  1. Atkins induction isn't about fat, it's about carbs and getting your body into ketosis and glycogen out of your liver. I had bacon and an omlet for Breakfast one day and I was good all day because of the fat. No fruit, nothing with sugar, under 20 carbs total a day. The guy that had 2 weeks was bigger, higher BMI. I'm feeling so so. This morning was rough. The iv came out yesterday, and with it, the drip meds. Woke this morning in pretty bad pain, the wonderful nurse was quick to give me some morphine and it was night and day. I still have the drain in. My doc does 3 leak tests and today is a blue dye test. After that, the drain comes out and most say I'll feel much much better. I leave tomorrow, so I hope so!
  2. My doc had me on low carb Atkins induction style for a week. One guy had 2 weeks. He said that is strictly to shrink the liver. It's easy. My favorite meal is always chicken wings (without a sugary sauce, they are 1-2 carbs per dozen).

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Danila I'm sorry you are suffering. I can't imagine having to do liquids only with a normal stomach! With this soak being cut and healing I believe liquids well let it heal properly. Before the surgery is just a diet. Right now is like physical therapy after a major injury, but for your new stomach. The first couple weeks can be miserable, but I haven't seen anyone a year out anyone who regrets surgery, even with massive complications. This morning I woke up in extreme pain. I was sleeved on Friday. I was so glad the nurse was a button away. She brought morphine and put it in my port. After 5 minutes I got up and walked around a bit. So thankful in so in the hospital. Drain comes out today after the last leak test. Should feel loads bet after that. Hang in the Danila. This is the last diet! You won't every have to think about coming up with a new one to try or it backfiring. A few miserable days will be worth a lifetime of being done with the roller coaster of weight loss.
  4. tarbaby it looks like you were at the end of day 2, which I think is the hardest. I'm currently the end of day 2 and will be where you were i a few hours. Right now the heavy pain meds are off, burps are picking up and its painful. But from what everyone has said tomorrow when I get the drain out after the 3rd leak test the pain subsides so so much. What is everyone taking for pain meds when they get home?? I start work back on day 6

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

I got gummies!! My docs are totally fine with it, even through my clear liquid phase. I got 1 a day gummies from costco, plus C and biotin ones at bartells. Honestly they are like a treat!
  7. One of the girls who had surgery yesterday had a hitial hernia. She was told Clear Liquids only for 15 days. then 10 days of regular liquid, then on to puree for 10 days. You might want to back away from the non clear Protein drinks and use isopure or unjury that are clear and should help with the mucus.

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

I don't even get to graduate to all liquids for like 10 days. So the only protein I can do is unjury or isopure. I can imgine if I was doing regular whey protein shakes I would feel nausea. Pain isnt too bad especially when sitting still. Eyes have cleared up! I no longer feel like I'm trying to read drunk kung fu, how are you doing over there a few cities away?

Swedishfish glad you are doing well! Walking around the block is great! I haven't tried cold liquid. I figure since the doc only gives us warm tea and room temp liquid that its not a good idea at this point. But I have been able to get 8 ounces down in the past hour or so, so I think thats good! Things make a funny noise when they go down. But its not painful so I'm happy about that. Great to hear how everyoe is doing! In a week we will all be moving and grooving and talking who likes what protein shakes from where!

@@Nicci829 looks like we are on the same schedule! I can't imagine doing anything but liquid for awhile anyway. Poor cut up stomach needs some rest. I'm in the hospital today and tomorrow. While on my computer I have a 3 minute loop on a timer (you can use your phone too) Its a good way to remember to keep sipping. http://www.online-stopwatch.com/loop-countdown/

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

I am so happy to see that the vision thing isn't just me! It's been hard to read posts but I keep doing it because I'm bored. Lol Luckily for me I've had 0 nausea and very little gas. I maybe have a couple of hiccups and a cough and that's it. Maybe all of that is related to the fact that I haven't been able to drink anything since 10 p.m. The night before surgery. Perhaps he figured out after a couple thousand surgeries that if people don't drink, they don't have nausea. So I am thankful for the rule even though I am dying of thirst. I really can't wait for glass of water! Today is the barium test and then I get another leak test (blue dye) tomorrow before I go home on Monday. My doctor likes to do 3 the test to make sure everyone is perfect.

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Single mama I am right there with you on fluids. I have to do it for 20 days! But I believe if I do a strawberry smoothie or something that counts as fluid so that's exciting. Ohhhhh or an orange Julius?? Lol. Kidding. If your protein drinks seem very heavy dilute them. One person I was following on YouTube would take a pitcher, add Isopure, extra water and crystal light make it taste better and drink that throughout the day. that pitcher was 40 grams of protein so it was one way to get in an extra 40 grams if you're doing everything else. I have been in a room with a fan now since after my surgery yesterday. But I'm not allowed to have water until its been 24 hours since my surgery, I think that's about noon. I have gone for a couple bottles of water just putting it in my mouth and splashing around thinking out let me tell you never been so thirsty in my life. I feel like someone walked into the desert in the Bible. Without the fan its just too hot, but it causes serious dry mouth! Everyone check in with what day you are at what you are allowed to eat/drink. I'm going to add it to my spreadsheet. I'm curious to see if trends occur in people who started on puree right away vs liquid etc. Our own little focus group :-) Going to go try and walk. But I think they need to add more morphine into drip

    diet pepsi lovers?

OK my nutritionist Dr said that after about a year and a half and you've done a losing all that you want to lose you can have a few sips, like 1oz. Not a whole glass not a lot but a sip. Which will suffice. I just want to taste that crisp lovely taste now and then. Lol All sleeved now!
  14. I didn't know they even did open any more
  15. Oh you are doing single incisions! Yes that makes sense. I looked into that and watched a surgery using that on YouTube, I wanted specifically dr aceves and he prefers the 4 incisions method for BMI over small number.
  16. It is interesting how each doctor has their own pre op diet and things they think they will be able to do to help people shrink that liver Exedra my doctor only required one week low carb Atkins style diet prior to surgery. After our pre op testing the day before surgery he allowed us to go and eat and drink whatever we wanted for our last supper. He said one evening of meal is not going to change the size of the liver whatsoever. One lady in our group that had their sleeve done yesterday did not have to have a pre op diet, I think she has a much lower BMI so they don't expect her to leverage be quite as big.
  17. Hi everyone! I'm doing good. Just tired. Need to gret off and sleep. Just wanted to say surger went great! No massive gas a lot of people get. Just a few hiccups. Lll

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Just got iv in. Waiting to go. It's really happening. Woohoo Our doc has us on iv only the first 24 hours before starting Clear liquids so I don't get to do yogurt or puree for quite awhile. It will be interesting in the long run if this makes a difference in years to come in if people's sleeves stretch more than others based on how they heal.

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Up and getting ready. Nerves are setting in. Sleeping pill worked OK, still woke a dozen times. And dang it I'm thirsty. Lol. I hope the next 6 hours go fast!
  22. My mom is super against surgeries in general. So I'm in Mexico by myself. I don't mind. This is for me. I chose Mexico for a lot of reasons. Quality of doctor and care is above par than what is by my house. No hoops to jump. More hospital care. The sleeve is an art if done right. I didn't want to need a revision in years to come. I wanted a record of above excellent results. Tomorrow I am being sleeved and today the surgeon spent an hour with me and the other two getting sleeved discussing what was going to happen, how the new stomach works, signs your stomach is saying it's full and how to make sure you use your tool right long term. I've never had a US doc spend an hour with me answering questions, not rushing through, etc. Amazed so far! My 3 nights in the hospital start tomorrow. It comes down to what you want. You can't make people sorry you when they a are scared. The unknown is scary for people. This isn't a surgery that's required, it's elective and some people have a hard time accepting that. Be brave, change your life, your the only one that can!

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Great to see ask you 29s back and feeling ok for the most part. I think all the docs try to suck up the gas, otherwise we would all look like balloons! Would be funny to see. Lol I'm having my last supper. Surgeon says the preop diet is to help shrink the liver but one night won't affect it. So we get to eat as much of whatever we want. Pretty cool final day. That being said, he is very regimented on post op. Some of you go straight to puree?? We are on clears for 5 or 10 days after! Then any liquid for another 10 days. Then puree. I guess he wants to be sure the stomach is healed before food goes in it. Interesting that all our docs are so different! Went in today for pre op (Soooo much better than 6 months if nonsense with insurance)! There is another couple getting sleeved tomorrow too so I went through preop tests with them. Our surgeon Dr Aceves came in and talked with us for a good hour about every detail and how it works a after and what to expect. I've never had that before! I can't tell you the hair color of past surgeons. Lol This surgery is a an art so I'm excited to have a passionate surgeon. Feel in very good hands. Alright 30s, we are up!! Sleep well tonight and good luck tomorrow.

    May 28 - 31st sleevers?

Cnilson that's great news! I have to be back to work 5 days post op do I've been hoping everyone comes out saying is a piece of cake. :-) Landed in San Diego, waiting for the other couple that are coming and the driver. It's a 2hr drive down to the hospital in mexicali. I've read a ton of reviews from nurses about how is the cleanest hospital they have been to, so I'm looking forward to checking out out. Looks like a lot of you are going home the same day or next day. I think that's big one reason I chose this surgeon. He likes to keep people 3 nights in the hospital. I'm a single mom.... I really need someone else taking care of me those first few days and my 6 year old isn't quite going to cut it :-) Hope all you 29ers are in surgery or prepped to go!

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Looks like a bunch of our poor 28s are having a rough day! I hope tonight everyone is able to get some better pain meds (ask for liquid dilottid of they will give it to you!!) And walk when you can to help the gas. I'm up late, yes its 1:23am. I decided that since I have to be up around 4 to get ready to go to the airport I'd just clean and stay up. I'll sleep on the plane and maybe in the drive from San Diego to MX. I can always sleep by the pool too Just don't want to risk an alarm not waking me up and missing this flight, its too important! Heading up in a minute to sort my clothes (its a mess) by size, take measurements and before pics! I'm excited to get going tomorrow. We have 6 more going into surgery today! I hope you all have a great surgery and everyone comes through without too much pain. Good luck 29ers!!
