  1. I hope I can try it out again later on cause I miss the small street tacos....
  2. I am also going through the same things...I am 6 weeks out today and I have been eating small things here and there through out the day. But I make sure everything I eat, I incorporate Protein in that meal. Example, this morning, I had a slice of thin chicken deli meat with some dijion mustard, then later, I had a bite of my mom's home cooked cabbage, then later in the day, I had a tablespoon of Peanut Butter and then now I am snacking on 1/2 apple with another tablespoon of peanut butter. And I have had 32oz of Water so far for the day. And for dinner, am making small turkey burgers with no sides. I have not been tracking my protein religiously like I should but am waiting to get a fitbit this week and plug in with the fitnesspal so I also know how much I am walking. Oh and I also vacuumed my whole apartment today to burn off calories... So is grazing common? I dont know...cause I am going through it and I cant eat 3 dense meals...
  3. Wish I could have street tacos...tried one last week and couldn't even get one bite down. I am still new with all this so I am going to try it later on. Perhaps 4-6 months down the road. We have this awesome taco place here the taco truck and their tacos are amazing. Use to have them regularly pre-surgery. Am going to try hard shell tacos moving forward cause the soft tortilla doesn't do well for me right now...

    So tired of feeling sick

What are your symptoms? Are you on puréed diet? Are you in pain?
  8. it seems like we are on the same diet. I have not had any pasta, had a few bites of bread but my body doesn't seem to like it. So I have been mainly eating Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, flaky fish, ground chicken, some nuts, eggs, hummus on some crackers and some soft veggies. And I also did have a slice of pizza which took me a long time to eat. I am liking the soft stages of food for now.

    Dating after Weight Loss Surgery

I was in a 3.5 yr relationship which ended last year before I started to see my surgeon and unfortunately my ex could not get over me being over weight. He was some what ok with it but knew his family would have an issue with it. He knew I was going through WLS at some point but didn't want to wait cause to him it was all about pleasing his family. Unfortunately Indian culture is all about how the person looks and what the family thinks. We broke up and he got married 2 months later (arrange marriage with a $100k dowry)...and he lives 2 blocks from me. I have not ran I to and don't plan on it but it hurt a lot. Now that I am on the right track to lose the weight, I don't care for him much but care for myself more than anything in this world. I do want to start dating again but I think I will be ready 6 months down the road. Also I am starting a new job as a director which will take up a lot of my time and I will be working out which is my priority over anyone or anything. Once I am ready I will join some local organizations and websites to meet people.
  10. In the early on stages I would carry my protein shake and water with me every where I go. I even do now that and I am 5.5 week post op. If I had to get something outside I would still get the shakes or I would get a soup. I am not there yet to have anything solid...just soft foods and mushy things. Also when I work in the weekends, I take my yogurt, protein shakes with me. Oh you can also get cottage cheese too. Good luck!
  11. It depends on your situation l. I have heard of DS and it's recommended for a BMI that's hight. Also gastric bypass is also recommended for your BMI. I am not too sure how DS works but heard the results are phenomenal. Also gastric bypass will give you the results you want. Have you spoken with your surgeon? What kind of health issues do you have? You should speak to your surgeon and see what he recommends. It's case by case...my surgeon said to me the lapband will take time to see the results and he said sleeve is good or gastric bypass. It was upto me and I decided to get the most out of my insurance so I got the gastric bypass. Ultimately you have to decide what works best for you!
  12. Luckily my insurance requires that I be seen and monitored by my surgeon for 4 months and then I can get my surgery. But I attended a seminar for my surgery 2 years before my surgery to understand what kinds of options are available. I did all that before hand and once I landed a job with a good insurance I started the process within 2 months of my new job. Got all my paper work needed by PCP early on and start meeting my surgeon in December 2013 and had my surgery end of March 2014. And I left my job a week before my surgery and I was able to continue my benefits by paying for my cobra (insurance stays the same and I pay the monthly cost of my insurance). So it varies insurance by insurance.
  13. I would love to be size 6-8. I reached 16 at some point, went down to 14 and now I am size 12. But for my height I should be a 2-4. So I would be happy at 6-8 or 2-4.

    Height

I am 4'11.5 and round it off to 5 feet and my bmi starting before surgery was 41 and now I am down to 35. I was 210 and now 179 and almost 6 weeks out. So I don't think we can compare ourselves with each other but more importantly we have to compare ourselves to what we were before surgery and after surgery to ourselves. We all reach our goals to what works best for us and we all get there at some point. Showing height on the site here, I am ok with it. But as far as comparing myself to others, I don't care for it.
  15. Also my family was not convinced (my parents and brothers) which took me a bit of time to convince. I even took my brother to meet my surgeon and he understood how important this is for me and my health. The day of my surgery my mom and brother were there for me and scared for me but I was not scared at all. There is minimal chances of complications vs not having the surgery at all which will cause kidney failure, heart issues, diabetes, neuropathy, losing eye sight, gangrene, liver issues, not being fertile etc etc...the list can go on and on for health issues when you are over weight. So I personally think it's worth it. No doubt in mind and I know you will make the right decision for yourself.
  16. I was convinced about WLS 100% when my endocrinologist told me about it. I went for a seminar at NYU hospital and knew that this is what I want to do no matter what. I had every health issue people have being over weight. I started my process 3 yrs back and at 35, when I got a good insurance to cover it all, I went ahead and had my RNY 6 weeks ago. As a nurse myself and being able to work without issues, I had to make this happen for myself, for my future, for my health, for my career. I am much much happier and looking forward to more changes for the positive ahead. And I actually promote WLS cause it's worth it. Good luck!
  17. I just followed my surgeons guidelines to avoid any complications. So I would say follow what your doc says. Good luck!

    Starting weaning off

I miss diet sodas but can we really drink this after having WLS? I had gastric bypass and I am almost 6 weeks op. I thought we can't have carbonated drinks due to stretching the pouch.
  19. The reason why surgeons ask us to lose weight before surgery to defat our livers. When we are over weight, our liver becomes fat and it's hard to operate on the patient. So I would def follow the instructions your surgeon has given and if you have not lost weight and they open you up and see they can not operate then they will ask you to come back later. I would not take a chance with that...I lost 10 pounds just being on the liquid diet before my surgery. Best of luck!

    BILL ARRIVED

My surgery cost $105,000 and I only had to pay $300 my deductible. The rest was covered by the insurance and this is for my gastric bypass. Thank God for my insurance or I would have been able to afford it.
  21. Thinmints - first of all I love your name and boy I miss thin mints. Second, it's ok you ate mcnuggets and moving forward I would stick to the diet and have your protein shakes and liquid diet. Drink water and diet drinks and no carbonation. You did not stretch your pouch but to prevent it from having it in the long run follow what your doc says. I had my surgery on march 31 and left the hospital on April 3. So I started my liquid diet the minute I walked out of the hospital and stayed on it until April 13. Liquids were hard to get it down but I made sure I did what the doc said and had my chewable vitamins. Also with hunger it's common not to feel hungry and I still feel that way. I am not hungry much and my taste buds have also changed. Anyways mistakes happen and now stick to what the doc says. Best of luck!

    Slow weight loss

Before surgery I bought a ton of the GNC lean 25 protein shake and I still have so much that I just use that brand. I bought 6 boxes cause it was buy and get second at 50% off. And then I also bought ready made ones that I can take with me to work. So I am still using them. I bought every flavor except banana. Vanilla, cookies and cream, chocolate, strawberry and mixed berry is excellent. I also got orange which is ok but not my favorite. Today I used the orange with fat free Greek vanilla yogurt to make a shake and it was good. Try out the GNC Lean 25 and you can try them in small packets or ready made ones in their fridge to see if you like them and then buy bigger ones. Let me know how it goes.

    Slow weight loss

Am so glad you spoke with your doc. See what they say about the calorie intake. This way I will also know how much should be the intake. But yes the protein amount is correct which my doc also said to stay in that range. I love this forum...we learn so much from each other and support each other and want to see each other succeed.

Talk to me about Fitbit Flex!

Thnks so much for the info. Where in Florida are you? I grew up in Coral Springs near Boca Raton where my parents still reside. So I plan to relocate in the next couple of yrs to be close to them. Good to know that the fitbit is ok in the water. What color do you have? It recommend?

    Slow weight loss

I think it's def the bacon and the fats in it. Has your doc allowed you to have bacon? Maybe try turkey bacon? For now my surgeon has said no red meat or pork for 6 months out. Also 1000 calories is a lot early on. Has you doc said to take in 1000 calories a day? Every surgeon varies. For now my intake is about 500-600 calories a day max. Even that is still a lot for me. I mainly drink a TON of water and also I am 5 weeks out.
