays) I lost 2.8 for the week, and yesterday's weight was just either wrong or a fluke because I was 6 lbs less this morning and I weighed more than once to make sure (I should have done that yesterday) so I am on track and feeling much better.

  2. This past week I was feeling wonderful, I have had slow weeks (.9 lbs) but I have aways lost and not gained, so this morning I am feeling devastated and defeated and like it just can't be true, my scale says I gained 5.3 pounds this weekend!! Friday was one of my best workout days ever!! How can this be?!?!?! I did have on my pajamas and I usually weigh naked....but my leggings and night shirt can't weigh 5 freaking pounds!! :-(

  3. In my beginning 6 months of classes before surgery I was very private, and right before surgery I began to tell a few more. The response from the few more I told was so supportive and freeing I was shocked, I felt like I could be real about me and what's going on in my life, in a few cases I was told I inspired others. After surgery I decided I don't care and this is a part of me and my life journey. I'm in an office of about 75 and slowly people have asked, and I am very honest. I don't want to lie to people and them think they can have the same results with Protein drinks and a walk at lunch. People are so much more respectful about food in the office and so incredibly supportive. I have privately been told by many that I have inspired them to get back on track and get healthy. I no longer walk alone at lunch I have 2-3 who join me :-)

It inspires me to keep on track and be held accountable. And it helps others to know know what's going on. I thought I would be the same way and keep it on forever, but I am Sooo Happy I didn't!!

  4. I have switched to spaghetti squash for Pasta and I told my household we are not going back. My BF is a marathon runner and he gets plenty of carbs from veggies and things. the Pasta and rice is just not needed, WLS person or not. I do not understand why doctors would recommend going back on carbs, knowing for many of us they are addictive and really our body does not need refined sugar or flour.

  5. I just wanted to hear from others who have lost over 100 pounds. I wanted advice about how to get a better handle on your hair falling out and what exercises you recommend to help minimize loose skin. What age are you while going thru this and what did you do or notice that you feel others should know? I am 31 years old and I want to lose 120 pounds.
What would be your biggest must do to someone who fears all those things but know that the end result is better than the small stuff?

I am 31 and 4 months post op. I have very little skin, and I am at 92 pounds lost so far. I did just a few weeks ago notice more hair coming out but it is not bad. I take TONS of Biotin and started doing it 6 months before surgery so my hair was as healthy as possible. I also make sure I meet my Protein goals every day using 2 shakes a day that have 30 g of Protein in them.

  6. So I had a wonderful 4 day weekend getaway with my boyfriend. We stayed at a bed and Breakfast for two nights and then 1 night in a hotel near the hot springs day spa we went to the next day. I did okay but really beat myself up!! Yes I ate things I shouldn't, not in excess but I did. I had some very small chocolate covered strawberries and did fine. But the. I ate more of them and not so small and made myself sick!! Right when it was time for me to put on my new cute sexy stuff.... I was sooo sick but I played it off pretty well. :-/ I was really hard on myself but then my bf told me to enjoy myself and I can get back at it on Tuesday.

So today I focused on my Protein shakes and not drinking to fast. Then my meals I really focused on eating slow, I got full on one piece of string cheese!! This really made me realize how important it is that I need to focus on how I'm eating. I lost 3 pounds last week and only .9 pounds this week. But I lost and it's not to late to go back to the basics and get to know my pouch again. I think I was just so excited I could eat a good variety of food, I lost control.

  7. For what it's worth, most folks who have RNY eventually have to "power through" the nausea from fatty or too sweet or too dry foods. They eat even smaller portions, and rely on Protein Shakes, etc. One other reason we progress through stages after surgery is so we can go back to one or more of those and know we'll still get some nourishment. Stay with it. Keep doing the program. Stay in touch with your surgeons group and us, and you'll succeed!

Yes and no, we should not be consuming foods that are too sweet or high in fat, so powering through is not a good idea, I know I'm sick of plain foods but I am not trying to power through so my pouch is like it used to be before surgery, we must learn to live without sugar and high fats. We don't want to and defeat the surgery and force our bodies back to where we started.

  8. Another one is Calcium. I take 2 Citracal petites per day. Bone loss is a serious issue as well for RNY patients. This is specially serious as we age. Even if you drink milk and eat yogurt it's not enough.

The good news, because of our weight loss our overall health will improve. I think taking vitamins/ supplements and monitoring our blood is a very small price to pay for the benefits. Hello, at the rate we were going Type 2 diabetes would involve monitoring our blood 24/7. Also, lets not forget the countless surgeries for knees and hip replacements and the decreased quality of life due to high blood pressure and the countless co-morbs that come with morbid/obesity. The use of the electric wheelchair at Walmart/Target was in our future and that's if we were lucky enough to get around.

Also be aware of our new way of absorbing, we better absorb calcium citrate than calcium carbonate.

  9. Well I tested my pounch really well this weekend. Last night I ate 1/2 hamburger bun and all. And a handfull of fries. No problems. Today I ate a few Cookies and cupcake for my grandson's birthday, no problem! Now mind you I do not intent to eat like this except for rarely. Not sure that I like the fact I have no restriction and don't seem to dump!

I refuse to try sugar!! I don't want to know if I don't dump!!

  10. So I just left the hematologist. I had my 3 month bloods a couple weeks ago and it came back that my Iron is low, of course cuz it always is. He didn't want to start on the intravenous iron yet, he wants me to try 1 pill a day and see how I can tolerate that. We also discussed B12 shots in the future, he says that taking b12 orally is pointless because our stomachs don't have the binders that it needs to hang onto and transport the b12....and I didn't realize how sick you can get if you are seriously b12 deficient! Kind of scary!

So does anyone else feel like they can eat more than we should be able to?? I'm getting nervous cuz I'm not getting full when I should be :( I can easily eat a half cup and still be hungry!

I sometimes can eat a whole cup :-/

  11. @PinkPolkadot619--Could be the Soup goes through quick enough that it's not filling up your pouch?

My Dr'.s don't want me eating soup. :( I think that's why, because it goes through too quickly and you don't get "full" like you would with solid food.

Now that I think about it, I have not had soup much until today.....okay I fee a little better. I am still able to eat about 4oz of ground chicken and I am not sure if that is normal or "a large portion"

I also just realized why I am so "snacky" in the afternoon......it's because I walk after lunch 1.5-2 miles. Should I fight the hunger or feed my self half a Protein bar or something?? Hmmm

  12. So I did the same thing yesterday and put my meal plan in myfitness Pal so I could see my plan know what my Protein and calorie intake will be for the day, and only slipped up 160 additional calories more than what I had planned (half Protein Bar and a SF pudding) but still better than grazing all darn day

    Todays plan is:

Breakfast: Hot Peppermint Mocha Premier Protein shake (169 Cal)

Lunch: 1 cup chicken tortilla Soup (130 cal)

Snack: Hot Peppermint Mocha Premier Protein Shake (169 cal)

dinner 1 Cup chicken Tortilla Soup (130 cal)

If I don't add any thing I will be at 598 Calories and 82g of Protein.............but I don't know if I can pull that off :-)

I can eat a who cup of soup and have no problems.........I feel like I should not be able to do that yet?? Is it bad??

I actually get to go to the hospital's support group meeting tonight! It's been a couple months in a row that I haven't been able to go. Tonight's topic: Self Image! How perfect!! I'll report in later tonight or in the morning if I learn how to love myself, LOL!! :P

OMG, I Just realized I have not peed once since I've been to work today!? I've even drank 40oz of Water, but I do need to go now, so off I go!! ;)

I love going to mine!! It is a huge help, then I also set up the support groups Facebook page. That plus you wonderful people are the glue that is holding me together!! (and my bf that holds me all the time when I have emotions I can't put words to)

  14. today I input my planned meals in to myfitness pal this morning, so I know I have to follow it to make goal.......but of course I am feeling snacky!!! I am not actually hungry I know I am just wanting something.....grrr this is such a pain! a month ago I had no interest in food, now I could tell you every Protein Bar I have in my drawer at work and how many calories each would be. the one I want is 100 cals for half.... sigh the struggle is still very real

  15. @@PinkPolkadot619

just looked at your before and after photo. Well done, you look amazing. A different person. I bet some people don't recognize you.

Thank you!! Some of my friends (the close ones) don't recognize my before pictures because they never saw the weight) many people don't know who I am until I talk LOL but I talk a lot so 0:-)

  16. I love my Protein Shakes. I make "mocca frappes" :) coffee, chocolate Protein Powder and ice and blend. I've lost 68lbs in almost 3months, my hair is so very long and thick, unlike presurgery, and my skin is amazingly clear, again, unlike pre-surgery. There's no way I could get my Protein in without it. None. I can't eat more than a few tablespoons at a time or I'll puke. shakes are the only thing besides Soup that don't make me ill.

I was warned that blending things would put to much air in the drink and cause gas pain. Have you had any issues???
