April 2014 RNY/Bypass Post Op Support

Yes it's true that none of or journeys will be the same because we all hae such uniquely different body chemistries. I'm just getting back from having my drain tube removed and I've lost 13 lbs since I was weighed on Monday prior to surgery. I thank God that I have no pain at all I only feel soreness on the sites where the scopes were insertered. I'm not hungry, and I have very minimal energy. As soon as I got home I just about fell into my massage chair and sat there for two hours before I got enough energy to move again. I nasked my dr. about this and he said it's because I'm not getting enough protein in but he also said not to worry about it too much now just focus on staying hydrated and when I begin phase two of my diet I can add more protein in that way an my energy levels should increase rapidly. I pray for total relief from your gout and a road to recovery and healing that becomes smoother as the days go by, Goc bless.

April 2014 RNY/Bypass Post Op Support

Hello, I'm four days post op and things are moving along just fine. I don't have any major pain I'm up and moving around my home all day effortlessly and u basically feel good. The problem in experiencing however, it I can't seem to drunk all of the fluids required by my dr and nutritionist. Sipping is very boring and time consuming if you have other things in your life that need to be done. I came home with the drain that nothing has come out of since I've been home so I get it removed today. I'm gonna ask my dr to bump me up to full liquids is I can start getting my Protein in that way and drink slowly instead if sipping. I pray all April gastric bypass surgeries went as well as can be expected and that everyone is recovering nicely with minimal complications. My prayers are with all who are scheduled this month and beyond God bless!!

I had my surgery Monday came home Tuesday. So far I'm pain free except for a little soreness at the I incision sites. I'm so glad I did this. I'm tolerating the liquids but not the jello. I'll wait a couple of days before I try then again. So far so good. I'm walking up and down my stairs and later this evening hubby and I are going to walk around the block to see how I feel afterwards. If I feel good then I'll start walking again, if not I'll stick to my Wiifit workout for a couple if weeks.

    April 21st surgery

So sorry to hear you're in such pain. Are you pushing your pump and if that's not working are you letting the nurse know? Please don't suffer in silence they have meds that will help you with pain management. I'm praying for you to feel better.

    April 21st surgery

My doctor just came in to see me and I'm going home tonight. I feel good, I'm able to sip 60 ml of liquids, and I've been walking around the floor all day. I'm going home with the drain but I don't have any staples my surgery was done laparoscopically. I feel great except for the usual soreness at the sites the scope was inserted. I pray that everyone else is doing well and that even if there are complications they won't dissuade you from your purpose. Oh yeah, I'm passing gas like crazy the walking really helped me to get things moving.

Have a great day, God bless.

    April 21st surgery

Today is the day!!! I'm up and ready to begin my new journey to post op. Thanks to everyone for sharing your ups and downs for your experiences have prepared me and have given me an idea of what to expect so I'd be even more prepared should I have similar experiences. I pray that everyone having surgery this week and in the future will be blessed with a smooth procedure, experienced surgeons, nurses, and OR staff, and that healing will begin without too much drama, we expect some but my prayer is that it will not be so much that it makes us doubt this decision. God bless each and every one of us,Amen.

    April 21st surgery

My prayers are with you too. It's completely normal to be scared I'm scared too. But my fears are lessened by the fact that we are going to benefit greatly from this surgery in the long run. Better health, more energy, and a shopping spree for new clothes from the regular sized department!!! WooHoo!!! I'm praying for you that your fears will ease up a little and that everything will work out for all of us. Have a great day, God bless!!!

Give your opinion to tell or not

Hi, I too have an addiction to sugary, fatty foods. When I made the decision to hav emy surgery I decided not to tell anyone but my hubby and my neighbor who had the surgery in October 2013. My reason for this is based on the reaction i see among freinds and family members who have had the surgery and the opinion that the surgery is the easy way out. We both know that's not true so to avoid this negativity so I can concentrate on me I'm not telling anyone else. My way of getting the additional support that my neighbor and hubby may not be able to provide is this site and I joined over eaters anynomous. I'm getting support with my decision to have the surgery from my best friend, my hubby and my neighbor, plus I'm getting the emotional and psychological support I need to help me understand my addiction to foods that are bad for me and how to overcome come it. I hope this helps you somewhat for me it has made my network of support much wider.

Thank you so much. I'll share this information with her she's probably never heard of this as she has several that are really large and ugly looking. She was going to try to have them removed surgically but decided not to after learning that there's a 90% chance that they'll get even larger after surgery.

Congrats to you!!! You are correct, "We are much stronger than we originally believed we were" enjoy your vacation, and way to go on passing your boards!!!
  15. Good day everyone, I'm on day 11 of my pre-op diet and so far I have been following it to a tee making sure to eat only clear liquids and my three protein shakes per day. So yesterday I was busier than ever with my finals and other appointments I had that needed my immediate attention this week as my surgery is set for Monday the 21st. Tuesday night I took out some chicken legs to let them defrost so I could bake them for my family to have for dinner and use the broth from the chicken to make some fat-free chicken broth for myself. after running around all day and finally finishing my two papers for my finals that are due today I realized that is was 5:30 and my hubby gets home from work between 6 and 7:30 so I needed to put together his dinner quickly. i decided that if I baked his chicken it wouldn't be ready when he got home so I decided to fy it. This is not the first time i have fried chicken since I started my pre op diet last weekend I hosted my nieces prom and had all sorts of goodies that I didn't touch even though I was tempted. Last night however was different. I actually ate one piece of fried chicken and boy wa sit delicious!!!! I know this is not what i was supposed to do and by no means am I saying it was ok. But I refuse to beat myself up or feel guilty about it. instead I celebrate the fact that i only ate one piece of chicken and it has been 11 days since i've had anything other than what is recommended on my pre op diet. I'm grateful that my surgery is scheduled for Monday morning and I'm the first surgery scheduled on that day and i am also grateful to have this forum where I can get support and inspiration from all of you guys. Have a blessed day everyone.
  16. All I can say James is I want to be like you!!! I admire your success and your ability to focus on the importance of changing your lifestyle around in an effort to adapt to a lifestyle of wellness. I will be following your steps as I move from pre to post op. I appreciate your willingness to share all of your journey with us, God bless.

    African American RNY Sisters

Hello, I've been on this site since march and today is the first time seeing this thread. I'm having my surgery on Monday the 21st and I'm glad that someone started this page because I'm really worried about the possibility of developing keloids at the surgery sites. I don't have any myself but I have a friend who's had the surgery and upon healing she now has several large keloids on her stomach where the cuts were made to insert the scope. Has anyone heard of this occurring in African American patients after surgery before?

"NERVOUS, EXCITED, & VERY ANXIOUS" OMG, 2 MORE DAYS AND I BEGIN MY TRANSFORMATION FROM UNHEALTHY AND DISGUSTED WITH MYSELF TO HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!!! WITH ALL OF THESE FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS SWIRLING AROUND WITHIN ME I CAN'T WAIT FOR MONDAY MORNING TO FINALLY GET HERE. I WILL BE THE FIRST SURGERY OF THE DAY SO I HAVE TO BE AT THE HOSPITAL BY 6:00 AM. I RECEIVED MY ORDERS AT PRE-ADMISSION TESTING TO AND I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE ANYTHING TO EAT OR DRINK AFTER 12 PM SUNDAY NIGHT AND TO SHOWER THE MORNING OF THE SURGERY. NO JEWELRY, LOTION (UGH, I HAVE EXTREMELY DRY SKIN AFTER A SHOWER, NOT GONNA BE A PRETTY SIGHT), OR DEODERANT. AM I READY? YES!!! WITH ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, THE SUPPORT FROM EVERYONE ON THIS SITE, THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM MY DOCTOR, NUTRITIONIST, AND MY OR NURSE I FEEL THAT I AM READY. I REALIZE THAT THERE WILL BE SOME ROUGH DAYS AHEAD BUT I'M FOCUSED ON THE BIG PICTURE, REGAINING MY HEALTH AND MAINTAINING IT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, FOR ME WITH MY ADDICTION TO SWEETS AND FATTY FOODS THAT'S GOING TO BE THE REAL CHALLENGE. I WILL KEEP EVERYONE POSTED ON MY JOURNEY AFTER SURGERY AND FOR EVERYONE PRE AND POST OP I PRAY THAT YOUR HEALING WILL BE AS EASY AS CAN BE EXPECTED AND THAT THE ROUGH TIMES THAT WE ALL KNOW ARE TO COME WILL NOT BE TOO ROUGH THAT YOU CANNOT FOCUS ON OUR PURPOSE TO LOSE THE WEIGHT AND ADJUST OUR LIVES TO EATING AND EXERCISE THE ESSENTIALS FOR MAINTIANING WEIGTH LOSS AND BEING HAPPY.

    A Healthier Me

Hi Debra, congrats on making the decision to change your life and most important of all, improve your health for you and your children. My condolences to you as you mourn the loss of your parents. I pray that the support and encouragement you find on this site will provide you with the strength to move on to your journey to health and happiness and provide you with encouragement that helps you to be successful as you grow stronger in accepting the loss of your parents. God bless you on your journey and welcome!!!
  22. Lol, I'm cthu because I ate that fried chicken leg before I knew what I was doing and boy did it taste good!!! When I realized what I'd just done I had a second of guilt trying to come in but I quickly realized how long it had been since I ate anything but broth, Jello, and other clear liquid and I patted myself on the back and forgot about feeling guilty. I'm grateful that it will all be over on Monday.
  23. Hi James, I realize that this is the calm before the storm but I am prepared for this journey. My relationship with food did not just begin it has been a lifelong affair. It took me five years to get up the courage to have surgery because I kept telling myself that I could do it on my own. Everyone thinks that wls is an easy out but it is not. It is actually not for the weak minded because it takes everything you have within you to be successful after surgery. This is why I am a member of OA because I realize that my addiction to sweets and fatty foods is at the root of my obesity. I've done my homework and I have the support from family, church, community, and friends because at the end of the day we cannot make it in life on our own we need a good support system to keep us focused and encouraged when times get rough. Have you already had your surgery? If you have which surgery did you have?
  24. Thank you so much!! all the best to you too!!! I just want and need this change in my life so desperately that I am highly motivated to do well. I have so many dreams, plans, and educational goals that I desire to achieve and I realize that being obese was hindering me from truly seeing them all come into fruition. God bless you and others for the support here. Have a great day!!!
  25. Hi James, yes I have lost 32 lbs thus far and I'm pleased about this fact. But the important message I'm hoping to send out is that we can't beat ourselves up for being human. This pre op diet is very hard and stressful and if I didn't have the support of my hubby and you guys I know I would be very frutrated and probably would not have done as well as I have. I'm relearning how to eat and live an active lifestyle and it's not easy but I'm determined to do it. Thank you so mch for your support and encouragement I really appreciate it!!!
