  1. I've never heard of it. My mom had her gallbladder out too and I don't think they ever offered her a med to help it. I think it would end up being a med you'd have to take forever :(

On the plus side, the surgery for it is pretty easy for most. Outpatient and a few days home with some good pain killers. They may be able to use some of the same scars as your sleeve.

  2. Gall bladder is our problem for women, anyone over certain age, and especially people who diet and lose weight. I had mine out while I was pregnant. Some doctors actually will take out the gallbladder the same time that they 30do the sleeve because most of the time if someone doesn't have it out already they're going to need it out soon after.

It isn't a side effect of surgery, it's a side effect of losing weight

  3. I got a barium swallow x ray the day after surgery and if your doc does a tight sleeve your esophagus is larger than the opening to the stomach, so as you swallow it has to funnel in. It was a HUGE help to see that visual.

If you haven't gotten to see your own stomach in action, I'd ask for a barium xray and be able to watch yourself swallow so you can see how it works. Really really helpful.

  4. Good morning everyone! I just got done weighing and I'm thrilled. My weight kept fluctuating on the scale up and down over a pound while I was standing on it like it was possessed. I finally realized my hair bun must be leaning on the wall or something, so I scooted it out from the wall a foot and not only did it stop the fluctuating nonsense it showed 3 pounds lighter!!! I stepped on it 3 more times to make sure. Lol

  5. I got one. Saved me a lot at one of the Vegas buffets by letting me pay the child size. another one didn't accept it. I'm not sure I'd often order from the kids menu, but I'd love to know what places will let you order half plates if anyone knows. I'm not a big leftovers fan either. Though I'm not sure how often I'll be going out any time soon. :)

  6. We have no chicfila or el pollo loco. The other night it was already after 9 when I was headed home from work. My kiddo was hungry. Mcd's is one of the only places I can stop so I drove through and got her a 4 nugget meal and me 4 nuggets. I ate 3 of her fries and ate 2 nuggets (took an hour). 4 pieces are 190 calories.... Which means I easily ate less than 200 calories for my "dinner".

It isn't the tiny amount (less than 200 calories) that we eat now that put on the 100+ pounds we are trying to get rid of... its the Big mac, fries and large drink (1000+ calories) that put the weight on.

My lifestyle doesn't allow me to cook all the time, and as prepared as I am, if I am not in the mood for what I "brought" with me to work, I just won't eat... which isn't good either. I think its obviously important not to go overboard. But I think if you take into account your calories for the day, its not going to have the effect that your pre-sleeve stomach could eat.

  7. I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th! I nibbled on fruit, had a bite of my kids hot dog and even a small slice of a birthday cake. Down a pound this morning! I was reading through a few posts and was reminded that it wasn't the small bites or nibbles that made us large. It was the whole hot dog or burger, with chips, fruit and the cake plus brownies and soda that made us large.

There are lots that are doing an amazing job at doing low carb, and maybe I'm the only one in this group that isn't quite so strict in that area. I did this VSG because I've done low carb and other diets ALL my life and I was SO OVER dieting. I'm not tracking calories, but I know from a rough estimate I get sometimes as low as 400 and sometimes up to 1000 (like yesterday when I had that small bit of cake). Looking at a lot of people's progress pics in that thread, most seem to lose between 60-70 in the first 6 months if they started around my weight. Anyway I feel a bit out on an island because so many of you are so strict with your low carb and working out (I'm not there yet, but at some point I know the bug will hit me again and I'll be back at it). I'm 4 pounds away from the 30lb mark. I feel really happy about that. I'm considering trying low carb during the week and relaxing the strict bits on the weekends and seeing how that goes.

Hope you all have an enjoyable weekend. I am so thrilled to be home and have a few days off!!

  8. We are beginning week 6! We count surgery week as week 1 so everyone should be completing their 5th week of their brand new tummy!

I've been traveling a lot the last few weeks and it is a HUGE eye opener to how little I can eat now. I survived a buffet by having a few bites of some different things, and paid for far too much money for meals that I couldn't take home leftovers and it looks like I didn't eat a thing off the plate. I think one of the hard things for me is that a plate of food comes and it looks so good and I want to devour it! I get slightly depressed I'll only get to enjoy a few bites. Yet after about 1/4 cup I'm stuffed and full and push the plate away and don't want another bite, which is AWESOME!! I'm assuming the odd depression right when the plate comes out will pass. At least when I'm at home I can box the left overs right away and then it might not seem so bad. I never thought much about the money being saved on food, but holy cow its gotta be a ton.

So I'm curious... how many are sticking to super low carb, vs those who are just watching calories/letting restriction do its job.

How many are working out a ton and how many are waiting?

Whats your favorite meal at this point?

And I'd like to continue habsi's question; what pills/multivitamins is everyone taking daily?

devint I loved your idea for putting up averages etc!! I've added mine and included those who weighed in last week. Hopefully we can get everyone to weigh in Monday or Tuesday next week and see our numbers skyrocket!

  9. I work hard to get Water in and get as close to 64oz as possible, and thats with me nursing it all day.

My problem is with Protein. I'm starting to have a problem getting shakes down right now. I don't like yogurt or cottage cheese. I typically end up with some of the round kind of beef jerkey at work between clients (I'm chewing while I work, I really don't have breaks). If I ope n a Protein shake I can maybe get 1/3rd of it down in an hour but thats all I can do.

Anyone have some other good ideas for 4 weeks out Protein? This weekend I'm traveling and honestly trying to up my calories for a little shock to my system for when I get home and I'm back down taking in protein only pretty much. I've happily discovered nothing is really made me sick. Had a little tbsp rice with dinner at a mexican resturant and 1/4th a chicken enchalida.

Chili is good protein and I found a company that has 19 grams for half a can! So I'm going to try to start getting that in at some point during the day if I don't do tuna. I just don't always have time for that stuff. Nuts, jerkey and Protein Bars are my go to meals when I work crazy busy hours with one client after another..

    Any other ideas??
