  1. My nut says hot sauce is fine- any non fibrous seasoning is fine :-) I use regular sodium broth... I cant stand the low sodium.

Hi April thanks for this info. There has to be a way to make this broth more appetizing. I don't know if it's the brand (I brought Herb Ox brand fat free sodium free broth in the green box) but this is so disgusting and nasty tasting. I'm going to try it with some hot sauce added also I made some veggie broth today that I'm going to try tomorrow and let everyone know how it tastes. Have a good evening and I'll chat with you tomorrow!!!

  2. Hi Seattleslew,

Thanks for the support. I am only on day one of my pre-surgery diet and I can honestly say that I can't stomach this broth. I just finished making my own veggie broth by boiling some veggies and draining the liquid off of them and freezing the cooked veggies for later. I'm going to try it tomorrow and if I like it I'll substitute it for the chicken broth. I'll post a message letting you know tomorrow. Have a great evening it's nice meeting you and sharing my journey with you in this forum!!!

  3. Hi Val, I'm on my phone so I can't see your entire post as I respond to you but I can only have the Protein Shakes 3x's per day and the Clear Liquids to supplement it. I'm having the gastric bypass surgery and my surgeon requires me to follow this diet for two weeks to prep my liver for surgery. I appreciate your feedback I guess the pre-op diets chosen by your surgeon depends on your other health issues too. I have hypertension and high cholesterol and I'm prediabetic to boot. I'll be fine though because if I can't tolerate the broth I'll just skip it entirely.

  4. :D CONGRATULATIONS!!!

YOU HAVE TAKEN THE FIRST STEP TO A HAPPIER, HEALTHIER YOU!!! I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST AS YOU GO IN FOR YOUR SURGERY TOMORROW AND I'M PRAYING THAT THE SURGEONS PERFORMING YOUR PROCEEDURE WILL HAVE GIFTED HANDS THAT WILL GUIDE THEM THROUGH EVERY STEP WITH LOVE AND COMPASSION. AS YOU RECOVER FROM YOUR SURGERY I PRAY THAT YOU WIL BE BLESSED WITH THE STRENGTH TO EMBARK ON THE NEXT PHASE OF YOUR JOURNEY WHICH IS RECOVERY. MAY YOU BE ENCOURAGED AND BLESSED ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT THE PAIN WILL NOT ENDURE FOREVER AND THE HAPPINESS THAT IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER WILL MAKE IT ALL WORTHWHILE. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS AND FOREVER IS MY PRAYER, AMEN. I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU AND I WILL FOLLOW YOU ALONG THE WAY. :) :) :)

  5. Hello All,

I just started my pre-op fasting diet today which consists of protien shakes 3x's per day, s/f low sodium broth, sugar free Jello, popsicles and Water and the broth is just horrible!!! I guess I can just have everything else and exclude the borth since it's not the only liquid I can have but if I must have it it's gonna be a real challenge. Does anyone know if I can add a dash of hot sauce to it to make it taste better? I asked my nutritionist via email earlier today and she has not responded to me yet. How's everyone else doing with their pre-op diet? It's only day one for me, 13 more to go before my surgery on the 2st. I excited and determined to stick to this diet because I realize the benefits of me doing so plus it will prepare me for my new way of eating after the surgery. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to make the broth easier to digest pleas elet me know. By the way I'm using Herb Ox fat-free, low sodium broth that comes in the green box. Please Help!!!

  6. Thanks Wayne for this very detailed discussion of your surgery from pre to post op. I'm relieved to see that while there will be discomfort after surgery it's all that is expected after major surgery. I wish you much success on your journey. My date is the 21st and I feel much better now. I began my pre-op fast today the broth is yucky but I'll supplement it with the other liquids I'm allowed to have. God bless you for sharing this with me.

  7. Wow Kim, you are so strong it's amazing!!! I wish you all the best with your WLS and I pray that your hubby will continue to support and be there for you throughout your journey to health and happiness. Don't be too upset with him as you know men don't speak our language and they usually behave as if they don't care because they don't want us to know how scared they really are. God bless you!!!

  8. Hi Cherie!!! Kudos to you as you embark on your journey to a happier, healthier you. I feel your excitement as I read your post and I know that feeling all too well as I near my surgery date. 9. You must step out on your faith and be determined to change your old bad habits into new ones. For me the fear of dying is so great that I've already changed and have lost 20 lbs since February. I am determined to regain my health and happiness that I may live a long healthy life. I don't know if you are a person of faith who believes in a higher power or not but if you are this is an excellent time to reach out to your fellow parishioners for extra support and encouragement. Faith move mountains, trust me I'm a witness to its sustaining power. God bless you, you can do this!!!

  13. Hi Amyllf2 and danagadd, thanks for responding to me. Amy are you having the gastirc bypass surgery or the banding done? I'm asking this because I'm having the rouenx bypass surgery and in order to prep my system I have to eat only clear liquids for two weeks prior to my surgery date.

Danagadd, that's awesome, reading your post gives me hope. I think its great that you are not hungry that is one of my biggest concerns. It seems that I am always hungry even after I have eaten a normal sized portion of food. I know that I am addicted to sweets and fats and I have joined overeatersanomynous.com to get support with my overeating. I look forward to engaging in conversation with both of you as i go on this journey to get fit and healthy. godd bless both of you!!!

  14. :D Hello, I'm new to this forum and I am also new to gastric bypass surgery. My surgery date is April 21st and while I am not scared I am curious to know what to expect immediately after surgery. I know that I will be sipping from a medication dose cup and that I will have to do a clear liquid diet for two weeks prior to my surgery date, I am interested to know how that went for people who have already had their surgery and if there are any suggestions as to what I can be diong to prepare myself for this. I have already started losing weight by eating more fruits and veggies and walking everyday and I feel good that I have gone down from 310 lbs to 292 in the last three weeks. I gained all of this weight after I had triple bypass surgery over the last 14 years. I want to be haelthy again but it is very hard now that I am addicted to sugary, fatty foods. Please help me by sharing some suggestions you may have. I am concerned about not being able to stay motivated to live a healthy lifestyle. Thanks in advance for your responses.
