  1. My doctor does fills differently. She has me lay down on the table with a pillow under my back so my back is kind of arched and my belly is sticking up some. Then she gives me a shot of this numbing stuff and then she puts in the needle to find my port and injects the saline. She may move the needle around a little to locate it but I don't feel it because she numbed the whole area. Then she has me drink some Water to make sure it goes down and I'm done. I guess every doc has a way of doing what works for them.

  2. no sense in trying to fix what ain't broke! I too, went at 6 weeks for a fill, assuming that's what we're "supposed" to do. 1.6 CC, too tight. I went back and had it all out. I never never needed a fill for 7 months. If you'r losing 2/week, you don't need a fill. Some people naturally feel the restriction of the band alone, and don't need to be filled. Maybe in a few months, but leave well enough alone.

Yeah I agree...you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to go through all the fills and frustration. As long as you are losing there is no need for a fill. Why does your doctor think it's time for one?

  3. Once you get the right restriction some of those fast food favorites won't go down so easily if at all. I can barely eat fries and bread. I can eat Wendy's nuggets if I chew them well. Five nuggets and I'm satisfied. Ice cream is a problem and a struggle for me. Ice cream is good and it goes down real easy. Eating it in moderation is very hard!

  4. the realize band only holds 9 cc...correct? This whole realize thing is really beginning to frustrate me. I hear only stories about NOT having any restriction with lots of fills. I got my realize band placed on July 30th. and I have lost only 6 lbs. (gain and lose 2-3 lbs along the way) since the day of surgery. I got the surgery because I needed serious HELP! I cannot do this for any lenght of time on my own, and so far, that is what I am doing. I'm reallly discouraged. I'm willing to do my part, but I feel like my band isn't doing IT'S part.

Are there ANY out there who have the realize band that truly feel the band is doing it's part?

Yeah the band is supposed to hold about 9ccs. My doc said that the reason they can put more in is because of the tubing to the port site. If ones tubing is long there can be a lot of Fluid in there.

  5. I understand that there is no legal obligation to accomodate customers for any reason. They own the business and can make just about any rule they want, however, if money is their concern, I think it would be in their best interest in the long run to make their customers happy. If they don't then they run the risk of people not returning or telling their friends etc. It's not an unreasonable request if you ask me. I often share an entree with my daughter so they will lose money on that and that's not a problem for them. I know it is not their problem if someone got banded or if one has a heart problem for that matter, but when they chose not to accomodate their customers then they risk losing business. Obviously everyone has very different opinions on this matter as with many other topics. Oh and for the most part I don't find much on the kid's menu that is appealing either but I still think I should be able to chose if I want.

  6. Yeah two fills in 8 months is not enough for most people. It all depends on the person but it sounds like it's not enough for you. You should keep getting fills until you feel restricted. Where were you banded? Your doc should know that....

I was band it April and just got restriction about 3 weeks ago. I took me four fills and my band is almost full!

  7. I must say I am shocked to read some of your responses. I feel this is a medical issue. I think these establishments should want to accomedate their customer's MEDICAL NEEDS. The reason the kid's meals are cheaper is because the portions are smaller so what is the difference if it's being consumed by an adult or a child? If someone is showing a card from their doctor just like a diabetic would, why not help them? I could see if the person wasn't showing the card to prove they had surgery, but wow! I guess they don't care about their customers returning. If a place wants my business, they should want to see me happy. I personally don't like most leftovers so it is a waste for me to take it home in most cases. It's not like the cook has to do anything special or anything...they just want more money. I don't think it's childish to choose not to eat there anymore. I feel like it's weight disrimination. They wouldn't be like that to any other person with a medical need. Sorry to those who don't agree!

  8. I pretty much have these issues too, although not as bad maybe as your describing. I still get gassy. A little less because I am eating less but still pretty gassy. IBS - still have it! I would have to say that the only difference is I don't have to run to the bathroom right away...it's delayed some. I burp more now then I did before. I was hoping that the band would help my IBS but not so.

  9. UPDATE:

I got my fourth fill on August 20th and I finally have restriction! It took four fills and 9ccs to get me there. I lost 8lbs in two weeks! That is the most I lost since right after surgery. For all those who are struggling...hang in there it does get better with proper restriction. I can't say I'm at my sweet spot but I'm where I need to be for now. I'm hoping I won't need another fill for quit some time because it is expensive for me. $200 each time because I'm self pay. But for the first time since getting my new tool, I feel it's working. I have hope now!
