Soups phase 2 of liquid diet

I loved the French onion soup from panera during that phase... I did just like you said and only ate the broth. Yum!

Definitely! I love avocado mixed with egg!

    Foods You Eat (Post-Op)

There really isn't much that I can't eat- that I've discovered anyway. I never really had many problems with food except for some lactose intolerance in the first few weeks after surgery.
  5. Almost 8 weeks out 40 lbs down since surgery, 55 total BMI went from 49 to 39 (I would not qualify for WLS if I went in today!)

    Do any of you...

I felt that way after I lost 15 pounds on my pre op diet. It is pretty common. For me, I figured surgery was my best shot at losing the weight and keeping it off.
  7. This is the hardest part of the whole process I think. I did a week of clear liquids plus 4 shakes a day and it got much easier as time went on. Day 2 fell on valentines day and I did have a couple cookies lol. It didn't affect my surgery though... my doctor said my liver looked great.

    Hungry

It is so hard in the beginning! I got hungry a lot too! If you have acid in your stomach it can make it seem like your stomach is growling. A good PPI wil help with that. Some people never experience hunger again after this surgery, some do, guess which one I am? lol. Are you getting enough protein and water? It is hard in the liquid stage because dense protein is really what is going to fill you up. Just hang in there!
  9. Some of my goals were/are. -Weigh under 250 lbs- done! -Move from exxtremely obese to obese- done! -Wear my wedding dress again -Wear a size 18 pants- done! -Not have to shop in plus size -Run/walk a 5K -Weigh under 200 lbs -Have a 'normal' BMI
  10. I wasn't given any restrictions, my nurse justy said when I feel ready. I just laughed inside when she said that because I was so tired and sore that sex was the last thing on my mind lol. I think we had sex around 2 weeks post op.
  11. Good for you! I went back after two weeks and it went very well... I am a para and have a pretty active job. I was tired after the first few days but did well other than that. I wasn't really planning on telling many people at work, but word got out pretty quickly- gossip spreads like wildfire at my job! It is completely up to you if you wanna tell or not, I totally get not wanting to.
  12. Welcome to the losers bench! I had a pretty easy recovery with not too much pain except from the incisions. I was also lucky enough to not have trouble with food or water really. The only thing I couldn't tolerate was milk so I just made my shakes with water, but that only lasted a few weeks. I went back to work after 2 weeks and did fine, I was very tired the first few days though.
  13. It is tempting for me also to chug water, especially when I am very hot. Some people hAve an easier time sipping than others. You may be able to take big sips and you may not, but you most likely will not be able to chug a whole glass, tempting as it may be. I try not to chug because if I drink too much at a time I feel uncomfortable, but sometimes I forget lol.

    Cheated

My pre op diet was a week long and consisted of 4 shakes a day plus clear liquids such as water, crystal light, SF jello and popsicles, and broth. My coworker had the same surgery by his partner at the same practice, and he required no pre op diet except for low carb/high protein. We are both doing well and have had no complications. So it depends on the doctor. In my opinion, this is the hardest part. My pre op diet fell on valentines day, and I cheated and hafd some cookies because there was a party at work! That was on day 2 of my pre op diet, so after that I picked myself back up and stuck to my diet the rest of the time, and after my surgery my doc said my liver looked great. Plus the extra weight I lost really helped! The point is that sh*t happens, don't let it get you down. Just start over tomorrow and follow your diet the rest of the time. I'm not a professional, but I don't think one screw up will affect your surgery. Good luck, you can do it!

    Newbie...

Welcome! I am a little over 2 months out, dont know if you would call that experienced though lol. But anyway I would be glad to hep if I can. Your post looks great. It can be very confusing here at first but you will get the hang of it.
  16. Sounds like you are doing great with the protein. Are you on a PPI? Sometimes acid in the stomach can mimic hunger. If you are still hungry, maybe try adding another high protein snack such as a cheese stick? Are you keeping track of your protein? Sounds like you are well within the correct range though.

    Episodic pain....gas?

Hmm... was the seasoning really spicy? Some people don't tolerate spicy food. Or maybe it was just the beef you didn't like. I like to try to go for ground turkey instead, that's just a personal preference. My NUT said the leaner the better, which makes sense. Plus, I don't know about you, but here beef is EXPENSIVE! Damn!

    Going back to work

I should add that I was on the pureed stage by the time I returned. It would have been close to impossible to do it when on clears because I had so little energy.

    Going back to work

I am a para so my job involves a lot of walking. I returned to work after 2 weeks and I did fine. I was very tired at the end of the day. The second day back was much easier.
  20. Early on, you are most likely experiencing gas/acid in your tummy that mimics hunger. It feels just like your stomach is growling. Did your doctor prescribe an antacid/PPI? That could help. It's possible to feel hunger that early but I think it's rare. I didn't really feel hunger until maybe a month out. Even now (2 months out) I sometimes have to remind myself to eat. In my past life I would have loved to have that problem lol! Anyway, hang in there, I know it is tough. I wish I had better advice but that phase honestly sucks, theres no sugar coating it. I loved sugar free Jello and popsicles. The sweet stuff helped me. Good luck!

    Episodic pain....gas?

What did you eat? I have learned what gas feels like for me because I recognize it from when I was a huge diet coke drinker, lol. It happened after I drank something carbonated, so now I know what it is. Whan I get something stuck it just feels like a lump in my throat, but that goes away fast. I haven't really gotten any stomach pains besides gas so I'm not too much help. I hope you find the answer though!

    Just not hungry

Some people never really start to feel hungry and just have to keep eating on a schedule. I am like that too most days. As long as you are meeting your nutritional goals and getting your water, I wouldn't be too worried.

    Tired of pureed!

Hang in there! This stage is really boring. I was so excited for pureed foods when I was on my clear liquid diet, and by the end of pureeds I was so sick of that and ready for solid foods! Lol. You will be at solids before you know it.
  24. mollz007

    Something is wrong

I don't think that anything is wrong. It will take you awhile to actually feel full, at least until you are able to eat more solid foods. There are a couple reasons- 1) soup, and any liquid, is digested faster and will not leave you as satisfied, which is why when you can eat solids you should try to get your protein that way. Also, your stomach is going to be healing for awhile, the nerves are cut, and your tummy won't be able to detect "full" until they heal, so that is why it is important to measure your food, esp. in the early weeks. Hope this makes sense! I am not an expert by any means but I have seen this problem before.

    Dont feel prepared

It would be a good idea to use this time to find a protein drink you like. There are RTD shakes and the powders. I prefer the powders because I like to make the shakes with milk. Finding one or two brands you like would be helpful. I would order a bunch of samples, you can get some from www.nashuanutrition.com. Many people's tastes change after surgery, so I wouldn't buy anything in bulk. Also, get in the habit of eating protein centered meals, and if you drink soda try to give it up, many plans discourage the use of carbonated drinks because it will make you feel gassy and uncomfortable- I have been there lol. Also get in the habit of drinking lots of water!
