  1. Toofat I did self funded also and went to Dr. Aceves. He's been the president of the Mexico Bariatric society, has performed about 2000 sleeves and is the guy that travels to the US to teach docs here. He does a LOT of revisions on bad sleeves also - it's an art and if not done well the sleeve can expand. I flew into San Diego and their driver picked me up with another couple also having surgery. The pre op lab work and tests were that day and last supper (anything you want including 2 drinks) was that night. The next day was surgery then I spent 3 days in the hospital. They do 3 leak tests and you even get to take home the pictures of your new stomach. The drive you back to the airport and you had home 4 days after you get there. The whole thing was $8750, (flight cost was the only extra). If you are considering self pay anyway, you might want to look into getting the best sleeve and care you can. With open you are going to be a much longer recover y time (a month instead of a week).
  2. Hi Jess. I do nails! So while I'm sitting the whole time it isn't super restful. I was able to get my first few days down to about 5 hours, which helps. Energy level is fine, just sore. Hope leaving over the table isn't awful, or twisting when I file. If I can get past that it won't be totally aweful.

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Habsi I can't imagine being near all that good, if would be tough! Luckily all I've had to do is smell it. I stayed with a friend last night and the smell of Mexican came up the stairs. Man that was mean. Lol The protein drink I had wasnt the milk kind, it's mixed with water, so it's still gentle on the tummy. I keep seeing so many having upset stomach, I'm gonna obey my surgeons 10 day rule. In 6 weeks we will all get to sample and taste what we wish! Yeah!

    diet pepsi lovers?

Post 5 days. No problem craving so far. And I straight up asked the doc. He said at least 2 years out, a few sips here and there are fine.

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Ohhh deviant rolling over= ouuuchhhhhhh! I'm totally a side sleeper so I understand. I have a friend with a tempurpedic and I'm sleeping in that so I'm at an angle and can't turn, I think I'd do recliner sleeping for awhile too. Woke up to hit the bathroom - pain meds had wore out, ouch! Took one (I'm on sublingual torodol). Getting some water in. Then back to sleep! So far I haven't minded clears. I don't want to eat. I have 5 more days of it. I picked up some soups that I'll eat the broth of for dinner. And I'm experimenting with different flavors of syntrax nectar shakes so I haven't been bored. I had jello last night which was yumm. I think I'm gonna make 3 flavors and have some variety with that over the next 5 days too. And I've been concentrating on water. I'm gettting 2.5liters a day (including flavored) and id like to get to 3 liters. From all my past dieting experience, I know I lose more with less of water to flash the fat away. Glad to see in not the only breathy ball slacker :-) Back to sleep for me!

3 Days Post Op And Hungry

Eating stylus this early can freaky injure your new tummy. It could stretch, pop staples. You could get septic and that could be deadly. My doc is a leader in the field has done about 2k sleeves and has clear liquids for 10 days, then all liquids 10 days, then puree 10 days, then soft food for 2 weeks. That's 6 weeks before solid food. Don't risk it. We also have to take ppi for at least 3 months. Get those and drink water. More clear protein if you can, that should help. And head hunger is sometimes a problem. As for water, I'm 5 days post op and I 2 able to get a few liters down yesterday, but the protein shake t(12oz) ook a good hour

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Are you guys all doing the breathing inhaler thing with the 3 balls? It helps work your lungs and diaphragm back into place. I'm supposed to do it hourly 10 days... not getting it done that much but I am doing it when I think about it. If you've had the hiatial hernia repaired you might want to stay on clear fluids longer... my doc has the people with that do 15 days of clears, then 10 days of all liquids. Maybe it would help to have things heal a bit longer. If your sharp pain continues, I'd go in and get looked at. You don't want something that will end up being very bad. OK folks we are moving to a new thread tomorrow! I'll update the list with who has checked in and who hasn't, hopefully they will let us know how they are doing!

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Maybe try to use my reasoning? I have a bad tenancy to not eat most of the day every day, except dinner. So dinner is always a problem because my body stores up any extra - especially in the weekend if I actually do eat 3 meals . This will require me to have much more consistent portion sizes and not keep my body in a constant state of gain lose gain lose.
  10. Maybe try to mix up your shakes. Matrix makes some that are so decadent its like a milkshake. The premier ones from Costco are 30 grams and as long as they are super cold, it's like chocolate milk. I even had those all the time before sleeve.
  11. I'm sure there are shady places and not so great doctors. But there are also some of the best doctors in the field!
  12. They don't charge extra to be there. There is a leather chair in the room and a leather couch that they make up for the extra person as well. I'll be happy to answer whatever you need. I'm back in San Diego at the airport ready to get on my flight back to Seattle. :-)

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

That's awful that she was so insensitive! Sometimes there are reasons for surgery and people really should take into account the number of times you have tried to make it work. I'm sure all of us have spent years trying every traditional and fad diet out there! I've lost and gained the same 70lbs so many times, and that's still 50 over goal! I've never been closer to goal. I have a secret group on Facebook of good friends who are constantly trying every diet or complain about their losses. They have been following my trip. My brother wasnt going to be in that but I messaged him while I was in Mexico and realized it would show my location so I quickly told him so he wouldn't tell my mom. Honestly it would be great to see him do it in the future (my other brother too). There aren't many guys that live past their 50s his size. Anyway your neighbor will be green with envy when you are sporting a cute summer dress or little shorts next summer! :-)

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Oh my Kung, your have not had a good couple of days! I had thrush once and it hurt to even breathe! I'm sorry that sounds horrible. I how you have lots of gas z strips and that they start to help soon. I hope you feel better quickly! I'm currently back over the border on my way to the San Diego airport. The van rocking is a little uncomfortable but nothing more than if I had a stomach ache from eating something bad. I have not had dreams about solid food. I could not even imagine eating yet. We just stopped at a convenience store and I grabbed some water, I've been squirting in power ade zero for flavor and electrolytes. I'm going to attempt a protein drink with water today. I'll be on water based protein drinks until next Monday. Then I can start adding chocolate shakes and other flavors for 10 days before purees. I look forward to making smoothies with fresh strawberries done up in the nutrabullet! And some cream soups. But solid food?? No no no, my poor new tummy. Lol. I certainly don't want stitches blown or putting stuff in too early that could cause problems. Ouchhh Alright 2 hours until San Diego. Hope everyone is starting to feel better! I'm gonna go through the list and see who we haven't heard from.
  15. I wanted to point one thing out, as I leave in the am. I'm actually a bit glad I came by myself! I think when someone is with you, you feel like you need to keep them entertained, not bored and happy. Without someone here, I don't have to worry about anyone but ME. Its been nice, if I want to shower, nap, sleep, not talk - I don't have to do any of that, no one pushing me to walk more or get more fluids down other than nurses. I actually don't think I would have liked it any other way. Look into Dr Aceves. He is a bit more, but you are in the hospital 3 days so there is 24 hour care. He does a very good sleeve (he does a LOT of revisions on BAD sleeves, so don't risk going to a cheaper surgeon, get the best the first time.)

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

So glad you are feeling better laurie! You sure sounded aweful before Great NSV on the little bbq! Makes me wonder if smashed up watermeelon is ok for the pureed stage?? I still have 18 days until then, but I bet the watermelon would be lovely. The docs typically soak the new stomach in Water inside the abdomen and check for bubbles that would be leaks. The next day they should at least do a barium swallow so you can see your new stomach. My doc did it for confirmation of leaks but he also wanted us to see how the new stomach worked. I'll attach a picture. The reason you should get a copy now is so that in 6 months you can get another barium test to see how your sleeve has healed and if they missed parts that are now stretching (which obviously can lead to regain). I didn't think the barium was aweful - mine was more like a strawberry and cream Protein drink. Just one big gulp. However my doc also had us do a blue dye test. which is a much thinner liquid (water) than the barium test. This allows even the smallest leaks not to go un noticed as any leak in the stomach would come out in the drain that is placed by the new sleeve. THAT stuff was disgusting. And probably TMI, but I'm still peeing blue! LOL Here is my pretty new sleeve

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Don't stress so much about BM. Over the next month you will take in so little food, 2-3 days will be a normal BM time - in fact since we will forever take in about 1/3 to 1/4 the food we took in before, expect your BM to be that spread out also. Anyone else fascinated with your barium xray?? I wonder if our sleeves look totally different or similar. Anyone up for show and tell?? (maybe I'm a little bored in the hospital room Leave tomorrow a.m.

    May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

I can't imagine anything but clear liquids right now. Everything else would just feel too heavy im sure. Getting used to small sips but getting to keep the quantity up by taking them often. I'm a 30th sleever and won't start on full liquids (including milk based protein drinks) until next Monday. I might be sick of just cleats by then, but for now I'm thankful to just let my new tummy heal.
  24. Not much influence. Lol. Not getting loopy or anything. Either way, low carb puts you in ketosis which does is job. Keep the Protein up over 65 at least.
