  1. I took 2 weeks off work, but probably could have gone back at a week. My job is pretty active though so I just wanted to play it safe. Sounds like you should be fine. As far as sex, I was so not in the mood for the first couple weeks. I think maybe it was week 3. The nurses said I could have sex as soon as I was ready.

    Clothes - what to do?

My support group has a clothing exchange, and actually this site does too which is pretty cool. I'm down almost 40 pounds so I'm starting to need more clothes. I go to old navy, they have good sales and clearance section. Also try thrift stores.

    Protein Drinks

I really like ensure high protein.

    I got my date!

Congratulations! If you haven't already I would buy a bunch of samples of protein powder. There is a good variety at www.nashuanutrition.com. I wouldn't get a huge tub because your tastes will probably change. Also for the first week I loved crystal light, hello, broth and other soups, bottled water-I am picky and hate our tap water- popsicles, and pudding. And I definitely agree with the poster that said to walk- it really does help!
  5. Congratulations! My surgery was the 20 and I am doing very well too! My pre op diet also started the 13- Valentine's day kind of sucked this year LOL. I'm down almost 40 pounds since then.

    Preop Diet concerns?

My surgeon wanted me to do a week of clear liquids. A coworker had the same surgery from a different doctor in the same practice and she only had to do a high protein low carb diet. Different doctors have different requirements, doesn't mean they are better or worse.
  7. Hi my name is Molly and I had my sleeve done Feb 20 at kansas city bariatric. Anyone from the area?
  8. The booklet I got from my NUT says grapefruit is allowed, but may be hard to tolerate I'm guessing this may be because of the acid? Anyway, I don't think it would hurt if you tried. You never know!
  9. I'm a para so I have a pretty active job. My surgery was 2/20 and I took two weeks off. I still had a 15 lb lifting restriction for the first month.
  10. Hi guys! I am a month out from surgery as of last Thursday, and I feel great! I have lost about 19 pounds since surgery on the 20th. I am currently in the soft food stage for two more weeks. So far I haven't had any problems with food. I wasn't tolerating milk for the first two weeks, but I have gotten over that. My incisions finally stopped hurting after about 3 weeks, and now I only get an occasional spasm. I don't tolerate plain Water very well, but I love water with crystal light and haven't had any problems with fluids. Here is a collage that I made today. On the left is the morning of surgery at 280 pounds, and the right is today at 259 pounds!

    Week three

Oh and by the way, this is why so many people rely on shakes for so long. It is so hard to get in everything you need when you feel full so fast. As long as you are getting your water and protein in, I would say that you are doing great!

    Week three

That's pretty normal. I am 4 weeks post op and couldn't finish a whole egg when I started eating them. You are going to start feeling some restriction now that you are moving to solid foods. Just take it easy and listen to your body. Now is the time to learn what your body's cues are to tell you that you have had enough.

    Pre-Op Diet Hell!

My pre op diet lasted a week. The first two days I got bad headaches because I was giving up diet coke- probably would have been wise to quit sooner, but I drank it up until day 1 of my pre op diet. Day 2 was also Valentines day which sucked, and of course there was a party at work. I'll be honest, I had a few small Cookies. The temptation was just too much. But anyways, by day 3 I felt much better, no more caffeine headaches since then! Hang in there- I think this part is the hardest part. It will get easier!

    5days post op

I had lots of noise going on in my stomach for the first several days. It is pretty normal. It might be gas... walking will help get that out. Also, taking a PPI will help with the acid, which can cause you to feel hunger. Good luck!
  17. mollz007

    Hungry?

Well, it could be head hunger. Also, acid in your stomach can mimic hunger. Are you taking a good PPI? Those can help with the hunger. Also, are you getting enough protein? Increasing that could help with the hunger. Good luck!

    New and Questions...

Hi and welcome! When you get your insurance, call the number on the card and ask about bariatric surgery. They will tell you things like what types of surgery are covered, what tests they require if any, etc. Every insurance compant is different in what they require before they approve you. They may have a list of doctors they want you to choose from, or you might be able to choose your own.

Day of surgery and day after

    Congrats! You are going great!
  20. This is really random, and it may not apply to you, but one of my incisions was right below where my bra sits, so putting on my bra was painful. If you have one that closes in the front, that would help, I wish I did. Just something I wish I knew. I would use this pre op time to start to cut back on carbs and focus on getting lots of Protein. It woulld help to get used to drinking Protein shakes because you will be drinking them for awhile after surgery. You can buy samples at www.nashuanutrition.com. If you are a big soda drinker like I was, I would try to cut back on that. You will need to avoid drinking soda for awhile at least. There are different theories about this but most people say it's because the carbonation causes painful bloating and gas. That's about all I can think of now. I'll try to think of more. Good luck!

    Tommorrow is the day!

Good luck! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
  22. I prefer the protein powder to the rtd ones, but my favorite rtd is ensure high protein. Muscle milk was ok to me before surgery but I can't tolerate it now. As far as powders, I like syntrax nectar chocolate and double stuffed cookie.

    Questions About Cravings

Good for you for not giving in! I was on a liquid diet for a week and it sucked. It gets easier as time goes on. I had a huge craving for Chinese food, lol. We actually went to a Chinese restaurant when I was on the liquid diet and I just had egg drop soup, but it was hard! I don't know why I did that to myself LOL. Trust me, it will be worth it though! In my opinion, this is the hardest part! Good luck!

    Restaurant eating:

Sounds like you made good choices to me! Thanks for sharing! I think that there is a misconception that you can never eat out again after wls. I am a month out and have gone out several times.
