Clear liquid diet (3 days pre-op)

This stage is hard..I did it for a week! I lived on sugar free popsicles, sf jello, and grape propel. You can do this, it will be worth it!

    2 weeks out

What stage are you on? At 2 weeks I was on pureed and I just bought any soup that looked good. If it had chunks I just put it in the blender.

    Decaf Coffee

I was told I could have decaf after two weeks. Regular coffee is allowed when I am 2 months out.

    Kansas city area?

I agree Dr. Hoehn was great! Surgery was a breeze and my stay was great! All the nurses were very sweet! Plus my bed was so comfy LOL.

    depressed for no reason

I am right there with you! I am almost 3 weeks post op and I feel weepy at random times. Our hormones are going crazy right now with the rapid weight loss. When I am feeling down I like to look at clothes online and think about my spring wardrobe and all the cute clothes I will fit into! Hang in there!

    Still in pain

I was sleeved on 2/20 and have had an easy recovery. The only pain I had was from my incisions. For the first couple days standing up, especially from lying down, was painful. It got better after the staples came out. The incision they took my stomach out of is still sore through. I'm sorry you're in so much pain! I hope you feel better soon!

    Post-op hospital stay

I stayed exactly 12 hours lol. Checked in at 8 Thursday morning and discharged 8 Friday morning. Hospital stay was nice, kind of like a vacation. Woke up every few hours at night so the nurse could check vitals. Wasn't cleared to drink until Friday morning so I just had ice chips before that. My room was too quiet so I fell asleep listening to the radio on my kindle.besides that I just watched tv.

    Does anyone regret it?

I'm sorry to hear you are having a tough recovery! If you tell us some of the specific problems you are having, maybe we can help. And I agree with the suggestion to call your doctor if things don't get better! I am almost 3 weeks out and I can't say I have had any moments of regret except that I didn't do it sooner!
  10. Welcome Laurie! I realize this thread is about a month old, but I'm new here too, lol. Welcome! I was sleeved 2/20! Hope you are doing well!
  11. I was told no caffeine until 2 months post op. However, my NUT told me decaf was okay after week 2.
  12. I totally agree. Lots of people think that they can't go out to eat after WLS, which is totally untrue, and I'm glad you posted this. It's not too hard to find something to eat on almost any stage, soup is always a safe choice.
  13. Wonderful food choices! I am a little further out than you... I was sleeved on 2/20, and hubby and I have been out a few times to eat. We like to go out for brunch, so I will get a kid's egg and mash it up really well with my fork. We got mexican today, and I got a cheese quesidilla and only ate 1/4 of it- took the rest home. I have a card from my surgeon that will allow me to order from the kids menu if I want. I don't know how much I'll use it because I don't like to call attention to myself.

    Feeling doubtful?

And also, I love going out to eat also. It's hard to do during the liquid and puree stages (but its possible, almost everywhere has some kind of soup.) It gets easier when you can have solid protein, there are more options. One place my hubby and I like to go is first watch for brunch. I will get eggs (either the kids portion, or the regular and give some to my hubby) and mash them up with my fork, sometimes with a few potatoes. Yum! Tomorrow, we are planning to have mexican for unch and I am thinking about gettin a cheese quesidilla! Anyway, my point is that you can still go out to eat after surgery!

    Feeling doubtful?

Those feelings are normal, I think almost every one who has this surgery has those thoughts at some point, I know I did. For about a week before, I thought, well since I have been so successful on this pre op diet, maybe if I try a little harder I can lose the weight "on my own." You just need to remember that people that have WLS have the greatest chance of losing the weight and KEEPING it off. I am 2 weeks post op and have lost almost 30 pounds and I am really happy with my decision! Good luck!

    Trial run of preop diet?

I didn't do it, but it can't hurt. It will definitely make things easier. I don't know what your pre op diet is like, mine was 4 protein shakes a day plus clear liquids. It was tough! If you haven't already, I would find a protein drink that you like. For RTD shakes, I like Ensure Protein Plus and Musclemilk. For powders, I love syntrax nectar, I have the chocolate and the cookies kind, I also have the lemonade, but I don't like that as much. Also, I was a huge diet coke drinker before my pre op diet and kept drinking it until the day before my diet started, and because of that I had a major caffeine headache the 1st day! If you are a big soda or coffee drinker (although I was told I could have decaf) I would try to cut back just to spare yourself the awful headaches! Good luck!

    Just starting

I work with high school kids that have autism, and it is not an easy job. My heart goes out to parents of children with autism, or any disability, I can't even imagine how difficult it must be. But they can be such a joy to be around, I love the students I work with! Anyway, congrats to you for looking into this option, I know it is not an easy decision to make. I had my VSG done two weeks ago and I am lucky enough that I had no complications or issues with getting food or Water in. I am very happy with my decision! Good luck to you!
  19. Hmm... well in general I think that you feel more restriction as you get further out, once the nerves that were severed start healing, so it may be that, or perhaps your tummy just does not agree with the protein shake you are drinking. Have you tried different kinds?
  20. My surgery was 2/20 and I am returning to work next Monday. My doctor didn't really specify how much time I should take off, but two weeks seems like the average time.

    Straws

I have heard this, but it wasn't included in my post op instructions. The reason I think is because you are supposed to be sipping more air when you use a straw. I don't buy it and I use one anyway, I am two weeks post op and haven't had a problem. Sometimes drinking from a straw helps me get down those protein shakes I don't want to drink!
  22. Hang in there! The first few days are rough but it gets better each day! I am two weeks post op now and I am doing really well. I am so happy that I had the surgery! The first week is definitely the hardest.

    One week post surgery

Congrats on the weight loss so far! I am 2 weeks post up and I am going back to work Monday. I was like you, planning on having surgery on a Tuesday and ready to go back to work next Monday. I think that we don't realize right away how major this surgery is, at least I didn't. Anyway, I feel good now and I think I'm ready to go back. Get some rest and wishing you a speedy recovery!
