  1. @@Jack, "PostOp I developed a case of "1st bite syndrome" for nearly 2 years, which I don't see discussed much any more. It may be due to improved Bands, or called something else now". What's that? .
  2. Glad it worked out for you. I'm always afraid of being too tight. Good advice !
  3. I can't believe it took me this long to put two and two together. I'm so glad it's improved with reduced BP!
  4. Don't be discouraged. And congratulations on your success so far!
  5. Embarrassed to say that no, I never told my doctor. Until my friend said this to me a few days ago, I didn't realize how noticeable it was. I guess I was rationalizing it all along. I'm 53 years old, and I didn't think I was old enough to have hearing loss. I do know, however, that now, it seems that I am not asking people to repeat themselves as much. I didn't notice this change until my friend brought it to my attention. You better believe, however, that now I am going to pay very close attention to my hearing. And thank you!
  6. "A total of 274 patients between the ages of 45 – 64 were studied, with the researchers finding a direct correlation between the presence of hypertension – also known as high blood pressure – and impaired hearing. On a positive note, the researcher’s found that by bringing a patient’s blood pressure under control an additional loss of hearing could be prevented." Whoa !!! Holy cow. I just discovered my latest NSV. Thanks for the link!!!!!
  7. No, just a couple of years of irritating other people by asking them to repeat themselves. Suddenly no longer happening.
  8. @@gowalking, happy birthday to a beautiful and inspirational lady !!!
  9. A few days ago, I visited with some friends who have not seen me in months. We met in a crowded restaurant that was pretty noisy and had some live entertainment. The next day, my best friend, who was also there, said that she noticed something recently about me. I had not asked anybody the entire evening to repeat themselves, nor said, "What?! I can't hear you" to something somebody said. I realized that she was right. I have been increasingly unable to hear quiet talkers up until very recently. So, what's changed? As I've lost a lot of weight pretty quickly, my blood pressure has come way down. I've gone from two blood pressure medicines down to one, and the one blood pressure medicine is keeping my blood pressure within very normal ranges for the first time in decades. Prior to this weight loss, even the two blood pressure medicines were not successful in controlling my blood pressure. It was really high for a long time. So, I was wondering, can high blood pressure cause hearing difficulties? Logically, it makes sense to me that pressure in the ears could create a difficult time hearing. Has anybody here experienced better hearing after losing a lot of weight and watching their BP come down to normal? Thanks in advance.
  10. Fair enough. I am a noob myself. The more I learn, the more I learn I need to learn. Bottom line is I won't ignore these symptoms, since complications scare me more than regaining does.
  11. Six weeks after banding I went to solid foods. No problems.
  12. My surgeon told me flat out that this band was permanent. He did initially ask why I ruled out the sleeve. I told him my reasons and he accepted that. He still does many bands and his is a Bariatric Center of Excellence. By reading these boards I've learned that too tight leads to many problems. And PBs, stuck episodes, reflux, etc. are signs of being too tight. So I'm very aware of this and cautious. I want my band to last and I am scared of erosion and slippage. I also know that with proper monitoring I can make sure I'm not developing problems. Right now that's easy to see with good satiety and steady weight loss. When I get to goal and maintaining, it will be more of a challenge but still my responsibility to listen to my body and have the doc check my band annually. I'm still in the honeymoon phase but I know this is a lifelong commitment.
  13. That said, I really didn't have a soft foods phase. I had six weeks of full liquids (example would be cream soups), then regular food. Some soft foods I think might be chili, scrambled eggs, hummus, ricotta or cottage or cream cheese, puréed anything (I used my blender a lot and added more protein and veggies to soups that way). Protein will satisfy you hours longer than starches. So try to make protein your main ingredient and build around it. Don't be afraid to eat nontraditional foods. I've had hamburger for breakfast and eggs for dinner many times. Who cares? If it's healthy and it works for you, then do it.
  14. Every person has their own instructions, but my nut advised against potatoes and other starches because they want me to focus on proteins first, then veggies, then carbs last, if at all. I'm five months out and that still guides me. Good luck!!
  15. @@wadeg7, this is so inspiring. Congratulations !!!
  16. I took Aqua Zumba this winter and loved it. Unfortunately the summer session is weekdays while I'm at work.
  17. I rode my daughter's bike yesterday! The knee pain was less than it was a few months ago. I can do this! I'm so excited. I'll be borrowing her bike this fall when she goes back to college soon. Woo hoo! As an added pick-me-up yesterday, MyFitnessPal said if every day was like today, in five weeks I would weigh 198 pounds. Onederland is coming! Have I mentioned that I love my band?
  18. @@shantra, good for you! You will do this! Stay connected here. It really helps for motivation. Good luck.
  19. Yep. What they said. I was happy to go back to my desk job the Monday after my Thursday outpatient surgery, but everything else I did, like stairs, lifting, bending, etc was tiring. I waited four weeks for my Aqua Zumba class and still felt sore and tired afterward. Our bodies have been traumatized whether we admit it or not. Take it easy. But do walk. That will help your healing.
