  1. Funny thing I was sleeved on April 14th as well and just discovered this is side of the forum...funny thing..... Last time I went to the doctor I know that I lost 20 pounds post op... Overall, I'm feeling great and know that I have probably lost a couple of pounds but I'm not sure how much since haven't weighed myself lately....What is your daily food schedule like????

I'm just now getting to where I can tolerate much of anything.

For Breakfast I have a Protein shake

    Water in between

snack - boiled egg or cottage cheese (like 3 bites is all I can do)

    Water

lunch - Protein Shake (usually the rest of what I couldn't finish at breakfast)

    Water

Snack - today I tried edamame and it was delicious.

    Water

    Supper - tuna or talapia

I'm getting maybe 500-600 calories in each day.

I've been really focusing on Protein because I've had a really hard time getting in more than 35g each day. The last 2 days have been better. But then my water intake suffers because I'm so full. I have to make myself drink and/or eat. I have yet to feel hungry.

My check in report is that I am doing really well overall! Learning to eat small bites and chew slower is the hardest part. Never had a bit of nausea, and very little pain overall. I'm able to eat small amounts of soft food and mix it up with at least one 30g Protein Drink a day. So for me it's been runny oatmeal with Protein powder mixed in, Soups, stews, eggs, soft cooked veggies etc...I feel good and was back to work day 7 post op. Work keeps me busy and mind off food, and I find head hunger is much harder on the weekend.I'm loosing slowly and other than rashes from the incision steri strip glue, I've had no big issues.I'm so grateful for the opportunity to finally have a fighting chance to shed the extra pounds for good! Let's hear from the rest of the 14ers

  2. Hi guys I have my VSG scheduled in a couple of weeks with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at OCC in Tijuana and would love to hear more of the experiences with them from any of you that may know anything and or may have had your procedure with him .... Just a part of a bit more last minute research ..... Thank you in advanced

    Hi Leysi,

I was just sleeved by dr Ariel Ortiz on April 15/14

The other person posting here has given a good review of events.

I will add that the care is very personal and thorough and if you have specific concerns/ allergies be sure to bring them up at the time of the nutritionist/cardiology checks. You can ask to speak to the surgeons directly, they work in a team.... Ortiz and Martinez.

All protocols are as good as US and in my opinion the experience of the surgeons is better.

This is a CENTER OF EXCELLENCE designated clinic/surgeon so they have to pass very strict protocol checks to get this designation.

My brother is a Gastroenterologist and he told me to find a surgery center with this seal of approval for best practices/protocols !

DO NOT take the pre op diet lightly..... The day of my Surg they cancelled a person because they had not lost enough weight to be safe.

You will be in very capable experienced hands.

  3. Anyone have any plastic surgery in Mexico? I am not even half way to my goal and wouldn't consider plastic surgery for another year or so but my arms were already very heavy both because I was overweight but also genetically...and now my arms are...gross! I didn't think I would consider plastics after this journey but I would love to wear sleeveless shirts!

    Hi Covatila,

I was just recently sleeved and saw a lady from Louisiana there at same time that had an arm lift and breast augment and lift.... She looked amazing! Arms were so tiny.... And boobs so big!

    Lol!!

Of course I didn't see her before so can't comment, but the end result looked very nice and she was thrilled! Dr Medina is the plastic Surg.

  4. Oopps accidentally pushed send...

I had a great experience at OCC and having the whole team wait on me hand and foot because I was the only patient was great!!

So I'm sipping and walking and have had no pain, just taking the meds prescribed and doing well.

Went out in the sun today to get a little more Vit D

Hope everyone else is doing well

    Rhonda

  5. Hi all,

Back at hotel today ... Ended up having surgery yesterday instead of 14th as planned due to a few emergency 's that took up OR.

Funny thing is I ended up being the only surgery yesterday, as the other patient didn't lose the appropriate amount of weight, so they cancelled her.

Talk about 5 star service. ..... Made me feel like a million bucks all the attention on me :)

The IV was the worst part as I have very crappy veins.... The rest has been awesome!

No pain, nausea, and I am walkin around well.

Just a terribly dry and sore throat from intubation.

Didn't see Ortiz once.... But doc Martinez was absolutely a GEM ! Gave me such confidence in their knowledge and experience!

Also .... Best new yet I FEEL NO HUNGER!

    Hope you managing ok Socalmom...

  7. SoCal mom,

I'm right behind you.... Head out Sunday for Surg on Monday. PLEASE, if your feeling up to it keep me up to date on what's going on with you.

    My text number is 604-618-0661

    Please PM me as well.

I want to try to meet up with you at Marriott.

ALL the very best and good luck with everything!

  8. Green eyed ... Please stay with us, and we can all still check in and support each other ..... This is our little group if 14ers and even though you will have a few things different, recovery will still be tough on all of us and we need to stick together.

Mokamami... Hang in there, I can't imagine a completely unsupportive family. My mom has started doing shakes in the morning...lol! She is already worried if she doesnt try something she will be soooo much bigger than me in a few months.... My kids are very excited as they have seen photos of my "thinner self" and can't wait to see me healthier and happier as I look when smaller.

We are all going through different challenges, but it's nice to know we can reach out to this group.

Getting excited .... Keep up the pre-op and take your Vitamins, we want to be as healthy as possible going into Surg :)

    Rhonda

  9. I would also love to do weekly checkins and keep each other up to date and pool our collective experience to help each other.

Can't believe it's one week today that I will have my life changed forever..... Just one more week of this blasted Pre-op.... But I can see how it prepares your mind for what's to come .

  10. Can't believe it's exactly a week till Surg, pre/op diet is going ok... Constipated already on the Protein Shakes :( I hate them.... I think I am reacting to Splenda ( which I never use, but it's in EVERYTHING bariatric)

Trying to keep fear at bay, but can't help worrying that I'll somehow be that one in a million...

I completely trust the surgical team, but being in healthcare I know that accidents can happen to anyone... I'm praying

I hope I am able to connect with at least one or two to stay in contact with post Surg.

Love the people on this forum that freely give advise and support.

  11. Pre-op diet killed me today!! I was starved all day... Caffeine headache withdrawal on top... :(

But... Staying strong.... Tomorrow's gotta be better!

Thanks for the nice words HappyGirl .... And I can totally relate Kat...

How's the low carb pre-op going green eyed girl?

It's great we have a diverse group getting sleeved all over the place on the same day.... So nervous and excited.... I have been quite emotional ( which isn't like me) at the thought of the post op negatives, but also in a good way also thinking this light finally be the tool that helps me get to a healthy weight!

Hope you all had a great day...

    Rhonda

  12. Hi All of you April Sleevets! I wanted to introduce myself as well.

My name is Rhonda I am 54 and from Canada. I am mom of twin boys 18, and older son 22.

I have also been on and off diets most of my life and done just about everything. I had a lapband placed in

Mexico in 2009 just after Christmas, but it was nothing but grief and never gave me any real restriction, and I ended up

having it mostly unfilled to avoid any continued problems, so my weight never got below 200lbs, since having my children.

I am separated from my second husband although we are still not sure what we are going to do with our marriage. He does support me and may also be my surgery companion,as no one else was able to make it with me.

I have been mostly a single mom as the boys dad left when the twins were 3 months old. I used food for comfort and ate when sad or lonely or frustrated. I know what head hunger is from the band, and I hope that once I have a tool that really works for me,that I can finally deal with the volume of food I eat. I am a starbucks fan, and have been struggling with letting that go.

I am day three of pre- op diet and it is only 3 Protein Shakes a day with veggies ( no dressing or sauces allowed) Today was the worst day so far, as the headache from lack of food and probably still coffee withdrawl was INTENSE! I have been told it does get better. I sure hope so :)

I moved in to help my mom, back to our family home, when my dad was dying two years ago and decided to stay to make her life a little easier. We have remodelled the house to be more like a duplex, but I tend to eat with mom and only use the one kitchen. I am hopeful that she will be supportive, and I know she will try, but I think I learned a lot of my bad habits from her.

I am hoping to loose 100lbs and get back to the weight I was in college and before I had my kids. I remember what it was like to be fairly fit and the strength and energy I had......I want that again.....and to enjoy some of the sports I used to participate in.

I love to read everyones journey and it is so helpful to be on the forum and with this great bunch of ladies. Best of everything to all of you, and may everyone's surgery go smoothly and may we all get to goal :))

  13. Thanks so much Kindle for your great reply.

I am a little nervous about this "tight" sleeve comment ..... I have heard it before and wonder if this is better in the long run as I guess things stretch, but ..... This is permanent and I will hate to be dissappointed in not being able to eat everything eventually, as I quite like things like steak and veggies... Which I hope to be able to eat even in little small size meals and not feel like I can't or need to vomit ..... I hope that makes sense! Thanks:)
