  1. Hello, just a quick update on my hairloss. I was very devestated a few months ago, my hair was falling out by the handfulls, and nothing helped. It started to fall out at 3 months out. Well, as sudden as it started it stopped. I still lose some but it's almost back to normal at this point. It stopped 5 months out. I cut back on washing my hair to once a week and used dry shampoo in between. I also opted for a shorter hairstyle. I changed nothing on my diet and I did not take Biotin either. (well I tried but it did not work so I stopped) So cheer up ladies and gentlemen, there is light at the end of the tunnel

    Hairloss Stopped!

According to my doctor only one thing will stop your hair when it's falling - the floor I know, not funny, but so true. I took Biotin but it did not help, I tried to up my protein, no result, it just will stop. As sudden as it starts it stops.

    Mother is on my tail!

You are very lucky to be able to handle certain food this early out. I was the same, and my doctor was very happy with my progress. He started me on solids on day 10!!! coz I was starving on soft foods. After the solids started my hunger vanished. We are all different and our doctors are all different and a good doctor would tailor a diet to your needs if you are complication free. I do not believe in streching out the soft food stage, yes you will lose faster but you will stall big time once you transit to solids. Do as you feel like, eat what you can handle but verify it with your doctor first.

Any relapses re: smoking after surgery?

I quit 2 months before surgery although my doctor never asked me to quit. I did it so I better my chances at recovery. I started to smoke about 6 weeks out again, stupid stupid thing to do, it was so hard to quit, now I will have to quit second time again... By the way, if a surgeon would open me up and would decide not to do the surgery, close me back in, ahhhha just wait till I wake up and run for your life, I mean come on!!!!!!!!!!! I did not even had to do ANY diet before my surgery, so there should be no reason for the surgeon to do that stupid thing and refuse to do the surgery when I AM ALREADY ON THE OPERATING TABLE!!!! Why is that one surgeon can do the surgery without "liver shrinking" diet, and the other one can not?? I do not get it, but to close somebody back up is cruel and unprofessional.

    cost of my RNY-

Mine was self pay, $5500, yes $5,500 in Europe, surgery and 5 days hospital stay and 1 year of after care included. I am very lucky, it is scary to see the amount of money being charged to my ladies in the States...

    Trouble with bowel movements

What helped me after surgery when I was constipated is prune juice. I hate the taste and I really struggeled to drink it, but it helped. Now I just start my day with fruits, mostly peaches, and so I go regulary. Lots of veggies and some fruits in your diet will make a huge difference. I was lucky and cleared for fruits very early out so I only had to deal with constipation for a few days.
  14. Hi @@Beckyyb93, how are you doing? I hope you are healing well, and things are looking up for you!
  15. I am sorry to hear you have to deal with GERD. I thought gastric bypass is the cure for GERD...that was the reason I chose bypass for... So I used to have GERD before my GB, but since surgery I have no symptomes. I have to take Omeprazole 20mg capsule once a day, it is standard with my surgeon to take PPI after surgery, possibly forever now. I wonder if upping your dose of PPI would help? How much do you take daily? I used to take 10mg and I had stomach ache so my doc switched me to 20mg, no pain since then...sorry I have no experience with sublingual. Would it be very expensive just to buy the sublingual? Sorry I am in the UK and all our meds are covered here, so I don't know much about how it goes in the US. I assume you can get the meds as long as your doctor prescribes it, even if it is not covered by your insurance, but then you have to pay out of pocket. It is really a shame...

is it weird or should I be greatful?

Yep, same here, no issues whatsoever. I have, as @@esskay77 said an iron stomach, I have never ever throw up in my whole entire life, surgery was easy, no pain and I was on solids on day 10 after surgery!!! No issues, no dumping, I can tolerate any food, meet, veggies, sweets, only in small quantities. I think we are just very very lucky. I am thankful every single day for my smooth recovery.

    Only lost 10lbs - WTF

What made the protein shakes bareable to me was mixing in a banana and some ice. It tastes like a nice smoothie. I could not drink it otherwise. Can you have fruits? My doctor cleared me for bananas pretty early (10 days after my surgery I was on well chewed solids, 5 days after surgery I was on pureed!!), so this saved my life. I love my shakes until this day. But I have to watch now as I can eat more, and one smoothie with the banana and milk is over 200 cal, so I gotta go easy...

    Complications

It is normal to be scared, and this is a risk to take, but so as being morbidly obese, and I watched my life style detoriating so fast, it scared me, more than the thought of the surgery. It seems you have it all together, and you have the right mindset. Everything else will work out, you will see. Good for you for doing the diet. I did several food funerals and gained about 20 pounds right before surgery hahahaha - the beauty of being self pay Do not be scared. It is becoming real, and real is good. No more dreaming about a healthy body, its all real now, ahhh I remember when I woke up after my surgery and all I felt is relief that my old life is over Keep us updated please!

    Complications

Hi Maribeth, I chose not to jump through the insurance hoops and go the self paid route. I did not have any co-morbidites at the time of surgery although I was morbidly obese. However, I had great pain in my legs, especially in my knees and my ankles started to act up also. I have a fast paced job (I am a nurse) and it came to a point when I had to realize: I will not be able to work as a nurse any longer unless I lose some weight. I was not going to do another diet, been there done that way too many times. So what am I going to do? Try to find an office job? how? All I know is my profession... I am stalling, I am losing ton of hair, I struggle some days, but trust me, I would do this in a New York minute all over again. My tummy has been reduced so drastically that I am sure even after years, even if my tummy will be streched some, I will never be able to eat the same way I used to before surgery. This gives me great comfort. At this point the only thing I can safely eat and I know it will not bother my stomach is veggies!! How great is that? This is a gift. This is a gift every obese women and men dreams about.

    Smoming

I quit for the surgery, a month before and stayed cig free for 2 months after the surgery. Too bad I started again, but I will quit again at this time for good.

    still hungry :(

But I see you are losing weight very well, so relax! It will get better, you just have to be patient. You are still healing. Same was for me, 'til the 6-7th week I was able to eat a lot, once you start dense protein you will feel the restriction!
  22. Keep up the good work my dear, I am so happy that you are on the path of healing! Focus on getting better, take it slow and enjoy being healthy again!

    Mini gastric bypass

It is pretty popular in Europe, I know a few ppl who had it done with amazing results. Only we call it Omega Loop Bypass.

    Not feeling full

I was the same way, and do not panic, the full feeling will come to you but it takes time. It took a good 6 weeks for me to feel full. I was very surprised be the amount I was able to eat 2-3 weeks after my surgery and I thought great, I am screwed lol but the full feeling came soon, and the restriction is amazing. One thing though, the full feeling that you used to know is gone, no more, forget it. At this time when you are full you will feel rather sick...bloated...nauseous...it's not that happy, warm feeling we used to get before the surgery. I miss that feeling Soon you will be surprised how little food you need. Oh and from pureed, soft food I can still eat a whole lot more, watch it when you switch to dense protein, hmmmm 2-3 bites and you just wanna stop eating FOREVER
